An's father was speechless and didn't want to talk to him anymore. "You have to protect yourself. You can't let her take whatever she wants from you."
An Zhao simply shook his head slightly upon hearing this, offering no reply. Only by giving himself away could he earn her genuine affection. He wanted her love, not pity.
Qiao Zhen quickly got out of the car with two strings of bells. She got into the car, squeezed An Zhao's hand and said coquettishly, "I haven't even touched a single word of my homework yet."
An Zhao nodded and answered her seriously, "Let's go back and do our homework."
Father An was about to chuckle again. An Zhao, that little rascal, hadn't touched his homework in over a decade. He shook his head, thinking, "The power of love is truly amazing." Yet, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. His son wasn't doing his homework because of him, his old father, but because of that little girl, Qiao Zhen.
Qiao Zhen had no intention of understanding or sympathizing with An Zhao's father; in her eyes, he had only himself to blame. Regardless of what had happened back then, An Zhao was still an innocent and naive child; why should she hold a grudge against him?
The tribulation should be easy to complete; just pamper An Zhao and don't let him lose his temper.
As for the system mission to find out the truth about An Zhao's kidnapping, there has been no progress at all.
Moreover, she searched her memory and found some very interesting recollections, or more accurately, fragments.
Qiao Zhen used the money to exchange for ten gold bars. She used the money to buy a Caucasian Shepherd that looked fierce but didn't have much time left. Of course, Xiao Ling was the one who handled all the complicated things. She only needed to bring the dog back, wait for it to die naturally, and then let Chu Chu crawl into it.
She also had Xiao Ling operate high-tech equipment to help her anonymously hire a private investigator to investigate An Zeyao and An Zhao. All she could do now was wait.
An Zhao became increasingly dependent on Qiao Zhen, and his possessiveness gradually became apparent.
At first, he only let her wear bells on her ankles so that he would know where she went. Later, he was not satisfied with the sound of the bells and wanted Qiao Zhen to hold his hand wherever she went. Later still, Qiao Zhen could no longer be more than two arm spans long, and the two of them had to hold hands anytime and anywhere.
Qiao Zhen was happy to spoil him, as a way to atone for a future mission. "Zhao Zhao, be good. You'll have to take a bath by yourself later, okay? I have a gift for you tomorrow."
The Caucasian Shepherd has passed away, and Chuchu has devoted herself to the Caucasian Shepherd.
An Zhao obediently agreed, looking forward to it all night, yet wanting to remain reserved, and in the end, the conflict between the two turned into shyness.
The next evening after school, Qiao Zhen took An Zhao to the pet store. She had been leaving her Caucasian Shepherd at the pet store. She took the dog out of its cage and said, "Zhao Zhao, come and pet it."
Chu Chu held its large head high, its bright green eyes gleaming with a chilling light. [Am I cool?]
Qiao Zhen: ...[If you dare ignore me again, I'll smash your skull open and see how cool you'll be then! Quick, listen to my instructions and sit down!]
Chuchu lay on the ground, looking cute and weak, whimpering.
An Zhao reached out her hand, groping forward inch by inch, but all she touched was empty air.
Qiao Zhen placed her hand over An Zhao's hand, guiding his hand to touch Chu Chu's back, and said softly, "Look, this is a very obedient dog. Let's take it home and feed it. In the future, when I'm not around, it can protect you in my place, okay?"
An Zhao nodded. "Mm."
The employees tried to persuade her, but Qiao Zhen refused.
Fortunately, this pet store is large, with big iron cages and good safety measures.
Caucasian Shepherds are incredibly protective of their owners, but they're definitely not as capable as Chu Chu. Chu Chu is highly intelligent, and having accompanied Qiao Zhen on so many missions, she's quite shrewd.
Qiao Zhen and An Zhao took Chu Chu back home. Qiao's mother didn't recognize what kind of dog it was, and Chu Chu looked harmless, so Qiao's mother just assumed that the two of them had gone out and bought a pet dog, and kept saying how good it was.
There's also progress at the detective agency.
An Zhao's mother, Yao Qingxiao, died during childbirth. Therefore, An Zhao's father always blamed An Zhao for Yao Qingxiao's death, harboring both love and hate for her. Torn between these emotions, he ultimately ignored An Zhao. An Zhao was financially secure, yet received no care or concern from her father whatsoever.
After An Zhao was abducted, An's father replaced all the servants in the An family. Those servants were either deaf or blind, or they suffered one accident after another.
Qiao Zhen simply did not believe that there was absolutely no connection between them.
Qiao Zhen said gravely, "[Let them continue investigating until they cross An Zeyao's bottom line.]"
Chu Chu was puzzled: "Why did you test An Zhao's father's bottom line?"
Xiao Ling was even more direct than Chu Chu: "You suspect that An Zeya intentionally let things go back then?"
Qiao Zhen didn't hide anything. "Yes, I suspect that after An Zeyao harbored resentment towards An Zhao, he intentionally allowed her to be taken away by someone else. But I want to know who that person or group was that took An Zhao away."
Xiao Ling: [Okay, I'll discuss this with the detective agency.]
Chu Chu looked completely bewildered. [What are you guys talking about? I don't understand! QAQ]
Qiao Zhen helplessly bent down and patted Chu Chu's big head. "Good girl, just eat and drink your fill, protect An Zhao, and remember your duty, okay?"
Chu Chu nodded her fluffy head.
After An Zhao finished showering, she called out to Qiao Zhen, who immediately composed herself and replied, "Coming!"
She responded and then ran upstairs on her short legs to help An Zhao get dressed. An Zhao couldn't see, so he could only feel the tags and sleeves on the clothes to tell the front from the back. But ever since Qiao Zhen started doting on him, this matter had officially fallen under Qiao Zhen's purview.
