This was outrageous! If she had plotted to murder the Regent, with Emperor Hui's help, she could at least escape punishment. But she had plotted to murder Emperor Hui, and the Regent despised her so much—wasn't she doomed? She was surrounded by enemies on all sides. Not only that, but she also discovered in despair that not a single person dared to speak up for her.
The scene of being coldly watched by everyone and abandoned by all seemed like something she had experienced before.
She seemed to see another woman who had also suffered such a desperate situation.
Consort He could no longer care about anything else. She looked at Ah Xuan with pleading eyes, shaking her head with tears streaming down her face, hoping that he would let her go.
She was a beautiful woman, her face covered in blood and looking somewhat grotesque, yet she remained graceful and charming, which made one feel sorry for her.
Ah Xuan just stared at her coldly, then suddenly let out a low laugh.
What is this desperate situation compared to that?
If Shen Wangshu hadn't met him, if she were still that foolish, deceived imperial concubine, she would have faced a predicament and despair a thousand times more terrifying than this.
She would be abandoned by Emperor Hui, discarded by the emperor she loved, and would watch helplessly as another woman triumphantly walked towards the emperor's side, only to find out that it was all just a lie.
The pampering was fake, the lover was fake, the sincerity was fake; life was just a joke. Ah Xuan didn't want to imagine the pain Shen Wangshu must be going through. He was only grateful to be by her side, to have the power to protect her from harm. Looking at He Pin's pitiful expression, he felt only boredom. Turning to Shen Wangshu, he said in a serious tone, "You can't be soft-hearted."
“I’m not soft-hearted.” Shen Wangshu smiled when she saw that he was worried about her.
Seeing that she really wasn't soft-hearted enough to let Consort He off the hook, Ah Xuan showed some satisfaction and turned around to have the maid tied up.
"Consort He plotted against His Majesty; let His Majesty punish her personally." He said calmly, looking at Consort He who was screaming and refusing to let the guards pull her away.
He narrowed his eyes, glanced at Consort Rong, and smiled as she looked slightly pale.
The moment Consort Rong saw him smile, she finally breathed a sigh of relief and curtsied to him and Shen Wangshu.
Having experienced countless worlds, Shen Wangshu naturally understood what Ah Xuan was planning. However, she had no interest in who was sitting on the throne. She simply watched as Consort He pleaded for mercy in a shrill voice, but Ah Xuan remained unmoved and ordered his men to tie her up, and together they headed towards Emperor Hui's palace.
At this moment, the palace servants and imperial physicians throughout the palace were in complete chaos, resembling a scene from the end of the world, their faces filled with confusion and despair for the future. Although one or two loyal palace servants remained by Emperor Hui's side, Shen Wangshu keenly noticed that most of them were kneeling before Ah Xuan.
The once high and mighty emperor, now on the verge of death, seemed utterly abandoned and alone.
Looking at Emperor Hui, who lay on his back on the bed, spitting out blood with every breath and groaning with every slight movement, she felt no fear or dread, only an overwhelming sense of pleasure.
She enjoyed seeing Emperor Hui reduced to this state, never feeling a shred of pity or remorse.
Perhaps she was a cruel woman at heart, and perhaps it was for this reason that, after countless reincarnations, she only got one beloved man.
But this one is enough.
She held Ah Xuan's large hand with satisfaction, the gentle warmth flowing from his hand to hers, making her feel an unprecedented joy and happiness.
She was no longer alone, fighting scheming and plotting all by herself.
"I've always been by your side." Ah Xuan seemed to sense the intensity of Shen Wangshu's emotions, gripped her hand tightly, and whispered.
"That's right, too." Ah Xiang followed Shen Wangshu into the palace.
She utterly despised those palace servants who abandoned their posts in the face of disaster, finding them utterly disloyal. Feeling both contempt and disheartened, she saw Shen Wangshu staring at Emperor Hui without moving, fearing she was heartbroken. She quickly moved closer to Shen Wangshu, timidly tugging at her sleeve, and looked with pure, adoring eyes at the princess she would remain loyal to for life. She earnestly said, "This servant...this servant will serve the princess for life. Wherever the princess is, this servant will be there too..."
Before she could finish speaking, Ah Xuan, who had been quietly pushing her behind him, was about to grab Shen Wangshu's sleeve when a grinning guard covered her mouth and pulled her aside.
Shen Wangshu looked helplessly at Ah Xuan, who had a righteous and indignant expression.
"Too noisy," Ah Xuan criticized.
Shen Wangshu was both amused and exasperated, truly not understanding why Ah Xuan insisted on competing with a young palace maid. However, it seemed that Ah Xuan had become more lively since marrying him.
“You’re not bad either.” Ah Xuan was actually quite talkative, but Shen Wangshu couldn’t pinch his ear because he was outside, so she could only regretfully keep it in her heart.
Seeing the concubines of the harem enter with fearful faces, none of them daring to approach Emperor Hui, she felt that the young man on the bed was so pitiful that it brought her a sense of pleasure.
He was abandoned by everyone, and even his own concubines were unwilling to have anything to do with him at such a critical time. Clearly, in the hearts of his concubines, the regent was the one who should be flattered more than his safety.
Emperor Hui had clearly thought of this as well.
The concubines who used to do everything in their power to win the emperor's favor and were willing to do anything for his affection have all left him.
He saw only a few trembling imperial physicians and a few palace maids shaking with fear before his bed, nothing else. He struggled to turn his head to look to the side and saw a stunningly beautiful woman, radiant and captivating, in the sunlight streaming in from the palace gate.
