Chapter 410 The Mystery (18)

Xiang Wan pushed through the crowd gathered at the door and ran outside, only to find his parents in the lobby on the first floor, sitting around a stretcher, tears streaming down their faces.

There were many medical staff rushing around the stretcher towards the emergency room. A familiar leather shoe flashed past. Xiang Wan chased after it and finally saw that familiar face, eyes tightly closed, forehead covered in blood.

The emergency room doors slammed shut, and Xiang Wan stood there, stunned, staring at the red light of the emergency room, unable to react for a moment.

What exactly happened?

Qiu Rui's parents sat hand in hand on a bench, their eyes red-rimmed. Seeing Xiang Wan standing guard at the door, they couldn't help but ask, "Who are you...?"

Xiang Wan turned her head and looked at the two elderly people. Tears streamed down her face like broken beads, and she couldn't stop them.

After Qiu Rui protected her and helped her escape from the explosion, was she also rushed into the emergency room in the same way?

Are his parents also sitting here secretly shedding tears?

Upon seeing her cry, the two elderly people exchanged bewildered glances, then pulled her to sit down on a chair and began to inquire about her condition.

Are you my son's friend?

Xiang Wan nodded, her voice choked with emotion, and said, "My name is Xiang Wan, and I'm your son's girlfriend."

Qiu Rui's parents were astonished. They exchanged a glance and sighed, "Miss Xiang, I think you've made a mistake. My son is already married."

This time, it was Xiang Wan's turn to be surprised.

"Is his name Qiu Rui? Does he run a game company?"

Mr. Qiu nodded, then shook his head. "Son, I understand how you feel, but my son did get married. He fell off the balcony to protect his wife and injured his head."

"Rui'er is so young, he hasn't even had a chance to see his unborn child yet, sigh!"

"Don't be so pessimistic, maybe Rui'er will come out soon."

Overwhelmed with grief, Mr. and Mrs. Qiu's eyes reddened again.

Faced with such a deluge of information, Xiang Wan was somewhat overwhelmed. She couldn't believe that the man who was willing to risk his life for her was already married, and his wife wasn't her!

A series of hurried footsteps approached, and Xiang Wan saw a young woman heavily pregnant, supported by two elderly people, arrive at the emergency room and stand facing the door, tears streaming down her face.

Mr. and Mrs. Qiu got up and kept comforting her.

The woman was heartbroken. After standing for a while, she was helped to sit down opposite Xiang Wan.

She was young and beautiful; compared to her, Xiang Wan had nothing to surpass.

The woman saw her, nodded at her, and assumed she was her husband's colleague.

The surgery lasted for several hours until the light at the door turned green, and the doctor came out to tell the family that there was nothing seriously wrong.

The hospital bed was wheeled out, and Qiu Rui was already awake. The first thing he saw when he saw the pregnant woman filled his eyes with tenderness and love. Xiang Wan stood beside him, his gaze sweeping over her without pausing for even a second, as if he were looking at a stranger.

This person was no longer the one she knew, yet Xiang Wan's heart ached terribly.

The man who once belonged to her has become someone else's husband!

As everyone left, Xiang Wan stood there for a long time, overwhelmed by loneliness.

If Xiang Wan had never experienced his care, she wouldn't have realized how tiring it is to live alone!

If he had never been there for her, Xiang Wan wouldn't have felt that forcing herself to be strong was another kind of loneliness!

If Xiang Wan had never loved, she would never know what it feels like to be loved!

Xiang Wan couldn't imagine what her life would have been like if she hadn't met him!

But all of this turned into sharp knives when she saw that unfamiliar gaze, cutting cruelly into her heart.

Suddenly, I felt a little tired. Why was she pleading so desperately, refusing to let go of that last bit of obsession in her heart?

If she really returns to the real world, and the one she knows best has become someone else, what should she do?

Darkness gathered from all directions, and all sound vanished in that instant.

"Xiang Wan, what's wrong?" the system asked in her mind, its tone slightly uneasy. "Just now, no matter how I called you, you didn't respond at all. I thought you..."

"I'm fine."

Xiang Wan seemed tired, and her tone wasn't good. Seeing this, 007 stopped talking and quietly stayed with her.

She was still in the bottomless pit, the wind still whistling past her ears, the light from the cave walls still shooting upwards rapidly. Xiang Wan's experience just now was like a hallucination created by her own mind; once she woke up, it was gone.

"Xiao Qi, have you ever been afraid of anything?"

I had a vague suspicion in my mind, but it would be better to discuss it with the system before making a decision.

"Isn't that obvious? What could this system be afraid of? I'm just afraid that you might suddenly have a bad idea and want to drag this system down with you."

007 answered quite quickly, and Xiang Wan smiled knowingly, "Do you know what I'm afraid of?"

"Afraid of not being able to go back? Or afraid that he won't wake up?"

"I'm afraid of all of these things. But what I'm most afraid of is that I'll give everything, but still not win back that person's heart."

The system remained silent. It had known all this for a long time, which was why it never joked about this with its host, fearing that she might not be able to persevere.

"Do you remember the room where I first woke up? And the desert, the hospital, the sea, Zuo Mu and Xiao Bao—the things that ordinary people fear most are nothing but fleeting clouds in my heart. Just now, in the scene I experienced, you weren't there. I saw everything in the real world, things that had happened before and things that hadn't yet happened, as if they were right before my eyes. I think the person behind it all probably wanted to release all the fear in my heart, but I changed the path halfway through, and that's how they entered my truest heart."

Now I understand. Simply running away isn't the solution. I'm going to try, even if it means my death, and dragging you down with me. Before making a decision, I want to hear your thoughts.

007 was silent for a moment, then said indifferently, "Relax, this system understands. Just go ahead and do it. What if you succeed? This system is so wise and powerful that if you're gone, it will find another host. The next one will definitely not be someone like you, um, definitely not someone like you."

Xiang Wan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Although the system acted indifferent, she knew that 007 was just trying to alleviate her guilt.

Having witnessed the original owner commit suicide in countless ways, the people behind the scenes were certain she wouldn't choose the same method of death as they remembered. But this was also the biggest flaw in the mystery. When everything becomes commonplace and taken for granted, breaking free from conventional and vague thinking becomes especially crucial.

If none of these work, it's just starting over. Maybe the memory will be erased, maybe I'll die, but if I don't try and get stuck here forever, I might as well take a gamble.

Having made up her mind, Xiang Wan circulated her internal energy, and ice spikes gradually condensed in her hands.

"Xiao Qi, let's record this one last time. If we manage to get out, we might not remember anything, and we might need to use your memory bank."

"good!"
