Chapter 286 Not Cannon Fodder (Twenty-Eight)

Her pitiful yet deeply pained appearance was etched into He Yang's mind.

This man, outwardly always appearing as a gentleman, calm and collected, is actually quite vulnerable to a woman's advances, especially from someone like Xiang Wan who has experienced several worlds and understands men's weaknesses. From then on, every time he was intimate with An Shui'er, he would recall Xiang Wan's words, her expression, and the intense sensual stimulation she gave him. An Shui'er was gentle and considerate enough, but not open and carefree enough. When He Yang couldn't find the same feeling in her as he did with Xiang Wan, he became increasingly dissatisfied and repressed. What the final outcome would be, even Xiang Wan herself couldn't say.

He provoked her first! Xiang Wan wasn't a kind person, but she didn't want to be framed for nothing. She planted a seed in He Yang's heart, waiting for time to slowly ferment.

As she walked down the corridor, she saw Qiu Rui waiting beside her. He kept staring at Xiang Wan, lost in thought.

"Let's go, you've achieved your goal."

She'd already shown her face, and what needed to be settled had been settled. Xiang Wan didn't want to stay here for even a second longer. She desperately wanted to go out for some fresh air and relax.

While talking to He Yang, she unconsciously began to regard this place as the mission world. She needed to find a sense of reality, to prove that she wasn't doing a mission, but was in her own real life.

Qiu Rui didn't say much, silently following behind Xiang Wan, opening the car door for her, and speeding away with her.

"Qiu Rui, let me give it a try."

Do you have a driver's license?

"No, but I can drive. Do you dare to give it a try?"

"good!"

After adjusting the driver's seat, Xiang Wan drove to the suburbs, truly experiencing what it meant to drive a car like an airplane. Qiu Rui, in the passenger seat, let out an exaggerated shout. Xiang Wan, caught up in the excitement, shouted all the way, venting her emotions. Finally, she parked the car by the river and sat on the embankment to enjoy the scenery.

"Qiu Rui, you are really annoying."

"Don't always judge people with old eyes. If you look at it from a different perspective, maybe I would be a good lover."

"Heh, I can't afford a mistress like you."

"Then you can consider becoming my mistress, and I'll support you."

Xiang Wan smiled but didn't answer. The biggest lie in the world is when a man says, "I'll take care of you." Once a woman actually believes it, the man starts to complain that she's lazy and doesn't support the family, completely forgetting who made her live a life of waiting to be fed.

As the night breeze blows, I watch the city lights reflected in the water and listen to the sound of waves lapping against the river. As evening approaches, my heart gradually calms down.

A coat was draped over her shoulders, still warm from her body and carrying the distinctive scent of a man. Xiang Wan grabbed the coat with disgust and tossed it back.

"Don't try that on me, I'm not cold."

Qiu Rui shook his head regretfully and put the clothes on. "She's so unromantic. What man could stand her?"

"Then why are you still moving closer to me?"

"I was just trying to stop you from harming others, so I was acting on behalf of Heaven!"

"I never knew you had this potential?"

"If you get to know me better, you'll find that I'm actually quite cute."

"Generally, the shinier the fruit's skin, the more rotten it is inside. I don't like that!"

"Congratulations, you've seen through the true nature of fruit. Now, would you like to take a look at its glamorous side?"

Xiang Wan chuckled, but when she heard a noise beside her, she turned around and almost dropped her jaw in shock: Qiu Rui had already stripped off his shirt, revealing his muscular chest, and even deliberately shook his pectoral muscles and puffed out his eight-pack abs, looking smug.

To be honest, Qiu Rui did have a great physique and a handsome face, perfectly fulfilling a woman's fantasy of her other half. However, Xiang Wan only admired him for a moment before telling him to put his clothes on, explaining that she didn't want to be around someone with a cold and risk catching it.

Whether intentionally or not, Qiu Rui discovered the next day, when Xiang Wan said goodbye, that he had indeed caught a cold. Not wanting to leave him alone, Xiang Wan had no choice but to cancel her flight and stay to take care of him, continuing to live next door.

Whenever she had time to go online, Xiang Wan would log into the game to see if the top player was online and pick up some quests. She never forgot her 5 AM practice session, but found that the top player was offline for several days in a row. Xiang Wan couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with the top player—was something happening to him, or had something come up? She didn't dare to think the worst. Every time she logged into the game, she would leave a message for the top player. If she didn't receive a reply, she would ask Shuai De Yi Bi. Shuai De Yi Bi only said that he was on a business trip and his return date was uncertain.

Xiang Wan felt relieved. Once Qiu Rui felt a little better, she booked a plane ticket and urged him to go back.

Qiu Rui looked reluctant, and Xiang Wan thought he was reluctant to leave, so she told him to come back to play next time he recovered.

Back home, Xiang Wan's parents were naturally very happy, serving her fruit and tea. If they hadn't asked her about her relationship with Qiu Rui, Xiang Wan would have felt even more comfortable.

Xiang Wan turned on the TV and flipped through a few channels before spotting a news report about someone jumping off a building. It seemed to be from the same hospital where Xu Jinlian had been. She looked closely at the photo of the deceased and realized it really was Xu Jinlian.

At this point, Xiang Wan couldn't stay calm. She dialed Wu Xiaole's number, but it rang for a long time without being answered. Unable to sit still any longer, Xiang Wan took a taxi to the hospital, where she found that the police had already cordoned off the area, and people were talking about it everywhere in the hospital.

"Have you heard? An elderly woman in her sixties or seventies, supposedly had a few words with her son, and in a moment of despair, jumped off a building in the middle of the night."

"This old lady usually seems quite kind, I never expected her to be so extreme."
