"Wan'er, isn't what we're doing a bit inappropriate?"
Xiang Xia quietly tugged at Xiang Wan's sleeve and whispered to her.
"It's alright. We were saved by the young master, so we should repay him."
"I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about Qin Rong."
"Hmph, she's always acting suspiciously, I wonder what she's up to. Since she's our benefactor, we can't let Qin Rong screw her over."
"pit…?"
Xiang Xia didn't quite understand what Xiang Wan meant.
"Ah, that's right, it means harming people."
"How could this be? This young master is of noble status and has many subordinates. How could he have been harmed by Qin Rong?"
Xiang Xia also vaguely knew that the young master behind her seemed to be of extraordinary status, and she couldn't let a little girl harm him.
Although Xiang Wan knew Yuan Feng's identity, she didn't explicitly tell Xiang Xia and the Queen Mother, only mentioning his noble status. She did this for two reasons: firstly, Yuan Feng was unwilling to reveal his identity, and she didn't want to interfere; secondly, she feared that if Qin Rong knew, it would prematurely trigger their interaction, potentially harming her future mission. The current situation was perfect; Qin Rong probably only guessed Yuan Feng's extraordinary background and wanted to attract his attention first. If she knew Yuan Feng's true identity, she probably wouldn't have been so easily angered by Xiang Wan.
This made Xia realize that her actions earlier were slightly inappropriate, but it couldn't change Xiang Wan's determination to send Yuan Feng elsewhere. She seemed to enjoy anything that could cause Qin Rong trouble.
"Sister, you don't know, Qin Rong is incredibly shrewd. Last time we were in danger, if it weren't for the young master's rescue, our lives would probably be ruined. Qin Rong completely washed her hands of the matter. Whether she's too clever or I'm too stupid, it doesn't change the fact that we need to be wary of her. Besides, what if she really does get involved with this young master? Will we still have a good life in the future?"
Xiang Wan explained to Xiang Xia in a low voice, glancing back every now and then. Seeing that Yuan Feng seemed to be looking at the scenery as he walked, she couldn't ignore him too much. After finishing her explanation, she slowed down and waited for him to get closer before taking another step forward.
Even the softest whispers of their conversation couldn't outweigh the occasional words carried by the wind as they walked upwind.
Yuan Feng had practiced martial arts since childhood and had sharp ears and eyes. He heard intermittently phrases like "amazing... this life... too stupid... flirting" and found them a little funny. He didn't know what she was thinking, but he found it quite interesting to see her occasional glance back.
Yuan Yi silently followed behind his master, glancing at Xiang Xia's back every now and then. His earlobes turned slightly red as if he was thinking about something.
"How long have you been in Anyang City, young master? Do you still like the scenery here?"
After Xiang Wan finished speaking with Xiang Xia, she slowed down and walked side by side with Yuan Feng.
"The scenery is the same everywhere; what's different is the people who see it."
“What you say makes sense, young master. I suddenly remembered a saying: You are looking at the scenery from the building, while someone else is looking at you from the building. Different people, different scenery.”
"Oh? Tell me about it."
"Look at this river beside you, the flowers, grass, and trees along its banks. Spring comes and autumn goes, time changes, and for many years they have followed the laws of nature, with the scenery remaining largely unchanged. Perhaps at some point, a pair of devoted lovers will pledge their love here, and they will regard that riverbank as a sacred place for the matchmaker. Or perhaps at some point, someone will commit suicide here, and they will regard this place as a place of severing ties. It is clear that what kind of scenery appears in the eyes of what kind of person has nothing to do with the scenery itself, but only with the person's heart."
"Really? Then tell me, what kind of scenery are you seeing now?"
Yuan Feng seemed to be drawn in by Xiang Wan's words. He stopped and looked at Xiang Wan with a smile in his eyes.
Xiang Wan stopped beside a clump of low shrubs and looked around. The river shimmered, with small fish occasionally blowing bubbles. The grass along the riverbank was lush and green, attracting tiny insects with its unidentified wildflowers. Willows drooped to the water, swaying gently in the breeze. Xiang Xia had somehow walked to the willow tree and started to break off a branch, while Yuan Yi watched silently from a short distance away.
Xiang Wan glanced at Xiang Xia, then at Yuan Yi, and immediately remembered it. She casually recited, "Willows, riverside, a pair of backs. One lightly breaks a branch, the other silently gazes. Sculpting a scene, molding a sentiment, but who knows when this sentiment and scene will reappear in the future?"
Xiang Xia seemed to hear Xiang Wan speaking. She turned around, holding the willow branch she had just broken off, and saw that both of them were looking at her, looking somewhat confused. Yuan Yi lowered her head, pretended to cough lightly, and her earlobes turned red.
Yuan Feng chuckled, and his meaningful gaze startled Xiang Wan, making her feel a little embarrassed.
"Hehe, just saying it offhand. Isn't it quite fitting? I've discovered I'm quite quick-witted, young master, don't you think?"
Xiang Wan's teasing remark left the man flustered. Yuan Feng glanced at him with amusement, ignoring his pleading look, and turned to talk to Xiang Wan again.
"How long will you be staying in Anyang City, young master? How about I treat you to a simple meal? I haven't had a chance to properly thank you for saving me last time."
"Fu Lai Xuan?"
Yuan Feng, ever the one to bring up the most awkward topics, made Xiang Wan feel slightly embarrassed as soon as he mentioned the restaurant's name. Although Anyang City wasn't large, this was her first time eating at a restaurant since her last trip, and she had been ripped off. She didn't know where to find a restaurant for the time being.
"Young master, was your visit to that restaurant last time related to these human traffickers?"
"Well, you could say that."
“Then I won’t embarrass myself by offering to host you. You can choose any restaurant you like, and I’ll pay the bill.” Xiang Wan patted her chest generously and said, “My family owns a clothing store called Crystal Love. If you don’t mind, you can have some clothes custom-made there, and I’ll give you a 20% discount.”
