Chapter 269 Not Cannon Fodder (Part 11)

In the end, Xiang Wan decided to meet the game company's representative with her true appearance. To cooperate, sincerity was essential, but she could use her abilities to persuade them to agree, without revealing her face, name, or even gender. She didn't want fame; she just wanted to earn enough money to provide a stable life for her parents, nothing more.

Project manager Liu was very busy answering phone calls in his office. He gestured for Xiang Wan to sit on the sofa for a while and then asked his assistant to bring her a cup of coffee.

The office was very simple, with just a desk and a few chairs. Xiang Wan couldn't help but wonder if this was a scam masquerading as a game company.

Manager Liu was very young, probably no more than thirty years old, thin, and with a pale complexion; he clearly spent most of his time sitting in an office. A pile of documents covered his entire desk.

When she entered the building, she assumed it was a branch of a game company, and there was someone at the front desk to greet her and show her the way. However, once inside, she was greatly disappointed. Although the entire floor was plastered with game company signs, she saw very few people. All these signs made her suspicious.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." Manager Liu hung up the phone, rummaged on the table, took out a piece of paper, and said, "Please fill out this form first. We need to test your abilities on-site. There are quite a few people here today, and we are short-staffed. Please understand!"

Xiang Wan took the form and glanced at it; it required filling in some basic information. She put the form aside, looked at Manager Liu, and asked, "Where is the person I'm supposed to contact? Can I see them?"

Manager Liu was taken aback and asked in surprise, "Most of the people who come here are received by Xiao Wu. Didn't you see him downstairs just now?"

"I'm referring to the person who called to invite me over."

Manager Liu chuckled and quickly said, "We have dedicated liaisons, but they're mostly at headquarters. Do you think we look too simple for a large game company?"

Xiang Wan tacitly agreed, but everyone would be suspicious, wouldn't they?

"Come here, look this way," Manager Liu said, getting up and going to the window on one side, pulling back the curtains. "Everyone is here, testing various skills. Our staff needs to maintain order and do logistics; you're the last one to arrive."

Xiang Wan walked to the window and looked inside, almost spilling her coffee. In the spacious hall, hundreds of computers were lined up, and almost every single one had someone in front of it, the screens all displaying scenes from the game "Myth," and everyone was wearing headphones and playing.

"Our technicians are right behind the lobby, ready to handle any emergencies and maintain server stability. We've created a mini-game kingdom here, where everyone in the lobby is on the same server, choosing their best character to PK against each other, and finally determining the winner to advance to the next round."

It's truly amazing. So many people competing at the same time, the slightest carelessness can lead to elimination. It's an extreme test of eyesight, brainpower, and hand strength.

Seeing this, Xiang Wan believed it.

"Those who are invited by us are all people with outstanding abilities or significant influence in the game, and without exception, they are all very strong. We don't care about gender, we only care about ability."

Nevertheless, those we selected were almost exclusively male, with very few females. This is easily explained: our game emphasizes strength, allowing many to fulfill their heroic or martial arts dreams, while most female players are simply there to experience life and have little interest in PvP.

Playing games is a form of entertainment for most people, but participating in competitions is extremely physically and mentally taxing. Therefore, I advise you to think carefully. If you can't handle the pressure and have to quit halfway through, we can only express our regret.

"What is the competition process? How many rounds are there? Please provide details about the location, time, and nearby hotels and restaurants."

Are you sure you want to join?

"I came as promised after receiving your invitation. Do you expect me to back out?"

"Don't mind me, I was just mentioning some possible future scenarios. The choice is yours. After you fill out the form, I'll have my assistant get you a competition guide with a life guide attached."

Xiang Wan nodded, returned to her desk, filled out the form, and before handing it over, asked one more question: "If I play in an open tournament, I don't want my personal information to be exposed. Can your company handle that?"

Manager Liu raised an eyebrow and smiled, "As long as we win, any conditions are negotiable."

"Um."

Xiang Wan handed the form over. Manager Liu glanced at it, seemed somewhat surprised, looked up at Xiang Wan, and then put the form back into a stack of documents next to him.

Since it was still early, Xiang Wan planned to find a hotel to settle in first, and then start playing the game in the afternoon.

"If you don't mind," Manager Liu said as Xiang Wan was about to leave, "would it be convenient for you to come into the server room now and experience it first?"

This was an opportunity to test her abilities; Xiang Wan knew without a doubt that Manager Liu had little confidence in her. A warm-up before the official competition that afternoon would be beneficial. Xiang Wan readily agreed and followed her assistant into the adjacent hall.

There weren't many spare computers, so Xiang Wan randomly picked one and logged into the game.

The game *Mythology* is based on ancient Chinese mythology, which can be broadly divided into three categories: humans, gods, and ghosts. Humans are the initial character upon entering the game; they can learn various skills and eventually transform into either a ghost or a god based on their level of evil. Gods possess purification skills, granting immunity to various curses and reducing damage taken by teammates. Ghosts, on the other hand, possess invisibility; the longer they cultivate this skill, the longer their invisibility lasts.
