Chapter 444 Past Lives and Present Lives (Part 10)

"Dad, Mom, I know what you mean, but Gao Qiming and I are not suitable."

After dinner, Xiang Wan coaxed her child into the house to sleep, then brought out a pot of tea and sat down on the sofa with the Ouyang couple for a chat.

The original owner never allowed Gao Qiming to have too much contact with her parents, fearing that the two elders would overthink things. Seeing him once a year at her birthday party was already enough, but she didn't expect it to still make the elderly couple overthink.

“Daughter, we’re not trying to stop you, we just want to hear your thoughts.”

The Ouyang couple were quite open-minded parents; they never interfered too much in Xiang Wan's affairs, only offering help when she needed it. Therefore, it was essential for Xiang Wan to make these open-minded parents understand that her decision wasn't just a whim.

"I want to try and see if we can get back together."

Xiang Wan wasn't joking; the Ouyang elders had already seen through it. They exchanged a glance and said nothing more.

After Xiang Wan finished get off work, Tang Xin'er cornered her in the outpatient clinic office.

Ever since learning that Xiang Wan had no intention of taking her relationship with Gao Qiming further, Tang Xin'er would seize any opportunity to approach her, either asking her out for tea or dragging her to pamper herself with treatments. And each time, they would coincidentally run into Gao Qiming. Xiang Wan would never believe that Tang Xin'er wasn't involved.

Xiang Wan appreciated her best friend's good intentions. However, no matter how good Gao Qiming was, she still had to complete her mission. Besides, the target of her pursuit wasn't someone she particularly disliked, so she didn't intend to change her approach.

"Xin'er, stop criticizing me. What about you? You still don't have a steady boyfriend. What are you trying to do? Do you really want to be an old maid and have your darling take care of you in your old age?"

After sending her assistant home, Xiang Wan closed the door and tidied up the clinic with Tang Xin'er, also making a list of things that needed to be repurchased.

"Me? I haven't had enough fun yet. I don't want to end up like you, tied down by kids so early and unable to go anywhere. Life is so long, I have to have my fill of fun before settling down with someone."

Aren't your parents worried?

"They'd love for me to have more fun for a few more years, so I don't end up with other men too soon."

"I really envy you."

"Sometimes I'm quite envious of you. Your baby is so cute, I want to have one too."

"My baby likes you a lot, saying you're fun and pretty. How about I take care of you for a few days?"

"Great, great, I've wanted to do it for a while now, but you wouldn't let me before."

"I'm just afraid you'll lose my baby. With your playful nature, who would feel comfortable entrusting the child to you?"

"Don't be so mean, I'm responsible for this. If my baby were with me, I would dress her up beautifully every day."

"How about I come over for a weekend getaway and stay at your place for one night?"

"That's great, I love you so much."

Xiang Wan smiled and shook her head.

Many people like children, but only when they are sensible, well-behaved, cute, and healthy. They are only interested in the novelty of it all. Little do they know how tiring it is to actually take care of a child's eating, drinking, and toileting every day.

As a novice, Xiang Wan had no experience with the trivialities of raising a baby. Now, she is busy every day with what the child should wear and eat, when to go to school and when to take the child to play. It seems that her whole life revolves around the child.

But over time, once it became a habit, I actually started to enjoy it. Every day when I open my eyes, there's a little person beside me softly calling "Mommy," following behind me doing little things, someone to accompany me when I go out and come home. Sometimes, when there's no one around to bother her, I actually feel quite unaccustomed to it.

Early Saturday morning, Tang Xiner and Gao Qiming went to pick up their baby.

Xiang Wan had already packed the children's belongings, and prepared some of their favorite foods and a doll for them to sleep with before letting them go out.

When I arrived at the dental clinic, the assistant was already sitting there.

Seeing that there wasn't much going on at the clinic, Xiang Wan simply gave her a day off so she could have time to buy some things for her parents.

The young assistant was very happy. After handing over his work, he picked up his bag and walked out the door.

Xiang Wan watched her walk to the street corner, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a familiar figure holding something in his hand, looking at the shops next to him as he walked.

I didn't expect Xiao Ming to find me so quickly.

Xiang Wan hung up the "Do Not Disturb" sign at the outpatient clinic and went inside to change her clothes.

After she finished tidying up, there was a knock on the glass door.

Xiao Ming's tall figure was reflected on the gate. He looked closer and saw Xiang Wan come out. He took a step back, put his hands at his sides, and waited for Xiang Wan to open the door for him.

"The door isn't locked, come in."

Xiang Wan poured herself a glass of water, went to the front desk, and put the outpatient records into the drawer.

Xiao Ming pushed open the door and walked in.

The clinic was small, divided into an outer room and an inner room. The outer room served as the reception area and meeting room, along with a professional dental cleaning kit and a dental chair. The inner room was Xiang Wan's office, used to store various materials and valuables, as well as her computer equipment.

"sit."

I poured another glass of water and placed it on the table.

Xiao Ming sat down, and Xiang Wan pushed the water in front of him, then sat down opposite him.

"This is your clinic?"

Sitting in the chair, Xiao Ming did not forget to look around.

"It's a bit basic, but the equipment is top-notch. Dr. Xiao, if you ever have a toothache or need a cleaning, you can come to me, and I'll give you a discount."

"Discount?"

"Hmm, since we're acquaintances, I'll give you a 5% discount, um.

Xiao Ming frowned; this was far too stingy.
