Regardless of how furious Qin Rong was upon returning home, Xiang Wan spent the entire afternoon suppressing her laughter. When Madam Li was teaching Qin Rong the zither, Xiang Wan glanced at Qin Rong and nearly burst out laughing, almost breaking the strings. While learning calligraphy, Xiang Wan looked at Qin Rong and trembled from holding back laughter, ruining a perfectly good sheet of paper. These numerous mishaps resulted in a considerable scolding, but nothing dampened Xiang Wan's delight. She seemed to have found a smooth path to tormenting the female lead, secretly thrilled, which drew frequent questioning glances from Xiang Xia.
Xiang Wan thought it best to share happiness with others, since sharing happiness alone is worse than enjoying it alone. That way, if something happened, she would have someone to talk to.
After a few days of leisurely painting, playing the piano, and enjoying life, Xiang Wan discovered that Qin Rong was about to leave the manor. She was quite excited and pulled Xiang Xia aside early in the morning. The two changed into comfortable clothes and followed Qin Rong. Following her alone was much more discreet than doing it alone; too much noise would arouse suspicion. So they waited until Qin Rong was almost out of sight before setting off.
The destination was still the same little riverbank as last time. Xiang Wan was puzzled. Why was the young master Qin Rong liked so strange? Why didn't he go to scenic spots and instead stayed in this godforsaken corner to fish? Was it not for fishing, but for a secret rendezvous?
Qin Rong greeted the young man again, but received no response. She then said, "I apologize for disturbing you today. I shall take my leave now."
Without waiting for the young master to reply, she walked back the way she came, looking left and right as she went.
Upon seeing this, Xiang Wan realized she was in trouble; she had probably been discovered. Without waiting for Xiang Xia to come closer, she pulled Xiang Xia out of their hiding place and stood openly in front of Qin Rong.
"I had no idea that you two sisters had a habit of stalking people?" A confident glint flashed in Qin Rong's eyes, followed by a hint of resentment as she looked at the two of them.
"Oh dear, little sister, you've misunderstood us," Xiang Wan said exaggeratedly. "It's too unsafe for you to go out alone. We're here to protect you. Last time, we were both almost scammed, let alone a weak woman like you."
"How did my sister know I was here?"
"Didn't I say I was here to protect you? Is there something you're hiding that you don't want us to know?"
"I..." Qin Rong was a little annoyed, "I just came here for a walk, there's nothing shameful about it."
"Oh, that's strange. I wonder who was calling me 'young master' just now. The voice even sounds a bit like my sister's!"
Xiang Wan chuckled, secretly pleased to see Qin Rong's face flush red. Xiang Xia was initially a little embarrassed, but after hearing Xiang Wan's words, she couldn't help but want to laugh as well.
"Sister must have misheard. Why don't we go back first and take her out for a walk next time?"
Qin Rong glanced back discreetly and, seeing that the young master seemed not to have heard them, secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She quickly grabbed Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia's wrists, intending to lead them away.
"Hey, we just arrived, we haven't had enough fun yet."
Xiang Wan twisted her wrist, breaking free from Qin Rong's grasp, and strode towards the riverbank.
Qin Rong was anxious and didn't bother to pull Xiang Xia back. She turned around and rushed towards Xiang Wan, saying, "Sister Wan'er, there's nothing fun over there. Let's go back first."
Xiang Wan wasn't about to let her have her way. She dodged to the side and walked towards the riverbank, wanting to see who Qin Rong had her eye on.
She walked a few steps to the man's side, about to speak, when he turned around and smiled at her. Xiang Wan froze instantly. This...this...isn't this the young master who saved her, the only son of the king, Yuan Feng? The male lead of this world has already hooked up with Qin Rong so early?
Xiang Wan said she was completely confused by the plot. In the original owner's memories, Yuan Feng only met Qin Rong after Master Qin passed away. Why is he appearing so early now? What's going on?
"It's only been a short time, and you don't recognize me?"
Yuan Feng's words drifted on the wind, making Xiang Wan's ears ring.
"How could I not recognize you? I, Xiang Wan, have met you before, young master." Xiang Wan was embarrassed for a moment, but quickly recovered and curtsied to Yuan Feng.
Qin Rong had already reached the two of them. Seeing that the man she couldn't get a word in seemed to know Xiang Wan, her face immediately darkened, and she couldn't hide the resentment in her eyes.
Xiang Xia also came over and bowed to her savior.
The group stood silently by the river. Yuan Yi, sensing something was amiss, had already positioned himself behind his master.
"Sister, you...you two knew each other all along, why didn't you tell Rong'er? Rong'er thought...she thought..."
Qin Rong broke the silence, rushing towards Wan with apparent annoyance and scolding her.
"Why should we tell you? What would happen if we didn't?" Xiang Wan replied curiously. "It seems Rong'er didn't tell us she was coming here either. We thought... we thought..."
Xiang Wan copied Qin Rong's tone and expression, leaving Qin Rong speechless and blushing. Yuan Feng chuckled, his deep laughter quite pleasant, but it only made Qin Rong's face appear even more embarrassed.
"Young master, I...I...I didn't mean anything by it, please don't misunderstand!"
Qin Rong explained anxiously, tears welling up in her eyes, threatening to spill but not falling, looking pitiful.
"Young master, Rong'er... Rong'er... she didn't mean anything by it, please don't misunderstand!"
Xiang Wan miraculously replicated Qin Rong's tone and expression. If it weren't for the clear look in her eyes, others would have thought she was also a delicate young woman.
"Hahahaha!" The same expression was endearing on Qin Rong, but when it was replicated on Xiang Wan, Yuan Feng couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Xiang Xia glanced helplessly at Xiang Wan, then chuckled softly, her right hand lightly touching her lips, her eyes crinkling with laughter.
