Chapter 36 Emerald Eyes (Part 7)

The sharp gears rubbed against the raw stone, making a rustling sound.

Grandpa Ouyang stood to the side with a smile, his face ruddy and he didn't look like a withered old man at all. He was basking in the flattery of having "a worthy successor" when he saw Gao Wanning secretly tugging at Ouyang Yu, who seemed to be lost in thought. A hint of displeasure appeared in her shrewd old eyes.

She's just a lucky girl, yet she's dissatisfied with him here.

Judging from this, it's clear that Gao Wanning is resentful that the cost of the raw materials she bought was attributed to Ouyang Yu, and she's unhappy about it. So she's pulling in the soft-hearted and easy-going Ouyang Yu to back her up. But can she compare to Ouyang Yu?

Ouyang Yu is his grandson. Although he's a bit gentle, the old man is getting on in years and still controls Ouyang Jewelry. He's actually wary of his ambitious children and grandchildren. There's no such thing as a loving father and filial son in a wealthy family! Don't be fooled by his high regard for his eldest grandson, Ouyang Tang; he knows Ouyang Tang is quite capable and already holds considerable prestige within the group.

As his eldest grandson, he is presumably seen as his successor by everyone.

Perhaps after I pass away, I will hand over Ouyang Jewelry to Ouyang Tang, but not now.

Old Master Ouyang felt that he was not too old to control the company, so promoting Ouyang Yu to rival Ouyang Tang was the most important thing at this time.

However, Ouyang Yu, the manager of Ouyang Jewelry, could no longer get involved. Old Master Ouyang knew that his grandson was weak and naive, and no match for those old foxes who had spent their whole lives in the business world.

So he took a different approach and paved another path for Ouyang Yu.

Previously, he wanted to use Shen's Jewelry to increase Ouyang Yu's leverage, but Shen's Jewelry blocked this path, and Old Master Ouyang was worried. Unexpectedly, there was always a way out.

Gao Wanning's keen eye for jadeite rough impressed Old Master Ouyang.

Ouyang Yu is not suited for management, so he should focus on managing raw jadeite.

Raw materials are the lifeblood of a jewelry company. If Ouyang Yu truly has the ability to select genuinely high-quality jadeite from a vast array of rough stones, then he will be the central figure in the company! Management can be replaced at any time, but those who can select more jadeite and create wealth for the company are few and far between. Since Ouyang Yu is on good terms with Gao Wanning, Gao Wanning will likely help her grandson establish a firm foothold in Ouyang Jewelry.

Ouyang Yu was obedient and well-behaved, and compared to her increasingly reserved but quite opinionated eldest grandson, she relied more on her grandfather's support.

Therefore, at today's birthday banquet, under the watchful eyes of everyone, Old Master Ouyang publicly cut open the stone in order to bring Ouyang Yu to the forefront.

Once Ouyang Yu had won a single piece of rough jade, he would have established his own reputation.

However, Gao Wanning seemed quite unhappy. Her selfishness and lack of consideration for her man made Old Master Ouyang scoff inwardly at her petty and uncouth behavior.

However, Ouyang Yu still needed Gao Wanning's assistance, so the old master Ouyang pretended not to see it and was clasping his hands in front of everyone when he heard the sound of stones being scraped behind him.

The rustling sound made Old Master Ouyang frown.

He was someone who had gambled on jade stones his whole life, someone who wished he could hold onto a jadeite rough stone until he died. Just by listening to the sound of the stone being rubbed behind him, he could tell that no jadeite had been found.

He had high hopes for this rough stone. He had examined it carefully and concluded that the outer skin was very thin, indicating that there should be a large piece of jade inside. However, all he heard was the dry sound of the grinding wheel rubbing against the stone. He suddenly felt a deep unease. He turned his head and saw the once dry, snow-white outer skin falling into powder, but there was not a trace of green on the surface.

It's all white, just stones.

There wasn't even fog.

The crowd, who were waiting to applaud and cheer, fell silent for a moment.

"Cut it a little deeper," Old Master Ouyang frowned and instructed in a low voice.

This time he didn't ask for the stone to be rubbed, but instead asked the stone cutter to make a thin cut to test the quality underneath.

Although he failed once, he did not dwell on his vague unease.

It's perfectly normal to cut into a stone and then cut into jade when cutting rough stones.

"Make it thinner," he continued, fearing he might damage the valuable jade inside.

"What do you think?" Father Shen asked with great interest as he watched the first cut fail to unravel the raw material, and he immediately felt a sense of schadenfreude.

He wasn't particularly shrewd, and seeing that Old Man Ouyang was a bit unhappy, he was secretly pleased. However, he also knew that although the first cut of the rough stone wasn't great, the rest was likely to be of high quality; he was happy to at least have a glimpse of it. He withdrew from the crowd of onlookers and went to Shen Wangshu and her mother's side, having lost all interest in the stone. Since it wasn't his own, even if it was priceless, it was none of his business.

Moreover, knowing that Ouyang Jewelry had actually made a comeback, Shen's father was actually very angry.

“It’s green.” Shen Wangshu said gently.

“These are really good materials…” Father Shen’s voice, tinged with regret, suddenly paused.

"Damn green?" he lowered his voice, his eyes shining.

"Gao Wanning was trying to scam me out of that piece." Unexpectedly, she failed to scam Shen Wangshu, but ended up scamming herself. All the money she worked so hard to earn was used to buy cheap imitations and lost everything. That must feel terrible, right?

Father Shen was already very excited. He clenched his fist tightly, then adopted a very calm and composed demeanor, like a successful businessman. He walked to Ouyang Yu's side, gently patted his shoulder, and smiled slightly at Ouyang Yu.
