Chapter Sixty-Three: Sorrow Flows Backwards into the Sea (4)

The driver said jokingly, "We don't accept bribes. Why would anyone bribe us drivers?"

Qiao Zhen stammered, "What I mean is, I think I lost my wallet. Could I use something like earrings or a necklace as a substitute?"

Qiao Zhen, who was standing by the roadside, started crying again. She had been kicked out of the car by the driver!

Qiao Zhen had no choice but to ask for directions as she walked to the veterinary hospital. The original owner of this body was an only child from a single-parent family. Her father was away from home for 360 out of 365 days a year. The original owner was also a self-reliant person, so she was now truly lonely, desolate, and miserable.

It's such a painful reality to be without money.

"Zhenzhen?" a man in a suit called out from inside the car.

Qiao Zhen turned around, and there stood Chu Zhao's father! "Uncle, Uncle, do you have time?"

Mr. Chu said very magnanimously, "Get in the car. Isn't it evening self-study time? What are you doing outside?"

Qiao Zhen was on the verge of tears. "My little squirrel is injured. I skipped class to take it to the vet. My wallet fell when I was climbing over the wall. I was kicked out of a taxi. I'm so miserable."

Looking at Qiao Zhen's bitter expression in the rearview mirror, Chu's father couldn't help but chuckle. "Why didn't you have Chu Zhao come out with you?"

Qiao Zhen grumbled and said with a hint of disdain, "He's too conspicuous; he's not suitable for skipping class."

Chu's father turned the car around, took out a stack of red bills from his wallet and handed them to Qiao Zhen, "Here, remember to come home early, wait for me."

Qiao Zhen instantly grinned like a silly deer, "Thank you, Uncle!"

Chu's father took out a pen and wrote a string of numbers on a piece of paper. "This is the driver's number for picking up and dropping off Chu Zhao. Just call him from any shop later. It's too dangerous for a girl to take a taxi at night."

"Thank you, Uncle. Bye-bye, Uncle!" Qiao Zhen got out of the car, closed the door, and then jogged towards the veterinary hospital.
