"No, I'm not lying to you, I'm just... a little excited!"
Xiang Wan could control her voice from trembling, but she couldn't control her body's instincts. Her heart raced, not only from nervousness, but also from the way the person behind her was speaking, their voice brushing against her earlobe—a sensitive spot for her body! Her body reacted involuntarily, and Xiang Wan felt both embarrassed and annoyed, hating herself for not paying attention to her surroundings. She hadn't even seen such a big thing as her snake transformation, and she was being held like this.
"Rui, the Rui of auspiciousness, is my name!"
A deep, magnetic voice sounded in her ear, and Xiang Wan trembled all over. In a daze, she seemed to hear Qiu Rui's voice.
"Woman, if I catch you daydreaming again, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
The voice beside her suddenly turned cold, and Xiang Wan snapped back to reality. She smiled bitterly; snakes are extremely sensitive creatures, how could she have made such a basic mistake!
"Rui, your voice is so beautiful."
"You like it?"
"Yes, I like it!"
At this point, is there anything else to say besides this?
"Rui, I'd like to see what you look like, is that alright?"
"Um!"
Xiang Wan remained motionless, letting Rui hold her waist with both hands, lift her up, and then slowly stretch her forward and put her on the ground.
With her feet firmly on the ground, Xiang Wan breathed a sigh of relief and slowly retreated into the water behind her.
"Rui, don't move. I'll move a little further away so I can see you better."
The water gradually rose above her waist, covered her chest, and submerged her neck. Only then did Xiang Wan feel slightly safe, and most of her unease subsided.
What kind of person was this? His eyebrows slanted long and arched, his eyes were slender and captivating, with a hint of wickedness in their depth. His nose was high and straight, his lips thin and exquisitely shaped. Most importantly, his face wasn't as soft as a pretty boy's; it was rugged yet rounded, very pleasing to the eye. And then there was his muscular body, his long legs, and between his thighs… Xiang Wan abruptly raised her gaze. Having just felt its strength, she didn't want to add to her troubles.
Perhaps sensing Xiang Wan's unease, Rui smiled gently, his eyes sparkling with charm, and walked towards Xiang Wan.
"No, don't come any closer, I'm not dressed yet!"
"I thought you liked this kind of honesty!"
Xiang Wan's face flushed crimson. Maintaining a safe distance from Rui, she kept inching closer to the shore. She was practically in despair. Could someone tell her why a newly transformed snake could speak four-character idioms? Was she too out of touch, or was this world too fantastical?
“Rui, listen to me. Now that you have taken human form, you must abide by human rules. We humans never interact with others naked; we must wear clothes!”
Rui frowned and pondered for a moment, then asked doubtfully, "Do they wear clothes when they mate?"
Xiang Wan slipped and almost choked on the water. This filthy snake, barely out of human form and already thinking about mating, what's wrong with its brain? She seriously suspected that Rui said that on purpose, just to see her embarrass herself.
When she looked up and carefully observed Rui's expression, she realized that he was indeed asking the question seriously, and Xiang Wan was at a loss for words.
"We snakes have never worn clothes and live freely, so why should humans make things so complicated?"
Another headache. Xiang Wan thought for a moment and was just about to explain when she caught a glimpse of a shrewd look in a snake's eyes out of the corner of her eye. She immediately jumped into the water and swam quickly toward the shore.
Damn it, she just transformed and he already knew she was a woman, and he knew that her racing heartbeat was a lie. How could he not understand the difference between humans and snakes? Damn it, I almost fell for it again.
In her anger, Xiang Wan almost forgot that snakes are inherently cunning and intelligent creatures, especially since the one she encountered had taken human form. How could the word "simple" even exist?
No matter how hard she tried, how could she possibly compete with Rui, who was an expert in swimming?
Before she could swim a few strokes, Xiang Wan was once again tightly wrapped around the waist by a pair of arms, and the other person swam her forcefully towards the shore.
Resurfaced, Xiang Wan used her inner strength to forcefully pry open Rui's arms and ran towards where the clothes were.
The snake, having just transformed, couldn't use its legs as skillfully as she could. Taking advantage of Rui's adjustment to walking, Xiang Wan quickly put on her clothes, holding the scale in her hand, and said to Rui, "Hurry up and find some clothes to put on, or don't blame me for being impolite!"
Rui looked around, spread his hands, shrugged, and said, "Where are the clothes?"
Xiang Wan slowly backed away and saw a huge snakeskin next to two rocks. She said to Rui, "Wrap the snakeskin around your body!"
"It's so big, how do we surround it?"
"Why don't you cut off a few pieces?"
"Too dirty, no!"
Xiang Wan snapped, "This is your own skin, what's dirty about it?"
"You don't mind the dirt? Then wear it, but give me your clothes!"
"Is this still not over? How are you going to go out without clothes on?"
"Together?"
"Can I get out by myself?"
A hint of disappointment flashed in Rui's eyes, though it was unclear what he was disappointed about.
"Two choices: either give me your clothes and I'll make you another set, or we'll live here forever, just the two of us, isolated from the world, in a secluded paradise, where the man tills the fields and the woman weaves..."
"Shut up, who wants to live here with you?"
"Well, it's the same if you go out to live."
"Shut up, I'll make you a set!"
Xiang Wan didn't want to argue anymore. She realized that the snake, now in human form, was even more pretentious than she was. It seemed that if she didn't solve his clothing problem, he would definitely make her live here with him for the rest of her life. She still had things to do; how could she waste her time here?
Resigned to his fate, he cut open the snakeskin with scales and made many thin strips to use as ropes, finally fulfilling the requirement of covering his body.
When she offered it to Rui, he refused to take it, insisting on having the one Xiang Wan was wearing. Xiang Wan didn't want to waste any more words with him; she needed to get out of there as soon as possible, where she could change into plenty of clothes.
Xiang Wan slightly altered everything on her body except her underwear, turning it into capri pants and a vest for Rui to wear. She then washed the snakeskin clean, made a dress from it, and used the thin snakeskin pieces she had cut off to make ropes to tie around her body.
When it was time to leave, Xiang Wan asked him to put his snakeskin on his belt so he could sell it for money. The snake, however, refused to take it, saying it was dirty.
Xiang Wan just couldn't understand why he would be so disgusted with something that had fallen from his own body.
With no other option, in order to raise some travel expenses, Xiang Wan had no choice but to resign herself to dragging the snakeskin roll along. At least it was a snakeskin that had been properly cultivated; she could sell it for 100,000 or 200,000 yuan on the market, which would give her the capital to show off.
Right now, Ye Zhi Qiu and Zeng Yi must be busy preparing for their wedding, and they certainly don't want to see her, someone who's already been declared dead, appear. Xiang Wan wants to show them what karma is and what retribution is.
Rui, who was leading the way, caught a glimpse of Xiang Wan's expression out of the corner of his eye. A smile flashed across his eyes, but he pretended not to notice anything and continued to clear the way for Xiang Wan.
