A hundred meters from the sea, a precipitous rocky platform jutted out. Xiang Wan swam there, lay down, closed her eyes, and let her heartbeat gradually slow down. When she reached her limit of holding her breath and could no longer hold it in, Xiang Wan suddenly scratched a fingerprint into the rock with her hand, then abruptly raised her upper body and gasped for air.
The fishy-sweet air filled his mouth in large gulps, and it took Xiang Wan a full half hour to recover.
This was an abandoned old house, dilapidated and dusty everywhere. And she was sitting in a bathtub filled with sewage.
It was raining outside, and the rainwater dripped from the eaves onto the ground, gradually forming streams that meandered towards the low-lying areas.
The house was leaking everywhere; that's where the water in the bathtub came from.
The wind blew in through the broken windows, swirling up scraps of old newspapers that had fallen to the ground, and then slipped out through the cracks in the wall.
Conversation could be heard coming from the house next door.
"Brother Tree Root, isn't what we're doing a bit too much?"
It was a woman's voice, clear and crisp, yet tinged with a hint of unease.
"What's there to be afraid of? With you, Brother Tree Root, around, the sky won't fall down."
"But, but..."
"Don't worry, as long as you don't say anything and I don't say anything, who will know? We'll get a marriage certificate later, and no one will be able to say anything then."
"Okay, whatever you say."
Then came a rustling and indescribable sound. Xiang Wan stood quietly at the door, staring out the window. She wondered when this carefree couple would notice her.
