Chapter 219: The Guide to Taming a Loyal Dog (Part 5)

"We've eaten together, and we've taken care of each other, but we don't even know each other's names. Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"

Xiang Wan stared at Xuan Yuanlie, awaiting his reply. She hadn't asked because she already knew Xuan Yuanlie's identity and background; moreover, he was the person she planned to win over. Not mentioning it immediately was her oversight. But Xuan Yuanlie had enjoyed her care for a whole day and night, yet he hadn't asked about it either. Was he thinking they wouldn't have any further contact after leaving this place, or did he simply not take her seriously? This wouldn't do; she couldn't let all her efforts go to waste.

Xuan Yuanlie was stunned, his ears turned bright red, and his embarrassed eyes flickered for a moment before he solemnly said, "You can call me Lie, but as for anything else, please forgive me for not being able to say, as it would cause you trouble."

The whole person is here. If there's any trouble, we've already had it all. Why be stingy with a mere name?

As Xiang Wan thought about it, her eyes dimmed. She stared at the bowl on the table, hesitated for a long time, and then said, "You don't need to worry that I will ask for something in return. What I said just now was just talk. Anyway, I've been used to living alone since I was a child. I thought that if you were here, I wouldn't be so lonely... Sigh, since you don't want to, I won't force you."

Xiang Wan picked up her bowl and chopsticks, got up and walked out, leaving Xuan Yuanlie with a lonely figure.

Xuan Yuanlie felt a pang of sadness watching this scene. He couldn't imagine that a woman as seemingly strong as Xiang Wan had always lived alone. She, too, must have longed for companionship, right? But his identity… well, it was just a name after all. Even if she came to him later to repay a debt of gratitude, it wouldn't be a big deal.

“Wait a minute,” Xuan Yuanlie called out to Xiang Wan, and solemnly introduced himself, “My surname is Xuan Yuan, and my given name is Lie.”

"oh!"

Xiang Wan responded and continued walking out, cleaning up the dishes.

Sitting inside, Xuan Yuanlie had expected Xiang Wan to rush over excitedly, asking if he was the legendary general. To his surprise, the person opposite him remained completely unmoved. He was puzzled. Was this place so isolated that even he didn't know about it?

Xiang Wan silently washed the dishes, secretly chuckling to herself: Well, he jumped into this hole himself, so he can't be blamed.

Back inside, Xuan Yuanlie kept looking at Xiang Wan, thinking she hadn't understood him, so he repeated, "My name is Xuan Yuanlie, the 'lie' of 'scorching sun,' you've heard of me, right?"

Xiang Wan feigned hesitation and said, "Xuanyuan Lie? The name sounds familiar, like I've heard it somewhere before, but where exactly is it..."

Xuan Yuanlie's face darkened slightly, and he pointed to the sky. Xiang Wan suddenly realized and said, "Oh, I remember now, there was a general also named Xuan Yuanlie. It's said that he was both scholarly and martial, tall and strong, the prince charming in every woman's heart, and said to be able to do everything. Is this the person you're talking about?"

Being praised without warning, Xuan Yuanlie felt a sudden pang of guilt and nodded slightly.

Xiang Wan stared at him with bright, sparkling eyes, which made him look away somewhat.

"So, you can do everything? You must be on a secret mission, right? Don't worry, I won't tell anyone."

Excited, Xiang Wan showered Xuan Yuanlie with compliments until he blushed and felt embarrassed, at which point she stopped.

Being admired is a man's nature. Xuan Yuanlie probably has plenty of people flattering him, but this is the first time he's encountered such direct and innocent praise. This novelty is only temporary; it won't be as effective afterward. Having already blocked someone's path, would Xuan Yuanlie be easily swayed again?

There was only one bed in the room, so how could Xuan Yuanlie possibly take it all? Xiang Wan politely pushed it away once, but after being refused, she quickly covered herself with the blanket and fell asleep.

It was the first time that Xuan Yuanlie had been in a room with a strange woman while fully conscious. He suffered from insomnia and stared silently in Xiang Wan's direction for most of the night before finally drifting off to sleep, still hearing Xiang Wan's chattering voice in his ears.

Early the next morning, Xiang Wan tiptoed out to set the traps, just as Xuan Yuanlie woke up. Upon learning that Xiang Wan was going to the beach, Xuan Yuanlie followed without hesitation.

The morning breeze was a bit chilly. As Xiang Wan walked, she said, "Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself yesterday. My name is Xiang Wan, and my surname is Changsun. You can call me Xiang Wan, and I'll call you A Lie."

Before Xuan Yuanlie could answer, he said, "I've always been very curious about A Lie. People say he's a guardian deity. I wonder, since he's a god, could he bless me with more fish and shrimp every time I go out, that I'll have good weather when I go out, that I won't encounter bad people, and that I'll be healthy and free from illness?"

Xuan Yuanlie looked at Xiang Wan with amusement and replied, "He's human too, and he gets sick too."

"Really? That's so disappointing." Xiang Wan suddenly said dejectedly, "Why do I always feel that the person you're talking about is different from the person I heard about? It's like my dreams have been shattered."

Xuan Yuanlie's lips twitched, but he couldn't bear to disappoint Xiang Wan, so he said, "But I can guarantee that you will be able to catch a lot of fish every day from now on."

"Really? That's great."

Xiang Wan watched with great excitement as Xuan Yuanlie walked barefoot into the icy water, cast his net to set traps, and then went to the rocks to catch fish. At first, he was clumsy, but Xiang Wan's admiring and praising tone transformed him from a novice into a pro.

So, until he left, Xuan Yuanlie was not only a master fisherman, but also a skilled cook.

Xiang Wan, of course, did not admit that she was tricking him, and instead claimed that it was to make her idol more down-to-earth.

In Xuan Yuanlie's heart, Xiang Wan was his little fangirl, always believing he was omnipotent. Crucially, he couldn't bear to tarnish the shining image he held in Xiang Wan's eyes. Therefore, he was destined to be completely dominated by this kind of manipulative tactic.
