Chapter 75 Sorrow Flows Backwards into the Sea (16)

After Qiao Zhen and Chu Zhao boarded the long-distance bus, they chatted idly. For example, they said that if Chu Zhao's eyes were a little narrower, he would be very charming, or if Chu Zhao's facial features were a little softer, then his women's attire could probably be described as gentle and graceful.

Of course, Qiao Zhen did all the talking the whole way, while Chu Zhao listened with a face as black as the bottom of a pot.

It's impossible to take a long-distance bus all the way from K City to Kyoto, so Qiao Zhen and Yuan Zhao had to transfer stations along the way. Qiao Zhen figured those people's reach shouldn't be that long, so she took Chu Zhao to stay at a hotel. Luckily, Qiao Zhen had her ID card, otherwise they would have had to sleep on the streets.

Qiao Zhen used her ID card to book two rooms, both for one night. The first thing she did when she got back to her room was to charge her phone. She needed to ask her parents for help, because sometimes you have to bow your head.

"Hello, Dad."

"Um?"

"This is a long story, so I'll keep it short. Chu Zhao and I are in Y City, and we've run into some trouble—well, not just a little, but a very serious one. It's a serious matter, and I hope you can inform Uncle Chu and Aunt Chu so they can make some preparations."

"Don't be afraid." Wen's father's steady voice came from the other end of the phone. He instructed, "Don't go anywhere now. Wait for Dad to come find you."

Before Qiao Zhen could reply, she noticed her phone screen was black. She pressed the power button, only to find it was out of battery. With no other option, she had to charge it.

She then went to find Chu Zhao and took him to the department store to buy some clothes to change into, since she couldn't let Chu Zhao appear in women's clothing.

But somehow they slipped up, and when they returned with their bags, they saw Gu Chen leaning against Qiao Zhen's door. Gu Chen seemed to be idly playing with his phone, but Qiao Zhen could sense the playfulness in his smile—a confident air of someone who had everything under control.

Qiao Zhen and Chu Zhao saw Gu Chen.

Gu Chen naturally heard the footsteps as well. He looked up at Qiao Zhen and Chu Zhao, and in an instant, he revealed his nasty attitude. "Long time no see, Wen Zhen."

Qiao Zhen stepped forward, standing protectively before Chu Zhao. "I don't really want to see you. If I'm not mistaken, you're the one who instigated An Erle and those aristocratic scions, aren't you?"

"Smart." Gu Chen's eyes lit up as he looked at Qiao Zhen. He put on a cute and innocent expression, pouting, "What's so great about Chu Zhao? Why are you so concerned about him?"

Qiao Zhen wasn't afraid. She stepped forward in front of Gu Chen, her gaze shifting between him and Chu Zhao. Then, she said thoughtfully, "He doesn't seem to have anything good about him either. He used to have those sky-high red hairs, and now he's always holding me back, like a burden. You two are the same type of guy, so I think choosing you is much better than choosing him. What do you think, Gu Chen?"

Gu Chen grinned. "Of course, choosing me is much better than choosing him."

Qiao Zhen instantly suppressed her smile. She looked at Chu Zhao, who was looking down at his feet, then walked to his side and took his arm. "But it's different."

Gu Chen was somewhat surprised, and the smile on his lips froze for a moment. "How is it different?" He softened his voice and said seductively, "I'm more normal than Chu Zhao, and I'll be more considerate of you. At least I won't hold you back. Besides, Chu Zhao and I have the same type of face. If there's any difference, my family background is better than his, my personality is gentler, and my appearance is more refined. Isn't that better?"

Qiao Zhen looked at Gu Chen as if he were an idiot, "What does a grown man need to be refined for? Even if you two have many similarities, or even if you are much better than him, in my heart, you are not as good as him, because of your soul."

Her explanation was correct. Chu Zhao was the soul of the mission target, while Gu Chen seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, so there was no comparison between the two.

Chu Zhao, however, held Qiao Zhen's hand tightly, his grip tightening as if he wanted to brand it into her flesh. He stared intently at Qiao Zhen, completely disregarding Gu Chen.

Gu Chen found it unbelievable, because he had used this method to drive away many friends who belonged to others.

Qiao Zhen pressed on, "On the contrary, it's you who are more despicable, for holding a grudge against Chu Zhao over some trivial matter and resorting to such despicable means. You see, this is the difference in souls. In the same harmless body, Chu Zhao's soul may be vile, while your soul is rotten and stinking. No matter how much you try to cover it up, it's useless."

"If you don't want people to know, then don't do it. You understood this principle when you were in elementary school, right? Since you understand it, why did you still do this? Was it to make more people remember you? No, I don't think so. You could have achieved something by relying on your family background. You could have built a successful young persona with the savings of the Gu family's ancestors."

"But it seems you want to be remembered in history or be infamous for eternity, right? Let me guess, Chu Zhao is probably one of your targets. Your mentality is very much like the last desperate thought of a terminally ill patient."

"Besides, when you chased me up the mountain last time, your physical condition wasn't as good as mine, especially your pale face after running for a short while. It's hard for me not to overthink it."

Gu Chen twirled his phone around and then put it in his pocket. He was wearing a casual white shirt and black overalls, which, to be honest, really suited Qiao Zhen's taste. He chuckled and clapped his hands, mocking, "Wen, you have quite the imagination. I'm just a little weak, yet you've come up with such a complicated plot. I really admire you."

Even though Qiao Zhen had just revealed more than a few pieces of information, Gu Chen only grasped the matter of his body. He was still too young. How could he be as cunning as Qiao Zhen, an old witch who had lived for tens of thousands of years?

Qiao Zhen put her hands behind her back and held Chu Zhao's hands, then looked at Gu Chen with a slight smile, her face completely unconcerned. "Whether it's a plot or reality, only Gu Chen knows the truth. Also, Chu Zhao and I rarely get to go out together, so please don't bother us."

After she finished speaking, she grabbed Chu Zhao, completely ignoring Gu Chen's ugly expression, and the two of them went into Qiao Zhen's room.

Gu Chen's eyes darkened as he looked at Qiao Zhen, revealing a strong sense of determination. However, Qingzhi was still too young to completely hide his true feelings, so he was destined to fail.

Qiao Zhen was worried that if Gu Chen found this place, the people from Lan Shou Mountain would probably find it too. For Chu Zhao's safety, the two of them had to stay in the same room. Moreover, Qiao Zhen would call out to Chu Zhao from time to time. If Chu Zhao did not respond, she would search the whole room for him.

Perhaps Qiao Zhen didn't know that when she looked for Chu Zhao, it was like a sensitive wife strictly checking up on her husband, and she even had the kind of determination that wouldn't give up until she found the other woman.

Chu Zhao was pleased with this, after all, Qiao Zhen was the only one who trusted him completely, and he also had some feelings for her, so he wouldn't let her go easily no matter what.

"Chu Zhao."

Where are the people?

"So charming and beautiful, Zhao!!!"

Qiao Zhen, shuffling through her slippers, pushed open the bathroom door, only to find Chu Zhaoguang shirtless. "Why aren't you answering me?"

Chu Zhao said, feigning innocence and helplessness, "I was just adjusting the water temperature, and the sound of the water drowned out your voice."
