Chapter 22 Imperial Concubine Jin'an (Part 8)

The palace is full of the regent's men, and even Emperor Hui is not at ease with them. Therefore, he entrusted this matter to her. Naturally, in his heart, she is one with him and would never betray him.

Consort He felt quite pleased with herself after thinking about all this. She knew that Emperor Hui was wary of the eunuchs around him, fearing there might be spies. Therefore, after secretly instructing her, he told her to keep the arsenic to herself and pour it into the Regent's wine later. She had been keeping this matter to herself all along, and now she knew that if the Regent did not die, Emperor Hui would probably not dare to let her appear in public and would continue to favor the Imperial Concubine.

She couldn't tolerate this, and now she hoped for the Regent's early death even more than Emperor Hui did.

"Your Majesty, rest assured, I have kept the arsenic in a safe place, and there will be no mishaps," the maid said smugly.

"That's good." Having agreed that she would become Empress in the future, Consort He's tear-streaked face showed a hint of satisfaction.

Shen Wangshu's face darkened.

She stood on one side of the artificial hill, listening to the schemes behind it, filled with shock and anger.

She hadn't expected that Emperor Hui would actually intend to kill Ah Xuan.

A burning rage raged within her, making her blood boil. She wished she could send Consort He and Emperor Hui to the underworld together. This was a feeling she had never experienced when Emperor Hui only wanted to use her.

She had been observing coldly all along, and although she was seeking revenge, she had always acted as she pleased. Never before had she felt such rage, wanting to chop Emperor Hui and Consort He into mincemeat. Only then did she realize how important Ah Xuan was to her. Ignoring the fact that she had no evidence yet, she straightened her back and was about to go out and restrain Consort He.

She had just taken a step forward and was about to shout when she felt a beautiful man's hand land on her shoulder, gripping it and pulling her back.

She staggered and fell into the arms of a strong man behind her. Just as she was about to yell at him, another hand covered her mouth. She looked up and met Ah Xuan's eyes.

He looked down at her quietly, and when he saw the anger on her face, he smiled faintly.

He held her there without moving, completely indifferent to the plot next door to poison him, as if time had stood still at that moment.

He held her soft body, but remained motionless until Consort He and her maid left satisfied. Only then did he release his grip on her, help her up, and step back. He lowered his eyes and remained silent, only lowering his hands under Shen Wangshu's shocked and angry gaze, and said softly, "Don't let her make you unhappy."

With a flick of his long sleeve, a beautiful and exquisite phoenix hairpin fell into his hand.

Under the sunlight, the golden hairpin gleamed, lifelike.

"She wants to harm you." Shen Wangshu's expression changed immediately when she saw that he seemed unconcerned.

"I knew it all along, don't worry." Seeing the worry in her beautiful eyes, Ah Xuan smiled gently and said, "Don't worry about me."

"If you let her run wild, aren't you afraid of things going wrong?" Shen Wangshu felt a slight sense of relief seeing that he seemed to know what was going on, but she still couldn't help asking sarcastically.

“If we let her go, His Majesty will be in deep trouble.” Ah Xuan paused, then sneered at Shen Wangshu. He couldn’t help but take two steps forward and insert the golden hairpin into Shen Wangshu’s cloud-like hair. He saw the phoenix spreading its wings, ready to take flight. The beauty was gorgeous. Although she was furious, even in her anger, the bright light in her eyes made him unable to look away.

He looked at Shen Wangshu, who was staring at him with concern in her eyes, but he simply bowed politely and said, "Your Majesty does not know, but I have known about that arsenic for a long time and have been keeping an eye on the palace. If Your Majesty wants to poison me, I have no choice but to strike first."

Shen Wangshu gestured for him to continue.

“I have both witnesses and physical evidence. Consort He’s maid bought arsenic. If His Majesty dies, the murderer will be found.” Ah Xuan then revealed his fangs.

The Regent has already chosen the scapegoat: Consort He, who plotted against Emperor Hui because she was unwilling to lose favor.

He had originally intended to send Emperor Hui, Consort He, and the Imperial Concubine to their deaths with a cup of poisoned wine, and then raise an honest and obedient royal son to the throne. However, now he couldn't let his beloved know about it.

"It's good that you know what's going on. I'm just afraid she's going to make a move." Shen Wangshu breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that his plan was good.

"I understand. If he passes away, would you be willing to leave the palace?"

Although Ah Xuan cherished her greatly, he always restrained himself, clearly because she was Emperor Hui's Noble Consort and he didn't want her to bear a bad reputation. However, if Emperor Hui died, it would be much easier for Shen Wangshu to leave the palace; by changing her identity, she could naturally become his Regent's Consort. As for why the Regent's Consort resembled the late Emperor's Noble Consort…

It's mostly all about fate.

Seeing that he was thinking of her, Shen Wangshu smiled warmly.

Just as she was about to nod, a palace maid rushed over. Before she could even curtsy, the maid exclaimed, "Your Highness, something terrible has happened! Consort He and Consort Rong are fighting! His Majesty was even slapped by Consort He! And now, now..."

As she finished speaking, she trembled with fear as she recalled the scene she had just witnessed.

I never imagined that Consort He could act like a madwoman, even poisoning His Majesty. I wonder what has become of her now.

Just when everyone was about to witness the spectacle, Shen Wangshu's eyes lit up slightly. He nodded vigorously to Ah Xuan and left excitedly.

The Regent, always respectful of his beloved and never forgetting her, watched her with restrained, proper eyes. When no one was around, he lowered his head and coughed.

He opened his drooping palm and saw a bright red lip print in his beautiful hand.

She had just left in his palm.

Ah Xuan thought of the tingling and trembling sensation when her soft lips touched his palm, and silently stared at the lip print for a long time, looking around.

No one was there; it was silent.

He lowered his head in satisfaction and licked his palm.
