"Host, are you sure you want to go back now?"
Xiang Wan fell silent. After experiencing so many mission worlds, she was indeed a bit tired and wanted to rest and give herself a break. The place that made her feel most at ease was her original world. However, the system had said from the beginning that traveling through various mission worlds required constantly accumulating energy and completing missions, let alone going home.
She knew that a certain amount of energy was needed, so she originally planned to use the rewards from this world to exchange for the opportunity to go back.
"Now that things have come to this, this system might as well tell you that you can go back, but you won't be able to stay for long, and you will need to complete a task."
"good!"
Xiang Wan quickly agreed, lest the system change its mind. She had only been trying it out initially, but she hadn't expected to actually be able to go back. She would agree to any conditions.
The system remained silent for a long while before finally saying, "I hope you won't regret this!"
A suction force came, and Xiang Wan lost consciousness.
On the temple floor, a man in blue robes was violently thrown to the ground by a beam of light, blood flowing from his mouth and nose.
"Mind your own business! Go to the ice pool and stay there for forty-nine days. You are not allowed to use your spiritual power to resist."
The man in the red robe on the throne straightened up, casually withdrew his hand, closed his eyelids slightly, but the tips of his fingers that were holding the armrest of the chair turned slightly white.
The man in blue bowed deeply, staggered to his feet, and slowly walked out, but stopped a second before stepping out of the main hall.
"Your Majesty, I only wish to stay by your side. Even if there is the slightest possibility of harm to you, I will eliminate it even at the cost of my own soul."
With that, the man in blue quickly walked out of the palace gate and disappeared in a wisp of blue smoke.
A man in white appeared in the hall, knelt on one knee, and pleaded with the man on the throne, "Your Majesty, is this punishment too harsh? Could you please show leniency...?"
"You want to be punished too?"
"This... Jia, after all, is also for His Excellency's sake..."
"Such presumptuous and reckless behavior deserves a lenient punishment." The man in the fine robe said coldly, his expression turning icy. "You are here to guard the ice pool. You are not to leave before the appointed time!"
"yes!"
The man in white accepted the order and left, but what he was thinking was that the God was ultimately unwilling to be harsh, and how fortunate Jia was to be able to follow the God.
In the empty hall, the man addressed as the God-Emperor rose and slowly paced along the hall, his fingertips touching the pillars of the walls, murmuring softly, "After all this time, you still don't want to come back?"
She opened her eyes, and a long-lost sense of familiarity washed over her. The magnified face in front of her was none other than her fiancé, He Yang.
Before she could even react, Xiang Wan was pinned down, and He Yang kissed her gently while unbuttoning her clothes.
Having just returned, Xiang Wan felt she couldn't accept being eaten right away. She nudged He Yang and said urgently, "Yangzi, wait a minute. I need to go to the toilet, I can't hold it in anymore."
He Yang froze, staring intently at Xiang Wan, then leaned to the side, lying on his back without saying a word.
Xiang Wan knew he was angry, so she turned to the side, nudged his arm with her hand, and said in a low voice, "Sorry, sorry, I was really in a hurry, it'll be over in a bit."
He Yang sighed, covered his eyes with one hand, pushed Xiang Wan off the bed with the other, and pulled the blanket up to his neck. "I'm tired. I'm going to sleep now."
Saying anything more at this point would be superfluous. Xiang Wan thought she would come back and comfort him after figuring out what had happened.
She entered the bathroom in the dark, turned on the light, and looked at herself in the mirror. Her skin was sallow, her eyes were covered in dark circles, her hair was messy, and she looked unkempt. She couldn't even bring herself to eat the sight of herself. When had a woman in her early twenties, full of youthful energy, become like this? She looked like a woman in her thirties or forties. Before, she had never paid attention to these things, only knowing how to work desperately, constantly working overtime, hoping to own her own house and start her own family, forgetting all about taking care of herself.
In every mission world, which one of them wouldn't be better off than her current self? If she continues living like this, Xiang Wan can see herself gradually growing old, like a withered flower that has lost its vibrant color before it has even truly bloomed, leaving only decay.
"Plot reception countdown, please prepare as soon as possible. Three, two, one, begin!"
As soon as she managed to sit back on the toilet, a whole series of scenes flashed through her mind, some of hers, some of others'. This time, she was watching the drama unfold before her eyes from a third-person perspective.
The first character to appear in the story is a fair-skinned girl named An Shui'er. As a child, she was playing by a stream when she accidentally fell in and was rescued by He Yang, who happened to be passing by. Afterwards, He Yang forgot all about it, but An Shui'er remembered it.
When He Yang's company was hiring, An Shui'er came and immediately recognized the person who had saved her. Overjoyed, she kept trying to strike up a conversation with He Yang, but was always politely rejected. Later, when she learned that He Yang had gotten married, she was saddened, but still couldn't help but care about him.
The two were closer than others, so some busybodies told Xiang Wan about it. Xiang Wan's first reaction wasn't to ask He Yang to verify, but to hire a private investigator to film He Yang and An Shui'er's interactions. Afterwards, Xiang Wan found An Shui'er and told her to leave and never come back, or she would expose their affair.
An Shui'er didn't admit it, and Xiang Wan, in a fit of anger, caused a scene in the company lobby, attracting the attention of everyone in the company. He Yang, looking displeased, pulled Xiang Wan back, explained to her, and promised to keep his distance from An Shui'er.
