"Please check if the room I booked is occupied."
"Okay, please wait a moment."
In the lobby on the first floor, Lou Junxuan waited for the front desk to check the information while scanning the interior design of various parts of the restaurant, nodding as he looked.
Despite growing up in City H, he basically lives at home or finds a nearby place to relax when his business doesn't involve crossing provincial borders. His subordinates, however, often mention this star-rated hotel located in the nearby suburbs.
Compared to other places, this place is alright, but compared to international grand hotels, it's far inferior.
A short while later, the front desk informed him that two rooms had already been booked and asked if he wanted to book one.
Lou Junxuan frowned slightly and nodded in agreement, but in his heart he was thinking to himself, why didn't He Yi tell him about this? It seems that he has been a little too relaxed lately.
He Yi, who had just returned home and hadn't even had a sip of hot tea, suddenly sneezed and quickly closed his windows.
I went upstairs and followed the waiter to the room door. Just as I was about to swipe my card to go in, the door next to me opened.
Xiang Wan, dressed neatly, was about to go downstairs to get something to eat when someone grabbed her arm before she could even close the door. As she turned around, she was pulled back inside.
The door was kicked shut with a bang.
The waiter, who hadn't gone far down the aisle, felt his heart pounding and quickly walked a few steps downstairs to report to the manager.
I've seen plenty of cases like this, like catching adulterers, gamblers, and drug dealers. Two grown men dragged each other into the room, and the atmosphere was clearly off. It was either a fight or something else. If something went wrong, the manager would be furious.
The waiter's expression clearly showed he was thinking something inappropriate, but Xiang Wan didn't care about that at all.
This was the first time Lou Junxuan had entered her room so openly. Wasn't it said that he and the original owner of the body had a bad relationship? Was he here to catch them cheating?
Having been pulled in, Xiang Wan hadn't taken more than a few steps when she swung her arm, breaking free from Lou Junxuan's large hand. She crossed her arms and leaned against the wall, saying sarcastically, "Lou Junxuan, you've been disappointed, haven't you?"
Upon hearing this, Lou Junxuan felt a tightness in his chest.
"Lou Xiangwan, you should stop now. If you continue down this path of depravity, you will only ruin yourself."
"Hmph, depraved?" Xiang Wan flicked her index finger aside a stray hair from her forehead and said casually, "If I didn't do this, your old man would be worried that I would steal your identity, your status, and even the entire Lou family's assets. Your dear mother would be thinking about how to get rid of me and clear the way for you..."
With a loud "smack," the blow landed squarely on Xiang Wan's face. Her mask was slapped off one ear, and her cheek, which had been slightly swollen, swelled up again at a visible speed.
Along with the swelling in her cheeks rose feelings of grievance, sadness, and unspeakable bitterness—the original owner's emotions were fermenting.
Xiang Wan's head remained at the angle it had been from after being slapped, her eyes slightly red, yet she stubbornly refused to turn around.
Lou Junxuan felt bad after beating Xiang Wan, but he didn't regret it. Even though the Lou family hadn't fulfilled their parenting responsibilities for the first ten years, they hadn't mistreated Lou Xiang Wan in the slightest. For that reason alone, he absolutely wouldn't allow Lou Xiang Wan to slander her father and mother like that.
"Do you have any conscience at all? Your father didn't know you existed before, but he still accepted you later, didn't he? Your mother didn't mistreat you in the slightest either. Why can't you think about the good they've done for you?"
"Fine? Lou Junxuan, how could you, a pampered young master who's been raised in luxury since childhood, know the pain of living under someone else's roof? This is your home, don't drag me into it!"
Xiang Wan felt a pang of pain in her heart. In the original owner's memory, the word "home" was something that could only be longed for but never reached.
He once had high hopes for this family, but those hopes were completely extinguished by repeated disappointments.
In terms of food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, Lou Junxuan certainly didn't lack anything, but he always had to give orders. His so-called biological father, Lou Jing, never cared about anything.
Going to school, choosing a school, hobbies, and playing were all arranged by Lou Junxuan. As for his mother, Shen Xiangmei, she advised Lou Junxuan more than once behind his back not to treat this half-brother with sincerity, and the original owner of the body overheard them.
It's ridiculous, isn't it? The original owner was a burden. Even though raising him wouldn't cost much money or require much effort, he was still disliked by everyone.
Therefore, the original owner's stubborn desire to be independent, to earn money to support himself, and to choose his own life became what Lou Junxuan saw as rebellion, filial impiety, and disobedience. He cut off Lou Junxuan's source of income, yet the original owner appeared in front of him again and again.
The original owner's feelings towards Lou Junxuan were very complicated. She hated his self-righteousness, but she would think of him when she was vulnerable. When she actually faced him, she couldn't help but push him away with the most vicious words.
Even on his deathbed, all he could think about was Lou Junxuan's figure, holding his hand and leading him into that house.
A tear slid down her cheek, but Xiang Wan stubbornly refused to wipe it away, letting it drip onto the floor, splashing up tiny droplets, just like the original owner's heart that had been shattered by the Lou family.
Lou Junxuan was stunned. This was the first time he had ever seen Xiang Wan cry, and a wave of sorrow rose from his heart.
"Xiang Wan, since you don't want to go back, I won't force you. I just hope you won't go astray, so you won't regret it in the future."
With her tone softened, Xiang Wan remained silent.
Lou Junxuan walked around the room, took a card out of his pocket, and placed it on the table. "This is a supplementary credit card. Take it. If you need to buy anything, you can..."
"Lou Junxuan, are you pitying me?" Xiang Wan turned her head, her previous unruly demeanor returning.
