Chapter 16 Cinderella's Comeback (Sixteen)

As they walked towards the gate, they could see the Qin family's carriage waiting by the street in the distance. Qin Rong stood beside the carriage and nodded slightly to Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia.

Qin Rong wore a white dress, adorned with small white tulle flowers at the waist, and ruffles around the collar and cuffs. A crystal pendant adorned her forehead, and her waist-length hair swayed gently in the wind. Her face was lightly made up, which made her bright eyes and red lips stand out even more, making anyone who saw her unable to resist taking a second look.

Xiang Xia wore a sky-blue double-layered fishtail long dress, a light yellow long-sleeved short jacket, and her hair was styled in a trendy girl's bun with a pink flower hairpin in her hair. The jade earrings swayed gently as she walked, and a small jade pendant with flowers and birds hung from her waist. Overall, she looked neither ostentatious nor easily overlooked.

Xiang Wan spent the entire night before leaving, still unable to figure out what Qin Rong was planning to do by taking them out. When she woke up in the morning, she had some dark circles under her eyes, which Xiao Zhu had to persuade her to apply white foundation to cover them up. After entering the Qin residence, the Queen Mother provided her with some clothes, but Xiang Wan insisted on something lightweight. So, before leaving, she wore a light yellow, leg-length skirt and dark-colored tight-fitting trousers. Her hair was styled in a high ponytail with a hairpin at the base, making her look neat and tidy.

After the three boarded the carriage, Xiang Wan slumped to one side and closed her eyes, feeling sleepy. Qin Rong picked up a book and started reading, while Xiang Xia looked out through the small window of the carriage.

The three women's attire was so different that Xiang Wan didn't think much of it. It wasn't until she arrived at the Qin residence that Xiang Wan realized the local people's clothing was quite unusual. Commoners generally wore whatever was convenient and durable; sometimes, vegetable farmers delivering produce to the Qin residence would be seen wearing ancient peasant clothes, while the young girls accompanying them would wear trousers and knee-length long-sleeved shirts. When the Queen Mother prepared clothes for Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia, Xiang Wan was somewhat surprised that such Western-style clothing existed in this era, while Xiang Xia was delighted, saying that clothes usually reserved for people of some status were surprisingly available at the Qin residence. Therefore, Xiang Wan was no longer so surprised by this incongruous attire.

Since the Qin family's study already has glass windows, it's not surprising that the carriage would also have one.

The people of this country have a fondness for glassware and textile ornaments, but due to their high prices, only wealthy families can afford them. At first, Xiang Wan was puzzled, as the original owner's memories included scenes of wearing wedding dresses, which she hadn't seen since transmigrating. Furthermore, she hadn't paid attention to many details at the time. Now, thinking back, she realized that those crystal shoes and white veils were probably only for royalty, rarely seen by ordinary people.

Since the local people have such a high regard for gauze products, Xiang Wan thought of many modern garments. If she could get the Queen Mother to open a clothing store specializing in lightweight gauze garments, it would surely be very profitable. She decided to first investigate the streets and then discuss it with the Queen Mother. The store could then become a goldmine. This was one of the reasons why Xiang Wan didn't refuse Qin Rong's invitation. Although it wasn't the main reason, it was a convenient opportunity, so why not take it?

The carriage swayed and lurched for about 45 minutes before arriving at the most bustling part of the city. The three of them alighted from the carriage, and with their belongings carried by a maid, they walked out onto the main street.

"Rong'er, are there any thieves on the street?" Xiang Wan asked. When they arrived at a crowded place, she thought of hiding her money first, just in case, based on her experience of shopping in modern times.

"The area is very safe, so don't worry," Qin Rong replied.

Qin Rong's words reassured Xiang Wan slightly, but she was soon drawn to the bustling street and forgot about the matter. Little did she know that this small sense of comfort would lead her and Xiang Xia into Qin Rong's trap, where they faced numerous dangers.
