Chapter 26 Imperial Concubine Jin'an (Part Twelve)

She finally understood that her comfortable life in the palace was all thanks to Emperor Hui's favor, and therefore felt increasingly guilty for her past suspicions of him. She wanted to apologize to Emperor Hui and then reconcile, returning to their former loving relationship. However, Ah Xuan ordered her palace to be closed, and when she tried to send a message to Emperor Hui, he refused to see her, which frightened her, fearing that Emperor Hui had truly distanced himself from her.

Furthermore, there was a Consort Rong who was said to fawn over Emperor Hui every day, which made Consort He extremely worried.

Consort He was overjoyed to see Emperor Hui today; the light in her eyes and her deep affection were truly moving.

"Your Majesty!" she cried out once before tears streamed down her face.

She also told herself that Emperor Hui truly loved her, just like Consort Gui and Consort Rong. So what if he favored her? After all, she was just someone the emperor used to pass the time when he was bored.

Once she becomes empress, she will have plenty of time and rules to deal with these two vile women.

Having already considered these things, Consort He's figure became even more supple and submissive. She knew Emperor Hui's preferences, so every word she spoke made him feel comfortable. However, Emperor Hui was not here to seek comfort in her presence today. Seeing her weakly leaning into his arms, he knew that after so many years of genuine love, Emperor Hui was as familiar with Consort He as Consort He was with him. He knew that Consort He had been celibate for a long time and wanted to have some intimate moments with him.

These days, most arguments in bed are resolved before they even start. As long as he and Consort He have a romantic encounter, all their previous disagreements will be forgotten.

However, Emperor Hui was not in the mood and coldly pushed Consort He away.

Consort He's face stiffened, and she looked at Emperor Hui with some confusion.

He came to my palace, yet he didn't share a room with me. Did he come to stroll in the garden?!

"Your Majesty?" she called out with a hint of fear in her voice.

"I've come today to ask you something." Emperor Hui was filled with resentment over the humiliation Ah Xuan had inflicted on him, and the ruined reputation he would suffer with Consort Ruo leaving the palace.

He couldn't bear to part with the Imperial Concubine, but more importantly, he couldn't let her cuckold him. Now, the only way was to eliminate her threat. Narrowing his eyes, Emperor Hui dismissed the few palace servants remaining. Seeing that no one was around, he coldly asked Consort He, "The arsenic I ordered you to prepare before, are you still keeping it?" His face was grim, clearly indicating that he had murderous intent.

Consort He's heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly nodded, saying, "Your Majesty's orders, I will naturally obey them wholeheartedly..."

"Prepare yourself. When I host a banquet later, have someone put something in his wine," Emperor Hui interrupted her, speaking in a gloomy tone.

"Yes." If the regent died, Emperor Hui would have no more scruples and could call her Empress. Consort He was overjoyed, feeling that Emperor Hui's heart was still with her, and a happy smile appeared on her face.

"Dare to try and steal my Imperial Concubine? I will take his life!" Emperor Hui was satisfied when he heard Consort He's reply, and couldn't help but murmur, "The Imperial Concubine is mine alone!"

His voice was soft, yet it was crystal clear in the empty, silent palace.

The smile on Consort He's face instantly froze!

Consort He would never have imagined that Emperor Hui, who was always tired of Consort Gui and always spoke coldly to her about deposing her, would actually say such a thing today.

He never liked the Imperial Concubine, so why is he reluctant to leave her now that she's about to go?

Consort He looked at the handsome emperor before her with an icy chill. Although she was still right in front of him, he could no longer see her in his eyes.

He was determined to keep the Imperial Concubine by his side; he was no longer the same person who had once gritted his teeth and insisted on her death.

Consort He didn't know what kind of bewitching potion the Imperial Concubine had given Emperor Hui. All she knew was that her man seemed to have been taken away without her even knowing it.

The beautiful concubine, with her refined and elegant features, reddened her eyes and burst into tears. She clutched Emperor Hui's clothes, her watery eyes brimming with unspoken words. The tender affection and gentle love she expressed were exactly what Emperor Hui loved most, but now, the emperor could see nothing.

His mind was filled with thoughts of the imperial concubine who was about to leave him, which filled him with fear. He only had eyes for the despicable regent who had taken away that beautiful woman. He couldn't see the Consort He, whom he deeply cherished, at all. He seemed to have thought of something, and a tender smile appeared at the corner of his eyes.

"The Imperial Concubine is merely arguing with me. It's too early for the Regent to try and take her away!" The Imperial Concubine loves him, she loves him with her own life.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have argued with the Regent like that for her own sake, disregarding her own safety.

"I'm going back." The smile on Emperor Hui's lips faded as he thought about why the Consort's deep affection for him had turned cold.

He was forced back to reality, confronted by the cold, icy gaze of the Imperial Concubine and her resolute turn away. It was all Consort He's doing. Although she denied it, only Emperor Hui and Consort He knew about using the Imperial Concubine as a scapegoat, and Emperor Hui had already convicted her. The thought of her sowing discord before the Imperial Concubine out of sheer, tiresome jealousy, filled Emperor Hui with an indescribable weariness.

"Your Majesty!" Emperor Hui hadn't come for a long time, but his visit was only for Consort He. Consort He's eyes immediately reddened.

She truly loved Emperor Hui!

"I'm not in the mood." Emperor Hui still had feelings for Consort He, but these feelings seemed to be growing increasingly thin. His heart was filled with thoughts of the departing Imperial Consort. Seeing Consort He looking at him with teary eyes, he paused, then, amidst her sobs, gently pried her slender fingers off his arm one by one, and said calmly, "Don't come to me these days. Seeing you makes me unhappy. And seeing you makes the Imperial Consort unhappy too."
