He seemed to have never seen a woman who focused solely on her husband, disliked flirting with other outstanding men, and disliked being admired. Yet, he understood that a woman with a steadfast heart would likely despise a man who relentlessly pursued her. His gaze flickered, and he took a few steps back, no longer daring to approach Shen Wangshu. Besides, this was not the time for romance.
The zombies of the apocalypse have almost overwhelmed the entire world. Humans are too busy struggling to survive to have time for jealousy and rivalry.
Although he was a little puzzled as to why no zombies had appeared after so long, he didn't pay much attention to it.
"Is it stable?" Ning's father wiped his sweat and asked curiously.
“You’ll see when you get there.” His voice and the noise from earlier drew the attention of the other two survivors, who came out to ask him questions. He seemed to explain patiently, showing even more appreciation for the Ning family’s willingness to take unarmed ordinary people on their journey, but he also became somewhat interested in the special abilities of Nan Lan and the others.
Once at the base, she would likely need to use her superpowers anytime, anywhere, so Nan Lan didn't intend to hide it. She also knew that in the apocalypse, no matter where you went, only the strong would be respected, so she answered very decisively.
When Song Lei learned that there were four people with superpowers in this family, a look of surprise appeared in his eyes.
"Brother Xuan, aren't you a superhuman?" he asked tentatively.
Ah Xuan crushed the zombie's hard skull with one claw, the impact of which was too great for him.
“He’s quite skilled,” Nan Lan said simply.
"A person with this skill level is among the best in the military," Song Lei praised.
He praised Ah Xuan a few times, clearly interested in him, but considering Ah Xuan's fierce nature, he didn't want to provoke him easily. He greeted him and was about to speak when a black figure swiftly rushed out of the ground and pounced on Shen Wangshu. This tall, agile man seemed to have a skin hunger disorder, always wanting to stay close to his wife. Song Lei saw that his hands were covered in black ink, carrying a clean hiking backpack haphazardly stuffed with many crystal cores, and…
"Sweet potato?" he said in surprise.
Inside the large backpack, several plump sweet potatoes, still covered in mud, filled one corner of the backpack.
The dazzling crystal core and the large sweet potato complemented each other, creating an extremely eerie scene.
"Where did this come from?" Shen Wangshu hadn't been able to eat sweet potatoes for a long time.
Song Xi had initially dismissed these things entirely and hadn't collected them at all. She did find some after entering the supermarket, but they were mostly rotten by then. She had no idea there were sweet potatoes in this field, let alone how Ah Xuan had dug them up. However, sweet potatoes were a sustenance for humans, so she thought for a moment and gently asked Ah Xuan, "How many are left? Where are they?" She wanted to dig some sweet potatoes to take to the base.
After all, if the sweet potatoes aren't dug up, they'll just rot in the ground.
Song Lei's gaze suddenly fell on Ah Xuan.
He came out on a mission: not only to clear the land, but also to find more food for the base.
There aren't many people at the base yet, but once the survivors gradually enter, the base will be under a lot of pressure.
Although they received support from the government, it was only a drop in the bucket; they needed to procure more supplies themselves.
Ah Xuan tilted his head and saw that Shen Wangshu seemed very interested in sweet potatoes. He let out a series of muffled roars and pointed to a field further away.
He didn't know what he was holding, but seemingly by instinct, he knew it could be dug out and which parts he should bring back. He looked down at the sweet potato that had piqued Shen Wangshu's interest and poked it with his hard hand. He was still wearing sunglasses, so Song Lei couldn't see his gray eyes, which made him even more attentive to him.
After playing with the sweet potatoes for a while, Ah Xuan took Shen Wangshu's hand and walked ahead with his head held high, leading the way.
He walked through the fields as if he were in a palace, and there were no zombies at all.
Song Lei was unaware that after Ah Xuan upgraded, the lower-level zombies instinctively dared not approach his territory; they simply felt extremely safe.
He turned on his walkie-talkie and summoned the team members who were stationed some distance away to start harvesting sweet potatoes. After walking for a while, a look of surprise appeared on his face. He saw a large sweet potato field hidden behind a thick patch of weeds, and at the same time, there were more than a dozen zombie corpses lying on the edge of the field.
Their heads were all smashed open, as if they had been forcefully ripped apart, and there was turbulence inside. Song Lei subconsciously looked at the hiking backpack that Ah Xuan was carrying, and when he saw the crystal cores inside, his eyes twitched, and he became even more concerned about this group of people.
They are more capable of harvesting crystal cores over large areas, as easily as eating, making them even more important to the base.
If ordinary superhumans and the military are said to be guarding the base, then high-level superhumans are the guardians who determine the life and death of the base.
Especially now that zombies have become even more powerful.
He had already decided in his heart that he would keep Ah Xuan and the others at the Rising Sun Base by any means necessary, even if it meant enjoying special privileges, to protect these powerful individuals. He then saw the powerful figure in his mind make a pouncing motion and start rolling around in the paddy field.
He rolled stiffly a few times, and when he saw Shen Wangshu smiling as she came over to wipe his face, he obediently raised his head and let Shen Wangshu wipe his handsome face clean with a damp handkerchief. Then he forcefully stuck his fingers into the soil, and then easily pulled a sweet potato vine and held it high in front of Shen Wangshu.
