Chapter 24 Cinderella's Comeback (Twenty-Four)

After Xiang Wan helped Xiang Xia to the guest room, she called the maid at the door to bring water. The two of them washed their faces and sat down at the table to drink some tea.

At this moment, the effects of the alcohol were rising in Xiang Xia's head, her eyelids drooped, and she couldn't sit up straight at the table, looking drowsy.

Xiang Wan abandoned her original plan to discuss matters with Xiang Xia, helped her to bed, and covered her with the blanket. She then lay down herself, reflecting on everything that had happened that day.

The more she thought about it, the stranger it seemed. From the moment Qin Rong left home that morning, it appeared she had already fallen into her trap. Although she had never left the Qin residence before, she at least knew that it was located in Anyang City and shouldn't be too far from this commercial district.

She was sleepy when she left the house in the morning, and Xiang Xia was only focused on taking care of her, occasionally glancing at the scenery outside the carriage. The carriage ended up taking her on several detours before finally reaching a bustling street. She hadn't thought of it before, simply drawn by the lively atmosphere of the area. But now, upon reflection, she realized something was amiss.

Anyang City isn't particularly large, nor is it small, but it took so long to travel by carriage from the Qin residence—even walking would have taken that long. Unless she deliberately had the coachman drive in circles so she wouldn't recognize the route, and ironically, she hadn't noticed.

Of all the restaurants on the street, Qin Rong specifically chose one that looked very large but was actually quite far from the main street, and the surrounding environment seemed a bit too quiet, which was quite suspicious.

She said she knew the restaurant's signature dishes, and they were indeed quite delicious, but the owner didn't seem like a businessman. Normally, if a manager with a fierce face appeared, no matter how tempting the food was, there probably wouldn't be many customers. At noon, they chose to sit on the second floor again; Xiang Wan didn't pay attention to how many customers were on the first floor, she was too busy eating.

After the meal, Qin Rong was so annoyed by Xiao Lan that she went to pay the bill. As a result, Xiao Lan sent both maids away. The two maids felt bad about eating for free, so they thought they could pay for the pastries. This resulted in the two maids having no money to pay the bill after the maids left.

When Qin Rong was about to go out to look for Xiao Lan, Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia wanted to follow, but Qin Rong seemed a little flustered and made an excuse to slip away. Just then, Madam Liu arrived at the shop.

The innkeeper tried to drag them into the back room of the restaurant, seemingly intending to sell them to pay off debts, but it was mostly a bluff; during the struggle, he didn't seem to use much force. Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia were frightened and didn't think much of it, eventually being helped by Madam Liu. They hadn't wanted to leave in the first place, but the innkeeper had provoked them to go.

Madam Liu didn't intend for them to come along, but in that situation, everyone would be grateful to her, so there was no reason for them not to.

Later, after the waiter took the money, the way he looked at them was a little strange, which made Xiang Wan feel a chill when she thought about it.

Madam Liu's attitude changed drastically, and she kept urging them to drink during the meal, seemingly intending to get them drunk. As for what they wanted to do, Xiang Wan thought of modern-day human traffickers, and a chill ran down her spine. But for now, it was just speculation; if they wrongly accused an innocent person, that would be quite a spectacle.

Xiang Xia was already fast asleep, and with no one to discuss things with, Xiang Wan couldn't help but feel a tightness in her chest.

"007, am I being targeted?" Xiang Wan silently summoned the system in her mind.

"If the host dies during the mission, he will disappear forever." The system's cold voice rang out, almost making Xiang Wan spit out a mouthful of blood.

She knew this system was unreliable and would only stab her in the back when it mattered most. Now she had to figure out a solution herself.

Unfortunately, she was too weak to carry anything, and lacked the agility to escape. At that moment, she deeply regretted not having developed a strong physique; she probably wouldn't even be able to climb a wall.

After calming down, she decided to find out more about the situation before making any plans.
