"Let them gossip if they want." Shen Wangshu wasn't afraid of gossip, nor did she want a reputation for being virtuous. If she had to suppress her feelings for that reason, what happiness would she have?
What if you keep holding it in and end up like Emperor Hui, a miserable wretch?
"Is Your Majesty talking to the Regent?" Ah Xiang's heart skipped a beat, but she couldn't control her mouth.
She looked at the woman before her, who was still stunningly beautiful, with eyes as dark as ink, silently watching her. Just as she was about to speak, the imperial concubine simply turned a gold lock on her wrist and said calmly, "Yes."
"But...but you are already His Majesty's Imperial Consort!" Ah Xiang hadn't expected the Imperial Consort to actually have feelings for the Regent. Her heart was set on her mistress, and tears welled in her eyes as she grabbed her hand, sobbing, "If people find out, Your Highness will only face death! And the Regent...the Regent..."
If this were to become known, the Regent, wielding immense power, would naturally be untouchable. However, the Imperial Concubine's reputation would be ruined, and she would likely be unable to remain in the palace. It would be more accurate to say that she would die without a proper burial.
Ah Xiang's eyes were almost filled with tears of blood.
“I like him, and I only like him. If you want to report me, go ahead,” Shen Wangshu said calmly.
"How could I report the Empress!" Ah Xiang cried, stamping her feet.
Shen Wangshu looked at the little palace maid who was crying and hiccuping, a smile appearing in his eyes. He touched her face and sighed, "She's such a child."
Her eyes held a hint of compassion and love. Ah Xiang saw her unwavering resolve and was so moved that she couldn't speak.
“Since Your Highness insists on liking him, this servant naturally has no objections, but… but…” She wiped away her tears, unable to say anything more, but still murmured softly, “Since His Majesty treats Your Highness poorly, Your Highness should find someone you truly love.” While Shen Wangshu was eavesdropping on Consort He’s conversation behind the artificial hill, A Xiang, though telling her to leave, had actually hidden herself as well. She naturally heard Consort He and her servant’s conversation and realized that the illustrious and favored Consort He was merely a shield.
She harbored resentment towards Emperor Hui and Consort He for treating the Imperial Concubine so coldly. Therefore, although she was saddened, she was unwilling to stop the Imperial Concubine from admiring the Regent.
"Would things be better without His Majesty?" she asked, sobbing.
The question was asked in a very soft voice, and Shen Wangshu did not hear it clearly, so he couldn't help but show a puzzled expression.
"It's nothing." Ah Xiang simply wiped away her tears and gave Shen Wangshu a big smile.
"Don't give Ah Xuan a hard time." Seeing that she treated her wholeheartedly, even though she didn't agree with her and even though she was afraid that she would be implicated if things came to light in the future, she still didn't care. So Shen Wangshu smiled and patted her head.
"It's already a blessing that Your Highness doesn't give me a hard time." Ah Xiang seemed to relax as if she had thought of something, let out another burp, and then smiled gently.
Her intuition was naturally very accurate. Therefore, when Ah Xuan was invited to Shen Wangshu's banquet and sat in the Imperial Garden where the breeze was gentle and the birds were singing, she saw Ah Xiang following closely behind Shen Wangshu and even daring to tug at the noble concubine's gorgeous hem with her little paws to peek out. Her face turned very ugly.
"Still breastfeeding? Stay away!" he said coldly, his face dark.
