Qiao Zhen was too exhausted, and after hearing Ye Shangzhou's words, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.
When she woke up, it was already early the next morning. When she opened her eyes, she saw Ye Shangzhou guarding her bedside. He had a stubble beard and dark circles under his eyes, and he looked very tired.
Qiao Zhen moved, perhaps because it was too strenuous, so the movement was a bit loud, waking Ye Shangzhou.
"Why don't you go back and get some sleep?"
She offered her advice.
Ye Shangzhou simply shook his head. He returned half an hour later, and Qiao Zhen was asleep again, breathing steadily. He had gone out to bathe and change, afraid of getting his filth on Qiao Zhen.
The imperial physician made it very clear that Qiao Zhen had just given birth, and if she contracted any disease, her life could easily be in danger. Therefore, Ye Shangzhou was extremely careful about Qiao Zhen's affairs.
He lifted Qiao Zhen's blanket and crawled into bed, carefully reaching out to hug her. Because he was afraid of touching the wound on her stomach, he could only loosely embrace her.
When Qiao Zhen woke up again, the sun was already high in the sky. She nudged Ye Shangzhou beside her.
Ye Shangzhou opened his eyes groggily, and after a few moments of blankness, he came to his senses. "Hmm? Are you hungry?"
"Yes, I haven't eaten anything all night." Qiao Zhen felt more and more aggrieved as she spoke. She was on the verge of death in the delivery room, and when she woke up, there was nothing to eat.
Ye Shangzhou smiled warmly and kissed her affectionately, saying, "I'll go and bring it in for you."
After Qiao Zhen had eaten and drunk her fill, she couldn't wait to ask, "Your Majesty, where is our child? Is it a prince or a princess?"
Ye Shangzhou replied listlessly, "He's a young master, and he's in good health."
Qiao Zhen finally breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at Ye Shangzhou expectantly and tugged at his sleeve, "Could you have the wet nurse bring it over for me to see?"
