Qiao Zhen put her hand on her mother's arm and comforted her, "Mom, we're here for you."
Mrs. Qiao shook her head and smiled faintly, "Zhenzhen is very kind. I have raised you very well."
"Um!"
At midnight, Qiao Zhen took milk and bread to An Zhao's bedroom, only to find that An Zhao was not there. This startled her. She put the food on the cabinet and turned around to search for An Zhao in each room.
Finally, she found An Zhao curled up in a locker on the third floor. She sighed, bent down, and picked him up. Perhaps because she had disturbed his sleeping position, he snuggled even closer into Qiao Zhen's arms.

"I've come to bring the young master a midnight snack."
"What is it?" His eyes were vacant, and his voice was very steady, so steady that there was no fluctuation in his tone. His whole demeanor was somewhat desolate.
Qiao Zhen looked at what she was holding. "It's bread and milk."
"Put it aside," An Zhao instructed simply, then shrank further under the thin blanket.
Qiao Zhen placed the things on the bedside table. "Young Master, please be careful when you take them."
Only two breaths mingled in the bedroom. Qiao Zhen knew he didn't want to respond, so she tiptoed away, leaving the door a crack so she could observe his condition.
