Chapter 399 The Mystery (Part 7)

"That's true, but the problem is, whose chaos is this, and how did it change? Knowing just this is far from enough. What if what appears isn't human, but something else—like monsters, demons, or zombies…? This system can only help you analyze it, hehe!"

What else could 007 say? Although it knew such a thing existed, it was limited to the user's own use. It had never actually tested how others could use it.

"Speaking of which, Xiang Wan, you didn't really eat that girl, did you?"

The system was uneasy, mainly because its associations were too numerous; it felt uneasy if it didn't ask.

Xiang Wan smacked her lips twice, expressing deep regret: "What a pity, there's only one. I wish there were more, I haven't even tasted it yet."

The expression was so realistic that the system almost believed it.

"However, you probably won't be staying in the hospital for long. I'll take you out to see the world. Keep your eyes peeled, maybe we can catch something big."

Xiang Wan wiped her face, turned and left the bathroom. Sure enough, she found a locker at the entrance of the ward. Opening it, she saw a set of clothes and boots inside, which were the ones she had been wearing at the beginning.

He reached out and took the clothes in his hand, rubbed them between his fingers, and not a single grain of sand remained.

"Speaking of which, Xiao Qi, once we got here, why didn't you wake me up? Did you just watch me get stripped naked and have my head shaved?"

The system doesn't have a physical form, otherwise it would have sneered at Xiang Wan: "You have the nerve to say that! This system has been so dutiful, shouting like crazy as soon as it got here, its voice is hoarse, and you didn't even give a response, not even a brainwave. This system was almost scared to death, you know? It thought your soul had been taken away, and it almost wanted to take them down with it!"

007 rarely gets angry, so Xiang Wan must have been terrified of it. Who knew the system had this kind of awareness?

"Huh? I heard we're one. If I'm gone, how come you're still here?"

The system was taken aback, unsure how to respond. Could it tell its host that it had been afraid of being trapped in this shell forever simply because the host hadn't reacted?

"Hehe, well, this system was just too worried about you and didn't think about our relationship."

Xiang Wan seriously doubted this statement. However, whether it was a blessing or a curse that the system kept in mind was another matter.

She quickly changed out of her hospital gown, put on her bodysuit, and then her boots. Looking around, Xiang Wan felt something was missing, and a chill ran through her.

The system rolled its eyes. With its head completely bald, how could it not be cold?

After tying the hospital gown around her waist, Xiang Wan looked back before leaving the room, feeling that she couldn't just leave like that.

Turning back to the bedside, Xiang Wan removed all the needles and IV tubing, wrapped them in a sheet, carried them on her back, and then left the ward satisfied.

The hallway was empty. Xiang Wan opened each of the other wards one by one, but none of them were occupied, and there was no sign of anyone having lain down in them. Either Li Yu was lying to her, or all of this was simply fading away with time.

Upon arriving at the nurses' station, I found some food, as well as personal belongings such as flashlights and cell phones.

Xiang Wan packed everything up. Before leaving, she thought for a moment, then went to the medical room next door, put on her white coat, and donned a doctor's cap. Seeing a stethoscope on the table, she picked it up.

Having nothing else of value to take, Xiang Wan withdrew and went to the stairwell.

This staircase has several floors going up and several floors going down. In the original owner's memories, she had walked up and down both, and each time it ended in darkness. If that's the case, if she keeps waiting here, she'll eventually turn into darkness too. In that case, why waste her energy? Wouldn't it be better to rest?

Xiang Wan walked back to the nurses' station, found a chair to sit down, took out a bag of instant noodles from her bag, looked around and saw a kettle, so she poured some boiling water into it and made noodles.

While waiting for her instant noodles to cook, Xiang Wan kept observing her surroundings. She didn't know when it had started, but a light mist had begun to rise in the otherwise empty corridor. The only sounds in the corridor were her own breathing and the creaking of her chair.

He quickly ate the instant noodles, then got up and splashed the soup into the depths of the aisle.

There was a splashing sound once, then silence.

Her ward, not far from the nurses' station, was shrouded in a thin mist. Xiang Wan took out a flashlight and slowly moved towards the ward.

The further we walked, the thicker the fog became. The lights in the corridor flickered, and a buzzing sound of electricity came from above.

I turned on the flashlight and shone it upwards, but there was nothing there.

Once inside the fog, Xiang Wan reached out towards her ward, following her memory of the location. She pushed hard, only to find that the door had been locked, and no matter how hard she tried, it wouldn't budge.

I moved closer and shone the light into the window on the door. It was all white and blurry inside; I couldn't see anything clearly.

He kicked it hard, but it was like kicking a wall; he couldn't even hear a hollow sound. Approaching again, the glass in the door was gone; the door had become a solid wall, except for the resemblance to a door.

To confirm her suspicions, Xiang Wan slowly backed away, groping her way to the nurses' station, only to find it empty.

The surrounding lights went out one after another, and a thick, dark fog rolled in from all directions towards evening.

He turned off his flashlight and waited quietly into the evening. After a moment, even the only source of light went out, and the surroundings fell into a deathly silence.
