But he didn't let her go.
Shen Wangshu felt the icy, stiff skin slowly press against her face.
She and Ah Xuan locked eyes.
Those once calm and warm eyes have become unfamiliar and devoid of emotion.
His grey eyes stared at her as if she were his prey.
Those eyes were filled with a terrifying, lustful desire.
He still wanted to eat her.
"Ah Xuan..." Shen Wangshu struggled a bit, feeling the cold, stiff hand that was suppressing her tighten again, and the zombie on her body roared threateningly.
He seemed to warn the uneasy creature beneath him, but upon seeing the unmistakable pain on Shen Wangshu's face, his eyes remained emotionless, yet his body involuntarily shrank back.
He shifted, lowered his head and gently pressed against Shen Wangshu's body, his lips close to her neck. He looked at her fair and tender skin, and the faint blue veins that were visible beneath. He leaned in to sniff and lick it, wanting to open his mouth and take a bite, but in the end, he only left his sharp teeth beside Shen Wangshu's neck.
Shen Wangshu remained motionless, even though his neck would be bitten off by a zombie in the blink of an eye.
"Eat me, eat me!" Ning's mother lunged forward, unable to push the zombie away, and hurriedly put her hand to the zombie's mouth.
Tears welled in her eyes as she murmured, clutching the zombie's clothes, "Please spare my Rou Rou." She saw Ning's father lunge at her with a kitchen knife, yelling at her to back off, tears streaming down his face for some unknown reason. She whispered, "It's all our fault, we're the ones who killed this child!"
Watching Ah Xuan struggle these past few days, she finally understood why he was injured, and felt incredibly guilty. Back then, the nanny who had turned into a zombie was supposed to tackle her, but Ning's father threw himself in front of her to shield her from the zombie.
Then Ah Xuan appeared and saved Ning's father.
But she never expected that Ah Xuan would be bitten by a zombie because of this.
Ning's father rushed up to Ah Xuan with a kitchen knife in hand, raising his hands high and looking at Ah Xuan with a hint of guilt in his eyes.
He didn't want to hurt his former savior, but compared to his wife and daughter, all he could do was apologize. He pulled Ning's mother behind him and slashed at Ah Xuan with his knife. Then, as if hearing the whoosh of the threatening movement, the zombie turned its head, its inorganic eyes glaring menacingly at Ning's father. It released Shen Wangshu's hand and slapped Ning's father away.
He gripped Shen Wangshu tightly with one hand and roared threateningly at Ning's father and mother.
"Get out!" Shen Wangshu shouted with all his might.
Her voice was shrill and pleading. She was pinned to the ground and looked at her father, who was lying to the side calling her name. She begged, "I'm fine, Mom. Take Dad out of here."
"No!" Ning's mother cried out in anguish.
"Ah Xuan won't hurt me, please go out first." Shen Wangshu looked at Ah Xuan, who clearly wanted to eat people but tried hard to suppress himself and only grabbed her, and her heart was filled with hope.
She looked at Ning's parents with earnest and affirmative eyes and said in a low voice, "You are of no use here. You see, even Dad can't save me." Ning's parents were old and could not possibly be a match for zombies. However, Shen Wangshu felt that Ah Xuan had shown mercy. Otherwise, the way Ning's father had pounced on him just now would have been like offering himself up as food.
Ah Xuan only needs to open his mouth to gain a peaceful father.
"I'll have a good talk with Ah Xuan." What does "have a talk" mean? The zombies can't understand human language at all now.
Ning's father and mother were unwilling, but Shen Wangshu begged them, so they had no choice but to go outside, but did not close the heavy steel door.
Clearly, if anything happened to Shen Wangshu, the elderly couple were not prepared to live on.
Shen Wangshu's eyes were a little moist. She turned her head to look at the zombie still pressing down on her. She saw that he was extremely agitated, and his large hands had grown sharp nails. He glanced at Shen Wangshu, wanting to devour her, but also trying hard to avoid her. He saw Shen Wangshu move, let out a threatening cry, and pressed her down with his palm, but avoided scratching her skin with his sharp nails.
He contorted his face, and Shen Wangshu looked at his still intact but pale and stiff face, and slowly revealed a fierce expression.
"Ah Xuan, it's me, Shu Shu." Shen Wang Shu nestled close to Ah Xuan and said softly.
Her ear was pressed against his chest, where there was no longer any beating; it was eerily still.
Her tears fell onto his bare chest as she murmured, "You've found me."
The zombie, which had been unable to suppress its appetite, bit down on Shen Wangshu in his arms amidst the weeping of Ning's parents. But it stopped again when the glistening tears fell on his heart.
He stiffly and mechanically lowered his head, watching the tear trickle down from his heart and disappear into the clothes he and Shen Wangshu were entangled in.
He no longer felt human pain or warmth, nor did he understand why the food was shedding tears on his body.
He was starving, wanting nothing more than to devour the food that smelled so fresh, yet when the drop of water fell on his heart, it felt as if it were burning him. He flinched, as if scalded, and for some reason, fragmented images kept flashing through his otherwise simple mind. He wasn't interested in these images; they wouldn't fill him up, nor did they possess any fresh vitality. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to eat the food in his arms.
