"Mom, that uncle is here again. He's so annoying."
Ever since that class reunion, Xiao Ming has made time to visit Xiang Wan and Bao Bei from time to time.
Her address was given to her by the Ouyang elders. Knowing Xiang Wan's attitude, and seeing how respectful Xiao Ming always was when he visited, his hands never idle, Xiao Ming eventually gave in to her persistent pleading and told her what Xiang Wan had instructed them to say.
Here's what happened: When Xiao Ming asked for her current address, Xiang Wan didn't answer immediately, only giving a vague answer. Considering his limited vacation time, but not wanting him to search aimlessly like a headless fly, she went home and discussed it with the Ouyang elders.
“Mom and Dad, if Xiao Ming comes, don’t stop him from coming in. If he’s nice and doesn’t leave empty-handed, be friendly and tell him your address after a few times. If he’s not nice, just kick him out and don’t worry about saving face.”
"This, this isn't right, we're all civilized people." Ouyang's father glanced at Xiang Wan, somewhat uncertain.
“Dad, what goes around comes around. I’ve been chasing him for so long, I should make him chase me once.”
Aren't you afraid he won't come?
"Don't worry, he won't."
Even if she did, Xiang Wan had other tricks up her sleeve to get Xiao Ming to come to her. She hadn't even used the dream-weaving technique she'd finally acquired, so she didn't know how effective it would be.
Of course, Xiang Wan's skill wasn't entirely useless. No matter how many times she hinted or suggested it, Xiao Ming remained as stubborn as a wooden post, refusing to propose. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she resorted to her dream-weaving technique.
In his dream, Xiang Wan was the woman Xiao Ming longed for but could not have. Every time they were about to walk down the aisle, other men would come to stop them. Seeing her walking away hand in hand with another man, Xiao Ming wanted to chase after her but couldn't, and he broke out in a sweat in frustration.
Not long after, Xiang Wan received a romantic marriage proposal.
The child pouted, watching her own mother being proposed to while the people around her kept cheering, and she was furious.
But why bring her along when it's a proposal to adults? Maybe they'll reluctantly agree because the gift is a princess dress she likes. At least when she goes to kindergarten, they'll have something to brag about—she'll be the first person to witness her parents' romantic moment.
The night before her wedding, Xiang Wan went to the hospital.
It's hard to describe the feeling of watching someone lying by the bedside waiting for them to wake up.
"Xiao Qi, why can I see myself? If my mission had been completed any later, would he have been sent abroad?"
The system scoffed, "Is that even a question? Time always moves forward. The earth keeps spinning even when you're not here."
That makes sense, but why should a system be able to transcend time and be unrestricted by time and space?
She couldn't understand this problem; the existence of a system in itself was enough to make people puzzled.
How much longer can I stay here?
How long do you want to stay?
The system was a little confused. It had been notified beforehand, so did the host not want to leave? This wouldn't do; staying here would lead to serious trouble.
“Let me tell you, if you don’t leave, his soul can’t gather, and he’ll have to lie there for the rest of his life. Can you bear that?”
Why does it seem like the system is more anxious than she is?
Since the system is in a hurry, does that mean she doesn't need to be in a hurry?
The thought flashed by in an instant, but the system caught it anyway, making me so angry I wanted to scratch the wall.
"Do you have any sense of responsibility? Who is this system for? If you dare to quit, believe me, this system will directly turn all those souls that we painstakingly collected into energy!"
"Hey, don't be like that, it was just a joke." Xiang Wan quickly stroked her hair.
Then she realized that she was just thinking about it in her head. Didn't the system promise not to spy on her?
"What happens when you break your promise?" Xiang Wan changed the subject.
"What could possibly happen? She'll just perish." The system said dismissively.
"I don't think I let you eavesdrop on my thoughts just now, did I?"
007 fell silent for a moment, then said angrily, "With such a loud brainwave, is this system eavesdropping? It's clearly listening openly and honestly."
Xiang Wan thought about it and realized it was really hard to tell. Whether her brainwaves were strong or not couldn't be determined by mere conjecture, unless there were instruments available.
However, according to the system, does it also need to listen to brainwaves to know what she is thinking?
"If you can listen to my brainwaves, you can definitely listen to other people's brainwaves. Xiao Qi, you're not being honest."
The system froze. It hadn't expected this; it had inadvertently betrayed itself. Another feature had been discovered. Would it still be able to blatantly slack off in the future?
"Not everyone can hear it. This system is inside your head, so of course it can sometimes receive some brainwaves. But don't expect this system to listen to other people's brainwaves, it's very energy-consuming, you know?"
She was making excuses again, but she still wanted to get closer to him so that it could see if he had any brainwaves.
"Really not?"
"Is this system the kind of system that's deceiving people? You have to believe me, everyone in this world can lie to you, but this system won't."
"All right."
Neither saying it was good nor bad, 007 was a little unsure whether the host had taken it to heart. Why did he feel inexplicably guilty?
"Xiang Wan, what are you doing here? Are you sick?" Gao Qiming turned his head to look at the visiting window, then at Xiang Wan, and frowned.
Xiang Wan sighed and shook her head, saying, "It's just a lament that life is so unpredictable and fragile."
"That's good," Gao Qiming said seriously. "I thought you were going to do something rash and go back to your old ways. This guy pursued you for years, but you never agreed. At this crucial moment, don't cause any more trouble. Your ex-husband can't handle the mess."
