"Red Star, is this the end?"
Standing in front of the ship's large screen, watching the enormous figures struggling in their death throes as the crumbling clods of earth gradually drifted into space, everyone couldn't help but sigh.
Xiang Wan and the others exerted all their strength to pull George and the energy crystal into the ship. After the hatch was closed, everything outside dispersed as the Red Star's gravity disappeared.
They sailed their ships out of the Genesis, following the path they had come from. With the aid of thermal weapons and condensation bombs, they blasted open the outer wall of the Genesis and escaped into space.
Long before the mutated behemoth attacked Genesis, there were no signs of human activity on Crimson Star. When the Guardians withdrew, they left behind not a single energy crystal, except for the one hidden deep within Genesis used to maintain Crimson Star's gravity.
Watching the place where you once lived being destroyed in less than a week is hard for anyone to bear.
The military abandoned the area after small-scale attacks by behemoths on human settlements; otherwise, it wouldn't have been destroyed so quickly, resulting in so many deaths and injuries, leading to its current state of complete extinction.
But on the other hand, this is also a good thing. At least, none of those behemoths escaped their fate of suffocation.
Everyone stared silently in the same direction, finally fixing their gaze on the Genesis Base, which had been exposed by the falling soil.
A single, oval-shaped creation, not much smaller than the Red Star, resembled a metallic egg radiating a cold light, reflecting a dazzling brilliance under the sun's rays.
"How could this be..." Rose murmured to herself as she looked ahead.
Given such a large experimental base, why not allow humans to hide inside? Why choose to abandon it?
She had a strong urge to question General Osa, the supreme commander guarding this solar system, about why he had abandoned an entire planet's population, leaving them to perish inside monsters.
Rose wasn't the only one; Song Yang and Jean felt the same way. Tens of thousands of people had vanished into the universe. Where had that army, which had sworn to protect the Rainbow Twin Solar System to the death, gone?
Takagi gazed at Genesis with a burning desire, his eyes flickering as if he had an urge to return.
Xiang Wan knew what he wanted to do; he simply wanted to take some biological specimens for research purposes.
Did he think that anyone could just take what was inside?
"Alright, get ready for battle."
"What!"
Everyone stared at Xiang Wan in disbelief, not understanding why she had given such an order. They had just escaped with their lives and hadn't even had time to marvel at their survival.
"Having discovered such a huge secret, do you think they'll let us leave alive?"
Everyone felt a chill run down their spines.
They were already finding it hard to accept being abandoned by the military, but they never expected that something even worse was yet to come.
"Perhaps, we can ask them..."
"Surrender?" Xiang Wan stared at everyone, finally fixing her gaze on Gao Mu. "Genesis has existed for quite some time. Have we ever heard a single word about it? Where have all its former researchers and insiders gone?"
Xiang Wan ruthlessly extinguished any remaining hope in everyone's hearts, leaving no room for doubt.
The military they were referring to, the army led by Osa, could abandon even innocent people who knew nothing about it. How could they possibly give a way out to people like them who directly exposed the true face of creation?
The group exchanged silent glances, and then returned to their seats without saying a word.
George came to Xiang Wan's side, held her hand tightly, and his determined eyes said it all.
Xiang Wan smiled, patted his head, and gave him an approving look.
After everyone was ready, Xiang Wan pointed out the next location directly to Rose.
They've made such a commotion that Osa might not know about it for a while, which is Xiang Wan and the others' chance to escape.
Like Earth's solar system, the baseline solar system, the Rainbow Twin Solar System also has several planets orbiting the sun. On the closest planet, there is a temporary contact point for Osa, which is also a military base. There are not many people stationed there. If they can destroy it before they send out the message, then Xiang Wan can transfer to their ships and leave the Rainbow Twin Solar System.
Escape ships, being products from decades ago, are not suitable for traversing black holes or for long-term flight in space. Like lifeboats on ships, they can only be used to temporarily save lives.
Even with the massive energy crystal, operating the rescue vessel to the nearest planet was hampered by aging equipment and outdated facilities, and its speed was incomparable to that of modern ships. Replacing the vessel became an essential task.
The crew maneuvered the rescue ship around to the back of the planet, then turned off all the lights and detection equipment, leaving only the two thrusters, and proceeded along the planet's surface toward the military base.
At regular intervals on the ground, a detector is placed, and no moving object can escape its detection.
Solving the problem of avoiding detection is quite difficult. Lifeboats lack robotic arms, and their weaponry is primarily defensive. While weapons inside the ship could be used, that would require opening the hatches and exposing someone directly to the cold, unwelcome combat vessel – akin to throwing an egg against a rock.
After instructing everyone to moor the ship in a relatively spacious open area, Xiang Wan had them all put on protective suits, grab their weapons, disembark, and find a place to hide. Then, she deliberately destroyed the nearest sensor.
