The study door remained motionless.
"Alas!" The old man sighed heavily again, and he got up, leaning on his cane.
Just as Qiao Zhen and the old man were about to leave, the study door slowly opened a crack.
Door: Fine, I'll give you face.
As Qiao Zhen turned the corner, she glanced back again, not giving up, and noticed the door was ajar. She quickly tugged at the old man's robe, "Hey, wait a minute, the door's open! Should we still go in?"
The old man turned to look at the study door, and his gaze toward Qiao Zhen instantly became fervent. "Come on, go in and look through the Book of Reincarnation. I'll keep watch outside. Hurry up."
"Okay." Qiao Zhen couldn't help but lower her voice as she sneaked into the study.
The study is in the style of ancient times, with bookshelves and tables and chairs made of sandalwood. Presumably, the furniture is frequently replaced, so everything inside is brand new.
Qiao Zhen rummaged through the desk, even tapping the inkstone and ink sticks; they weren't hollow. She turned and quickly searched the desk drawers, but still found nothing. The Book of Reincarnation sounded very important, especially since the protagonist was the King of Hell; it must be even more crucial. Where would a normal person keep something so important?
After calligraphy and painting.
In ancient dramas, whether it's palace intrigue or martial arts stories, important items are often hidden behind paintings and calligraphy hanging on the walls. But here, there are no paintings or calligraphy on the walls, only a gleaming silver sword hanging there.
Qiao Zhen carefully approached and picked up the silver sword, casually placing it against the corner of the wall.
Soul-Slaying Sword: What the hell is this silver sword?!
Qiao Zhen tapped the wall with her finger, making a crisp sound. Her eyes lit up; the wall was hollow. For some reason, her search went smoothly, and she didn't encounter any hidden traps or mechanisms.
Hidden Arrow: The door already recognizes you, what else can we do?! Of course, we just ignore it!
"I got it." Qiao Zhen held the booklet in her hand and then called out softly to the old man. "I got it, let's leave here first."
"Okay." The old man looked around, and after Qiao Zhen came out, he closed the door.
The two returned to the human world like thieves, and then swaggered back to their rented apartment.
The old man took the Book of Reincarnation, opened it, and found it completely blank. "What a wasted trip."
Qiao Zhen took the booklet and opened it. "Where is it?" She traced her finger on the page. "The King of Hell's original surname was Zhao, and his given name was Zhao. Isn't Cheng Zhao the same as Zhao?"
She looked at the words in the booklet and continued reading, "I have been a member of the Cheng family in the human realm for about thirty-five years now."
The old man looked at the blank Book of Reincarnation. This book was discriminating against others!
Qiao Zhen belatedly closed the booklet, "So, I'm the reincarnation of the King of Hell?"
The old man closed his eyes and nodded.
Qiao Zhen slammed the booklet on the table with a "bang." "What a Cheng Zhao! What a Di Zhao! I think he was having an affair, which is why he killed me!" She was lost in her own world, lost in thought. "According to the usual plot, he should still have a white moonlight, and then he needs me to revive his white moonlight, and in the end their happiness is built on me. Why should I?!"
In fact, Qiao Zhen's guess was pretty accurate.
But something went wrong, and everything went off track.
Qiao Zhen spent half a month secretly observing Cheng Zhao. She accidentally discovered that Cheng Zhao woke up in a fright one night, muttering "Lanlan" in his sleep. She almost couldn't catch her breath. But she was a thoughtful young woman. When she was confused, she was more foolish than a fool, but when she was calm, she was more ruthless than the heavens.
Cheng Zhao is indeed the mission target, but that doesn't necessarily mean he only likes her. So the question is, what was she angry about just now? Was she angry that Cheng Zhao liked someone else? But she had no right to be angry; their relationship was based on the mission and wasn't explicitly stated. Even worse, the mission target should probably be resentful.
Qiao was a typical spinster who would bravely pursue her feelings once she realized them, but this time she hesitated. She had a vague idea of the identity of her target. If she could win him over, all would be well. But if she angered him, she wouldn't even know how she died. She valued her life more than her feelings.
The old man has been staying by Qiao Zhen's side recently. Alas, it's not easy for the Queen of Hell. She loves the King of Hell so much that she followed him to the human world to undergo tribulation, only to find that the King of Hell has fallen in love with someone else. No normal woman could bear that.
Qiao Zhen returned to her apartment and locked herself in her room for several days.
The old man stood guard at the door, fearing that she might do something irreversible in a moment of impulsiveness.
She wasn't that stupid. After a few days of deep thought, Qiao Zhen returned to her usual carefree self. She opened the door and ordered a table full of takeout, wanting to treat herself properly.
"Don't worry, I'm not the kind of person who would die for love." Qiao Zhen raised an eyebrow, assuring him firmly. "That would be too foolish."
Old man: I wonder who bravely ventured into the cycle of reincarnation for love? Regaining their memories is embarrassing!
But the old man did not refute it.
After eating and drinking her fill, Qiao Zhen patted her bulging belly and said, "Come on, let's go check what's needed to revive someone, and we'll help him revive."
The old man thought for a moment and nodded, “A Buddhist master needs to take a drop of his heart’s blood under the moonlight on the fifteenth of the ninth lunar month and drip it onto the relic. Then, he needs to use ghosts born in the yin year, yin month, yin day, and yin hour to refine it into a Reincarnation Pill.”
"Oh," she replied lazily. No wonder Cheng Zhao wanted to wait three months; everything was ready except for the final push. She could just wait to die. "We'll go on a trip tomorrow and I'll take you to see the foreign devils."
The next day, Qiao Zhen took the old man to the United States. They saw all the sights in the United States and changed attractions every three days. Cheng Zhao did not bother her again.
