Even the most indifferent person, upon seeing someone die, regardless of whether they are a relative or not, shouldn't react this way. Cui Ruliu was just immersed in grief, but now that she's calmed down, even if she wanted to vent her anger on someone, she couldn't bear to see anyone vomiting in front of her son's corpse. This time, Hao Yuchun is in trouble!
Xiang Wan quietly moved her feet, found an inconspicuous corner to stay in, and took the opportunity to add fuel to the fire by sprinkling some of the prepared medicine powder on the surrounding open ground.
"Hahaha, Zheng'er, did you see that? This is your beloved sister whom you've been longing for. She came over and vomited on your corpse as soon as you left! Hao Yuchun, you're very good!"
Cui Ruliu laughed in fury, her pale face contorted and terrifying. For so many years in the Hao household, she had been diligent and conscientious, never daring to make a single mistake, lest she incur Hao Xuan's disdain. Heaven had taken pity on her, granting her Zheng'er, and from then on, her heart was entirely devoted to her son, making her increasingly attentive to the affairs of the household.
Over the years, Hao Xuan had treated her fairly well. Considering she had a son, he entrusted her with managing all the affairs of the household. Among so many concubines, she was the only one with a son and a status no less than that of the principal wife. Hao Xuan doted on his daughter, so she followed his wishes, giving all the good things to Hao Yuchun first, and only giving the rest to her Zheng'er. Over the years, she never complained.
Hao Yuchun was beautiful and doted on by Hao Xuan. Zheng'er also treated her like a sister. As her aunt, she was happy to see the only two young masters in the mansion loving each other. She even turned a blind eye to Hao Xuan's wicked thoughts, just so that Zheng'er could smoothly inherit the Hao family mansion.
For the sake of the Hao family, for the sake of her so-called family, she endured and pretended to be blind. She even did her best to arrange Hao Yuchun's marriage, so that Hao Yuchun would have confidence after marriage and so that Hao Xuan could rest assured. But in the end, what did she get? Her only son died at the hands of Hao Xuan's wet nurse, and all her hopes were shattered!
Just yesterday, she was racking her brains over Hao Yuchun's marriage. Now that her son is dead, Hao Yuchun is vomiting in front of his corpse! Why? Everything Hao Yuchun ate, wore, and used was arranged by her, and in the end, she got nothing and even had her dead Zheng'er humiliated like this!
Without Zheng'er, everything is gone. So why should Hao Yuchun be allowed to return all the good things she once took from Zheng'er and gave to her? Why should she recount all the foolish sacrifices she has made over the years?
She shouldn't have done that. Her son's life was taken away, and her husband was also snatched away by Hao Yuchun. What did she do with her life?
Zheng'er died such a humiliating death, why should these people in the Hao family be allowed to live well?
"My Zheng'er, is this really making you so upset? Hao Yuchun, take a good look, what exactly is wrong with Zheng'er?"
Cui Ruliu grabbed Hao Yuchun's hair and dragged her head toward the bed, forcing her to face Hao Zheng directly.
Hao Yuchun had just vomited and felt extremely uncomfortable. Her throat was burning from the stomach acid, and she couldn't speak. Suddenly, Cui Ruliu grabbed her hair, rendering her unable to move. She had no choice but to follow her forward.
Hao Zheng had been dead for less than two hours. His body was still limp and there was no strange smell. But in Hao Yuchun's eyes, this was the next corpse to lie on her. When she looked closer, her head throbbed, and she wished she could faint immediately.
Having endured the horrific ordeal of her past life, Hao Yuchun's heart was hardened to the bone. If she were to kill, she would do it without batting an eye, even if it meant a bloody knife. And if she had many admirers in the future, she wouldn't even need to lift a finger. But now, the person who died was her own brother, and in such a manner. She couldn't imagine what she would do if the Enchantress couldn't absorb his energy in time and drained him dry.
Ultimately, Hao Yuchun had never actually killed anyone, let alone witnessed such a death, especially without any warning. The fear he must have felt was palpable. If he were to look back after some time, perhaps he wouldn't be so easily swayed. That was exactly the effect Xiang Wan wanted.
"Madam, you mustn't! Miss is the master's darling; you absolutely mustn't act impulsively!"
When Gui's mother came in from outside and saw Cui Ruliu's actions, she rushed over to stop her, her anxiety genuine.
Madam Gui understood Hao Yuchun's place in Hao Xuan's heart better than anyone. Even when Hao Yuchun's own mother died, let alone Hao Zheng, Hao Xuan hadn't shown a single sign of sadness. She still remembered how Hao Yuchun had accidentally scraped her knee as a child, drawing blood, and Hao Xuan had the servants who were attending to her beaten to death. She still couldn't forget the horrific scene. If Cui Ruliu made things difficult for Hao Yuchun now, she would likely be the first to be operated on when Hao Xuan returned. After all, she was just a servant; regardless of whose servant she was, failing to stop it made her an accomplice, and her fate would certainly be grim.
Cui Ruliu seemed not to hear Gui Mama's words, and her grip tightened even more, causing blood to seep from Hao Yuchun's scalp, without showing any sign of letting go.
"That bitch deserves to go to hell. My Zheng'er is dead, what else is there to worry about?"
Upon hearing this, Gui's mother turned pale with fright. She hadn't forgotten who had suggested sending Hao Zheng here. Since Cui Ruliu hadn't yet remembered this, it was best to let her vent her anger first. Once she calmed down, she might be able to extricate herself, or at the very least, protect herself.
Madam Gui didn't dare to reach out and rescue Hao Yuchun. She glanced around and saw Xiang Wan hiding in the corner. She immediately turned all her anger towards Xiang Wan.
"Auntie, that girl is still standing there unharmed. She should have been with the young master. Don't let the real culprit get away!"
This tactic of diverting the blame successfully drew Cui Ruliu's attention.
Her fingers loosened slightly, and Hao Yuchun slumped to the ground, struggling to crawl to the side. Right now, all she wanted was to get away from the bed; she didn't care about her hair being messy or anything like that.
Cui Ruliu stared intently at Xiang Wan, like a demon, radiating a chilling aura as she walked towards Xiang Wan step by step.
Xiang Wan was certain that if she stood still, this irrational woman would strangle her to death. When people are in a state of extreme despair and rage, their strength is often several times greater than usual.
One step, two steps, three steps, closer, even closer!
Cui Ruliu's footsteps struck Xiang Wan's heart like a death knell. Her lowered head slowly rose, her pale skin streaked with thick soot around her eyes. Just as Cui Ruliu's fingertips were about to touch Xiang Wan's neck, she suddenly widened her eyes, her blood-red lips parted slightly, and a chilling voice squeezed out, each word distinct, from her throat: "Sister Cui, have you come to avenge me? I died so... tragically..."
A sudden gust of wind blew, ruffling the strands of hair that had fallen on either side of her face and brushing past her lips, as if in response to Xiang Wan's earlier words.
In the shadows, Xiang Wan remained standing upright, without making a sound. The silence was chilling, as if she were a ghost from the underworld, who had died unjustly and had come to claim her life in the mortal realm.
