Chapter 443 Past Lives and Present Lives (Part 9)

"Ouyang Xiangwan, what exactly do you mean?"

Upon arriving at the pavilion, they let go of each other's hands and looked into each other's eyes.

"Hey, Dr. Xiao, why are you angry? I said I wanted to find a father for my child, why are you angry? Don't you want my child to have a father who loves him?" Xiang Wan asked in surprise.

"You!" Xiao Ming realized that he could no longer be calm with Xiang Wan. He would fly into a rage after just a few words. Where was his former self-control? Where was his self-cultivation?

"She's still a child."

"So, you should find a father as early as possible, otherwise the child will no longer need him once she grows up."

I reached out and pinched a flower from the branch in my hand, then brought it to my nose to smell its delicate fragrance.

Looking at the woman before him, Xiao Ming recalled their university days. She had said she wanted to go to the peach blossom grove, and he, taking some time out of his busy schedule, accompanied her on her wanderings. She was so excited, running and jumping around in the grove like a child. She had asked him to take pictures, and he remembered it vividly—it was her blissful expression as she picked the flowers and smelled their fragrance that touched his heart. Countless times in his dreams, he saw her vibrant face and the dappled sunlight streaming into her eyes as she turned back.

The current Xiang Wan is much more mature than she was back then. She has shed her naivety and gained a womanly charm, but she still loves to smell flowers.

If they hadn't argued, maybe now...

Xiao Ming suppressed his thoughts; reality was reality, and they had already separated.

"How have you managed all these years?"

Looking back in the evening, a subtle smile played on her lips, full of nonchalance. "Further studies, raising children, running a clinic—not bad at all."

Xiao Ming turned his head and frowned. This woman dismissed him with just a few words?

When talking about her child, Xiang Wan suddenly became excited, "My baby, doesn't she look just like me? She's been so well-behaved since she was little, so sensible and smart. She's never given me any trouble at school, and she's so cute. I wonder which boy will end up with her. Just thinking about it breaks my heart."

Xiao Ming was speechless. The topic had jumped so quickly. He himself hadn't even grown up yet, and he was already taking care of a child.

Why didn't you come to find me?

"Huh?" Xiang Wan turned her head. "I'm having my own child, why would I need to talk to you?"

Ha, this woman, she could have given birth to a child on her own without him.

"you!"

“Dr. Xiao, there are many ways a woman can get pregnant and give birth. Don’t take the blame on yourself. You’re not planning to be the father of my child, so your concern for her makes me feel really bad.”

Sorry my foot! You're incredibly shameless.

Seeing that Xiang Wan didn't react at all to his words, Xiao Ming couldn't help but feel annoyed. Back in school, this woman was incredibly shameless; no matter how he hinted or suggested, she would pretend not to understand. He was puzzled as to how he had fallen for her trick.

After the divorce, I thought she would change. Now it seems she really has; she's become even more shameless than before.

Taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly, Xiao Ming's brows furrowed. "How did you know I would come here today?"

Xiang Wan raised an eyebrow. "Hmm? Didn't you know I was here and deliberately follow me here?"

Xiao Ming's face stiffened, unsure how to respond.

"Dr. Xiao, one should be more honest. If you want to see me, just say so. My phone number has never changed."

Just because things haven't changed doesn't mean he'll fight.

When we got divorced, I had already blocked her number. I deliberately didn't mention it for five years, for fear that I would be unable to resist calling her.

Judging from her appearance, she seems to be doing well. Could it be that she was just feeling unwell and deliberately made an appointment with him, leaving behind a photo that leaves room for speculation?

No, he couldn't voice his suspicions. She might be waiting for him to take the bait and laugh at him. She'd used this tactic with masterful skill back in the day. He wasn't a student anymore; he wasn't that naive.

"Go home early. It's getting late, and it's not safe for a single woman to be out alone."

"Who said I'm single?" Xiang Wan's eyes widened. "You really want me to be single?"

Xiao Ming's eyelids throbbed with anger. He realized this woman was becoming increasingly adept at making excuses. Whether she was single or not was obvious to anyone with eyes; did she really think she could fool him?

"I have a baby too. Compared to you, it goes without saying who's single."

Xiang Wan smiled broadly, showing no awareness whatsoever of touching Xiao Ming's sore spot.

Xiao Ming's face darkened even more. He was single and didn't know who had caused this trouble, yet they still had the nerve to say it here.

"Finding a partner is a piece of cake, it's just..."

"But what? Haven't you found someone you like? Or haven't found someone more understanding than me?"

"Can't you think before you speak? We've already separated. Don't talk to me like that, it'll make people think I was the one who filed for divorce."

The conversation suddenly stopped. A gentle breeze blew by, and a few pink petals drifted down, passing through the two of them and landing silently at their feet.

Xiang Wan turned her back to Xiao Ming, looking dejected; she had lost all interest in picking flowers.

It turns out that Xiao Ming had been holding a grudge about the divorce.

For someone who has never lacked suitors, being suddenly abandoned must be incredibly painful. He didn't settle for just anyone after being dumped. Part of the reason was that no one else would do anything as shameful as the original owner did to win his heart. Another reason, perhaps even Xiao Ming himself wasn't aware of, was that during the time the original owner was pursuing him, his heart had already been completely captured by her. It was only because his pride was wounded that he was unwilling to confront the pain and examine himself, leading to a lifelong regret.

Sometimes, people, for the sake of face and dignity, often ignore their truest thoughts deep in their hearts, burying them in a forgotten corner, so that when they recall them later, they become their deepest regrets and greatest remorse.

"Xiao Ming, you have no idea how happy it is to pursue someone you like. Even if others think that person is ridiculous or shameful, she is always happy inside."

Xiang Wan glanced at Xiao Ming, then picked up the umbrella that was placed to the side, folded it up, and clenched it tightly in her palm.

"If you want to know why I insisted on getting a divorce, you are welcome to come to me anytime."

Xiang Wan placed the business card in Xiao Ming's jacket pocket, then took out the sunglasses tucked into her collar and put them on. She waved goodbye, leaving without a trace.

Watching her figure disappear into the woods, Xiao Ming blinked twice, took the business card out of his pocket, and stared at it for a long time.

The baby has come home, and the Ouyang couple are preparing dinner for her.

The door opened, and the baby put down the toys in her hand and rushed into Xiang Wan's arms.

"Mom, did you go to find my dad?"

With a loud bang, the two elderly people who were busy in the kitchen stopped cooking and came to her in front of her, wearing aprons and looking at her with a questioning expression.

They couldn't help but be nervous. In their eyes, Gao Qiming was already their prospective son-in-law, and they couldn't understand their daughter's actions. They had to find out the truth first.
