Chapter 260 Not Cannon Fodder (Part Two)

"System, why are you showing me this? This is my own life, I don't need to know the answers in advance, you have no right to do this!"

Even if you know it won't end well, are you still going to continue? After experiencing so many worlds, I thought you should have understood by now.

The system seemed to take it all for granted, not quite understanding why Xiang Wan was questioning it like this.

Ha, how can that be the same? In the mission world, she experienced other people's lives, so she could remain calm and even devise strategies to avoid a terrible ending. But this time it's her own life. Because it's unknown, there are countless possibilities. Even if the final result isn't what she wants, it's the result of her own choices. Her joys and sorrows are entirely up to her. What right do others have to interfere?

“It’s different, it’s different. Because this is my own life. What I want to do, how I should do it, and what the consequences will be, I will bear them all myself. I don’t want anyone to bother me, especially you!”

This time, Xiang Wan's tone was somewhat unfriendly. The system knew she was genuinely angry, but still couldn't understand.

"Host, we don't have much time to stay. Are you sure you want to waste it on a terrible ending?"

These words struck Xiang Wan in her most vulnerable spot. She trembled all over, and all her strength crumbled instantly.

Yes, she was afraid—afraid that her wholehearted devotion would ultimately lead to such an outcome. To say she didn't love He Yang would render all the missions she had experienced meaningless; to say she did love him, how could she bear such a humiliating act of begging him to stay?

He Yang wasn't a bad person. From the moment she met him until now, and from everything that happened in the story, Xiang Wan knew that the ending would be just like in the story, with He Yang always staying by her side. But how much he truly loved her, Xiang Wan wasn't sure, or perhaps she didn't dare to think about it, afraid of getting a result completely different from her expectations.

Call it self-deception or blind stubbornness, she simply refused to believe everything that happened in the story, and even resisted it, thus venting her resentment on the system.

In this story, there's no right or wrong. An Shui'er couldn't control her feelings and wanted to care for her savior. The mistake was meeting the right person at the wrong time. She never confessed her feelings, nor did she overstep any boundaries; she simply waited and watched silently. Perhaps it was precisely this special bond that caused Xiang Wan in the story to lose her composure and actively push He Yang towards her.

"Host, if you want to avoid the ending in the story, you can completely keep He Yang's heart firmly tied to you, not giving An Shui'er any chance. Or..."

Xiang Wan understood what the system hadn't finished saying, but she couldn't accept it.

"Fine, this system can't persuade you. I just hope you won't regret it."

That line again! Xiang Wan had experienced so much in the mission world and never thought of regretting it, so why did she regret it now that she was in her own world?

"Tell me, what is this mission? What is my wish, original owner of this body?"

The system was silent for a moment before saying, "Don't do anything you'll regret."

Is it really that simple? In the story, Xiang Wan simply doesn't want to have any regrets, right?

Xiang Wan got up, washed up, walked out of the bathroom, sat on the sofa in the living room, and thought about many things. She couldn't sleep all night.

Her parents weren't high-ranking officials or wealthy people; their lives, though not rich, were comfortable. Growing up under their meticulous care, she was full of enthusiasm for life and hope for the future. At eighteen, she was admitted to university, hoping to meet someone who would capture her heart during her studies, but she didn't meet him until graduation.

He Yang studied interior design. The year Xiang Wan graduated, he came to her school to conduct a social survey. A chance encounter made Xiang Wan's attention completely fall on this tall, handsome, and sunny He Yang.

He Yang started working only a year earlier than Xiang Wan, and he often worked overtime. Xiang Wan's job was to organize materials for the company's seniors and keep records, which was quite leisurely, and she didn't have much time to work overtime. Whenever she had free time, she would go to He Yang's rented apartment to cook for him, tidy up the house, and wait for him to come home.

The two decided to rent an apartment together, a suggestion made by He Yang. He felt that constantly traveling back and forth was a waste of time and money, and he was also worried about Xiang Wan's safety when she went back. Because of this reason, Xiang Wan was secretly delighted and couldn't sleep for half the night.

They had also fantasized about what kind of life they wanted to live in the future, what kind of house they wanted to buy, how many children they wanted to have, whether they wanted boys or girls, but without exception, they were defeated by reality.

He Yang was promoted quickly due to his outstanding performance, and his salary also increased. Xiang Wan, on the other hand, focused all her attention on He Yang, and her work took a backseat. She always thought that since her boyfriend's salary was higher, she could quit her job and become a full-time housewife, and wouldn't have to work so hard. So she remained stagnant.

Xiang Wan always kept the salary card, and she managed the daily expenses for utilities, property fees, rent, household necessities, and food. He Yang never asked about it. At first, Xiang Wan was happy to see He Yang's salary increase, but later she became anxious, afraid that one day He Yang would look down on her. So, after preparing a lavish dinner, Xiang Wan proposed to He Yang.

She was the one who brought up the marriage. Xiang Wan still remembered He Yang's expression at the time; he looked at her with surprise, then calmly nodded in agreement. Overjoyed, Xiang Wan didn't even notice the slight struggle that crossed He Yang's face when he heard the word "marriage."

The wedding was on the agenda. Xiang Wan informed her parents, saying that everything should be kept simple, and that after getting the marriage certificate, they would go back to hold a banquet to invite relatives and friends. At that time, she forgot that her parents had not yet met He Yang, and she also forgot that He Yang had not yet let her meet his family. She always thought that as long as they got the marriage certificate, it would be the same to go back and meet them later.
