Chapter 469 The Princess is Above (Part 11)

"What did you say?"

Cheng Yuqing turned around abruptly and asked in a trembling voice.

Fifteen years have passed, but he will always remember the image of his father in battle armor, mounting his horse and waving back at him. That vivid image has never faded from his mind.

Countless times, he would wake up in a fright from his dreams to see that figure replaced by blood, his father’s face covered in bloodstains, but the spear in his hand never fell.

When the devastating news arrived, his mother fell ill and passed away less than ten days later. If it weren't for his grandfather raising him single-handedly, how could he have possibly emerged from the shadow of losing both his father and mother?

Over the years, he had long accepted the heroic story of his father dying on the battlefield and sacrificing his life for his country. But now, this girl in front of him told him that his father did not die in an accident!

Beyond disbelief, Cheng Yuqing was filled with utter rage.

She was younger than him, not even of marriageable age yet. How could she know something he didn't even know? She must be lying to him, she must be!

Say it again!

Cheng Yuqing was burning with rage, gritting her teeth.

You can joke about him, but you can't joke about his family, otherwise...!

Xiang Wan was stunned. She had intended to joke that it was something she had dreamed about. But seeing Cheng Yuqing's strong reaction, she became serious.

The enemy used this incident to provoke General Cheng, causing him to direct his anger towards the palace, thus giving those with ulterior motives an opportunity to take advantage.

However, now that Cheng Yuqing is still alive in the princess's residence, who knows what other trouble those people might cause. She must let the Cheng family know the truth in advance so they don't fall into someone else's trap.

“Cheng Yuqing, I’m telling you, your father, Cheng Fang, did not die in an accident.”

Xiang Wan slowly and seriously brought up the topic again, emphasizing each word.

Cheng Yuqing gave Wan a deep look, her voice icy, "You know, if you lie to me, you won't survive tonight, I guarantee it!"

Xiang Wan snorted coldly, her temper rising, "With your meager strength, instead of going after your real enemies, you're arguing with a weak woman like me. Is that very manly?"

Cheng Yuqing was inwardly shocked and believed it to be seven or eight parts, but she showed no sign of it on her face.

"After you've finished eating, go back and rest early."

Knowing he was getting restless and eager to find out the truth, Xiang Wan was reluctant to let him leave now. She didn't want to sit alone in the pavilion in the wind; she had just eaten so many pastries and needed to digest first, so she needed someone to keep her company.

"Aren't you curious about what kind of poison you've been given?"

If we can't talk about General Xiancheng, can we at least talk about Cheng Yuqing's poison?

"It can be solved; no one will die."

Cheng Yuqing's words were concise and to the point: since the poison could be cured anyway, why bother about what kind of poison it was?

“I once read a book of miscellaneous notes, but I’ve forgotten the title. However, it described a poison that is very similar to your current symptoms. What was it again? Let me think…” Xiang Wan frowned, glanced at the moon, slapped her forehead, and said, “Oh, it’s like this. There is a plant that looks like a weed, but it emits a faint fragrance every time the moon rises.”

"This plant neither flowers nor bears fruit, and it is inconspicuous. After consumption, there are no obvious symptoms. Only after years of continuous consumption, reaching a certain quantity, will it suddenly erupt under the scorching sun. At that time, the person who has consumed this herb will faint, feel weak all over, and black blood will gush from their throat, mouth, and nose."

"If it's vomited out, it's fine. But if the poisoned person is still unconscious, the congealed blood will block their breathing, causing them to suffocate. After the person dies, the blood stops flowing, and the poison will naturally dissipate, so even the coroner won't be able to detect it. The final test result will only be death by suffocation."

Xiang Wan clapped her hands and said slyly, "In that case, it wouldn't be too much to offer yourself in return. Be nice to this princess in the future, and maybe I'll remember what this grass is called and where it comes from."

Cheng Yuqing was terrified and didn't know what to think for a moment.

From the moment he met this person, he had always thought he was unlucky to have encountered a spoiled, willful, unreasonable, and liar princess, and that he was poisoned because he was careless and had fallen into someone's trap. Now it seems that things are not as simple as he thought.

However, the possibility of him being tricked cannot be ruled out.

"I will investigate. If what you say is true, I will definitely repay you."

Even though he was reluctant, Cheng Yuqing was an upright man who always repaid kindness and would never disregard gratitude because of his emotions.

"Three days. If you can't find out in three days, then I'll admit I'm blind and have overestimated you."

Three slender, white fingers stretched out, gleaming like jade in the moonlight.

Cheng Yuqing was momentarily stunned by what she saw, and only when Xiang Wan withdrew her hand did she come to her senses and nod stiffly.

Afterwards, the two sat upright for a while before returning to their respective courtyards.

Cheng Yuqing tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Her mind kept replaying her father's image and Xiang Wan's words. She didn't close her eyes all night.

Xiang Wan slept soundly, but before falling asleep, she felt like she had forgotten something. She couldn't remember it for a moment, so she let it go.

Until morning...

"Princess, Princess, sob sob sob! How could you leave me alone in the Princess's residence? You took Physician Zhao but not me! My heart is so cold, Princess!"

Xiang Wan was bombarded with horrifying noises early in the morning. She turned over and tried to go back to sleep, but Cai Die woke her up.

The little girl's eyes were red and swollen, and she looked extremely aggrieved.

Xiang Wan felt a little guilty. She had indeed completely forgotten about him, which explained why she felt something was missing from her side last night.
