However... perhaps it's because it's just a fox that the Lingxiao Daozun can indulge in such pampering.
He sighed inwardly, then looked down at the girl he had once wanted to pamper, and lowered his eyes.
Compared to the complexities of human nature, monsters are much simpler.
Or... he could go deep into the mountains and forests and catch a fox to keep and pamper?
Xi Wu Daojun's eyes immediately lit up.
He felt he had really come up with a great idea.
Shen Wangshu was taken aback by his sudden excitement and subconsciously won against the fox in the next game.
The fox began to grumble and complain.
It nestled limply in Shen Wangshu's arms, pleading with him as if asking to win again.
Shen Wangshu was captivated by the furry touch. Turning her head, she saw a silly smile on Xi Wu Daojun's handsome face. After frowning for a moment, his cold gaze swept over the two young men and women below.
The aloof and proud young man stretched out his not-so-strong arms and carefully protected the girl who was lying in his arms. After hesitating for a moment, he reached out and patted her back as a comforting gesture.
The girl sobbed uncontrollably, her soft hands gripping the boy's clothes tightly, creating many wrinkles.
"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you from now on." Yue Xizhi's gaze was gentle and careful, and when the girl looked up at him with a tearful smile, his eyes showed even more pity. He was holding the girl and carefully comforting her when he heard a fox's tender cry above his head.
The cry seemed to come from the clouds, barely audible, yet he still keenly looked up at the sky and saw, amidst the rolling, turbulent sea of clouds, a woman of ethereal beauty, her gaze colder than ice and snow, standing atop the clouds. A slight smile played on her lips as she looked with affection at the fluffy ball of fur that was nestled and rolling around in her arms.
Her face was aloof, but the smile on her lips was incredibly warm.
That smile, which seemed to encompass everything, made Yue Xizhi's gaze freeze instantly.
He looked up quietly at the woman who was faintly visible above the clouds, even holding his breath for fear of making a sound and disturbing her.
"Xizhi, what are you looking at?" Ling'er was filled with joy, seemingly delighted to have gained the young man's favor. Seeing him looking up at the horizon, she seemed to be captivated by something and hurriedly looked in that direction as well.
When she saw Shen Wangshu, she curled her lip in disdain, and then when she saw Xiwu Daojun beside her, Ling'er flew into a rage.
She looked at Xi Wu Dao Jun, who was standing shoulder to shoulder with the legendary Nascent Soul cultivator Ling Xiao Dao Zun, who seemed insignificant to everyone else. She saw him turn to look at the fox who had barely managed to sit up from Ling Xiao Dao Zun's arms and impatiently slapped her hand away with a paw. A hint of disdain appeared in her eyes.
She had long known that Daoist Xiwu was a sycophant. Despite being a Nascent Soul stage cultivator himself, he fawned over the more powerful Daoist Lingxiao, and now he was even trying to ingratiate himself with Daoist Lingxiao's spirit beasts, completely lacking the dignity of a great cultivator. Her gaze grew even more disgusted, and then her face suddenly darkened.
"You are shameless!" She seemed to have figured something out, and she was so angry that she almost ground her teeth to powder. She pointed at the handsome young man in the sky and shouted, "I refused to submit to you, and you actually ordered others to insult me so you could laugh at me!"
"Thank goodness I didn't marry you!" she cried out.
Just as the fox was getting impatient and squeaking, eager to poke its belly, Xi Wu Dao Jun was stunned when he heard this earth-shattering curse.
Why is he always the one who gets hurt?
Xihe Daojun looked completely bewildered.
He lowered his head, looked down at the girl with fierce eyes below, and then turned his eyes away.
Perhaps... the girl he liked was just an illusion, a figment of his imagination.
He just smiled and stopped caring.
This person is much more tolerant than Shen Wangshu.
Lingxiao Daozun is very petty; once offended, he will definitely retaliate.
However, Ling'er had clearly not offended herself. Shen Wangshu glared at her senior brother and saw the fox cautiously peeking its little head out of her hand to look down. She couldn't help but stroke its white fur, which was blown crooked by the wind.
The fox let out a soft cry, then its gaze fell downwards, ignoring the young female cultivator who was not as pretty as Shen Wangshu. When its gaze landed on Yue Xizhi's face, it suddenly roared angrily.
It disliked the way Yue Xizhi looked at Shen Wangshu.
The look in his eyes, filled with affection and enthusiasm, made the fox feel a sense of crisis. It turned around and grabbed Shen Wangshu's fingers with both paws, its tail taut with tension.
Shen Wangshu looked at the nervous fox and couldn't help but smile.
Her gaze returned to its indifferent state as she looked down at the young man whose sword aura soared into the sky. In just a few days, the young man's cultivation had advanced further, and he was full of energy, clearly enjoying a good life in the sect.
Shen Wangshu noticed that he was wearing an exquisite high-grade spirit robe, and the longsword in his hand seemed familiar, perhaps a treasure of Yue Xizhi's master, which told her that he was indeed very favored. She glanced at Yue Xizhi, and when she saw his gaze suddenly brighten upon meeting hers, she coldly raised her hand and tossed a jade slip in front of him.
"Daoist Master?!" Yue Xizhi's eyes lit up immediately.
He was exceptionally talented and was a prodigy since childhood, surrounded by admirers. Even in the cultivation world, he remained the center of attention. His only disappointment was the presence of the Lingxiao Daoist above him.
That was the most talented and powerful cultivator in the Guangming Sect, a renowned expert among all sects, the best of them all.
