Chapter Seventy-Nine: Sorrow Flows Backwards into the Sea (20)

Qiao Zhen saw the elevator doors open and was about to go in when Chu Zhao, who had caught up with her from behind, pulled her out.

"Why are you pulling me?" She looked at Chu Zhao and sang at a rapid pace, "I don't know~ I don't understand~ I don't want to~ Anyway, I just don't want to listen."

Chu Zhao's eyes, which were once as bright as stars, were now pitch black. He questioned, "Why are you getting so close to Gu Chen?"

Qiao Zhen tried to break free from his grasp, but Chu Zhao didn't loosen his grip even slightly. She looked calmly into Chu Zhao's eyes and coldly asked, "What business is it of yours who I get close to?"

[Darkening 7 - Darkening 7.2 - Darkening 7.5... Darkening 8.9 - Darkening 9.5]

Qiao Zhen's heart skipped a beat. She was increasingly confused about the criteria by which Zhao's "darkening" level rose and fell. "Is there anything else? If not, please let go."

Rather than saying she was increasingly unable to understand Zhao, it would be more accurate to say that she never even wanted to understand him.

Chu Zhao looked down at the road. "I didn't want to... I didn't want to either." His voice was very soft, as if a gust of wind could blow it away.

Qiao Zhen looked at Chu Zhao, completely bewildered and unable to understand what he was saying. So she didn't take it to heart. This time, she easily broke free from Chu Zhao's grasp. The elevator happened to be on this floor, so she stepped inside without hesitation.

She peeked at Chu Zhao through the gap in the elevator doors and saw that the marks of his restraint on his face were getting heavier and heavier, until his forehead was taut and the veins were bulging.

Qiao Zhen ultimately left unmoved. To her, it was just a mission, and there was no need to sacrifice herself. At least the Master of Fate could superficially erase the memories of the mission targets, but as a mission participant, she was likely to sacrifice her own feelings.

The Fate Master has a cruel rule: once a member develops genuine feelings during a mission, they can no longer perform missions for the Fate Master. Qiao Zhen considers herself very rational, and as long as her principles are not violated, she doesn't care.

Unfortunately, Chu Zhao... crossed her line and even tried to go further, so she naturally felt resistant towards him.

A few more days passed peacefully. Qiao Zhen's cold was almost completely cured, and she began to visit Gu Chen frequently, attempting to subtly influence Gu Chen's dislike for Chu Zhao, or better yet, to eliminate it altogether.

As she met with Gu Chen several times throughout the day, Chu Zhao, who was secretly observing, felt as if something was wrong with her.

Unable to control his jealousy, he bought a bottle of liquid sevoflurane on the black market in Kyoto. He put the bottle directly into the backpack behind him and also put a handkerchief in his pocket. Only after making all the preparations did he take advantage of the holiday to go to the Qiao family.

Qiao Zhen, holding a bag of potato chips, crunched on them as she walked down the stairs. She mumbled, "What are you doing here?"

Chu Zhao's arms hung tightly at his sides, and his hands gradually clenched into fists. He took a deep breath, as if gathering his courage, and said, "I'm here to tell you what happened to me in the past."

Qiao Zhen lazily walked down the sofa and then lay down on it. She turned on the LCD TV and said casually, "Gu Chen has already told me the general situation. I only asked because I'm curious. There's no need to know so much."

Chu Zhao stood beside Qiao Zhen as if pleading. He silently knelt on one knee, then looked up at Qiao Zhen with a vulnerable expression. The 45-degree angle at which he tilted his head back gave him a rather melancholic CEO vibe. "Please."

Qiao Zhen wasn't truly unwilling to know what had happened between Chu Zhao and Gu Chen; her nonchalant demeanor earlier was merely an act. Nevertheless, she continued with a troubled expression, "Alright, then tell me."

"Can we not go here? Let's go to my greenhouse. I like it there; it makes me feel relaxed." Chu Zhao took Qiao Zhen's hand and then pressed his fair and smooth cheek against the back of her hand, gently rubbing it.

Qiao Zhen's eccentric auntie side suddenly resurfaced; she simply couldn't bear to see such a cute boy like Chu Zhao with such a melancholy expression. "Okay! But you have to wait for me to change first."

"Mmm!" Chu Zhao's lips instantly curled up, revealing a dazzling smile.

Qiao Zhen couldn't resist the urge to touch him. After standing up, she reached out and pinched Chu Zhao's cheek. The smooth and tender feeling of her fingers made her reluctant to let go. Then she went upstairs to change her clothes.

She wore a white shirt and an orange knitted sweater, the belt perfectly accentuating her slim waist, and skinny jeans showcasing her slender, straight legs, paired with black leather shoes. Moreover, she was without makeup, which made her appear even more youthful and radiant.

Let's go.

Chu Zhao stared blankly at Qiao Zhen, as if he had lost his soul. When he came to his senses, his face turned slightly red. "Zhenzhen, come with me. I didn't drive this time. Let's take a taxi. There's no parking there."

Qiao Zhen left empty-handed with Chu Zhao this time, but she never expected that she, as a witch, would be caught off guard and suffer a mishap!

Chu Zhao tricked Qiao Zhen into his so-called "flower room," then poured the pre-prepared heptafluoroane liquid into a handkerchief. He leaned in and tentatively hugged Qiao Zhen, saying, "Zhenzhen, when I was eleven or twelve, I didn't get along with Gu Chen. He always felt that I wasn't worthy of having the same type of face as him..."

Qiao Zhen listened attentively, but there was obvious hurt and vulnerability in Chu Zhao's words, so Qiao Zhen did not push him away. Even if she did, she would wait until he told her everything.
