"Cough cough, please have mercy, give me some food... cough cough cough..."
A hunched figure, leaning on a cane, staggered towards evening.
As they got closer, they could see clearly that it was an old woman with a face full of wrinkles, somewhat resembling Ah Niu's mother, but twenty or thirty years older.
"Young man, I haven't eaten in a long time, please give me something... cough cough cough..."
The old man reached out shakily; a broken porcelain bowl filled with mud.
Xiang Wan reached into her chest, pulled out something, and tossed it into her bowl. "Eat up, don't be shy!"
The object fell into the porcelain bowl with a "clang," and immediately began to emit black smoke and a pungent smell.
"Young man, be careful not to suffer retribution for making fun of an old man."
The old man stared intently at Xiang Wan, his face dripping foul-smelling, murky yellow fluid onto the ground.
"Since you are no longer human, why cling to the human world?"
The exorcising sword was drawn and pierced the old man's heart.
The old man did not fall down, nor did he change anything else. Instead, he raised his head, and his eerie smile grew wider and wider.
"Eeya—"
A sharp scream emanated from the corpse, and the surrounding temperature instantly dropped by more than ten degrees, as if winter had arrived instantly. At the same time, the fog in the air grew thicker and thicker, obscuring everything within sight to less than half a meter.
"Ahhh! Murder! Murder!"
Suddenly someone screamed and ran away behind her. Xiang Wan turned around and saw a little girl running past quickly.
With the sword drawn and sheathed, the old man's body fell to the ground and was instantly swallowed by the thick fog.
Xiang Wan closed her eyes and used her spiritual sense to find her way. She quickly spotted several figures hidden in the thick fog. When she gave chase, the figures swiftly disappeared.
Following one of the figures, they arrived at a spacious area, only to find it filled with people. A white light pierced through the thick fog, revealing Xiang Wan and the surrounding environment.
These were all residents of Shuiyao Town, and they all looked at Xiang Wan with fear on their faces. Even the town mayor looked terrified.
"It was him who killed the old lady. I saw it with my own eyes."
A little girl pointed at Xiang Wan; her voice and figure were ones Xiang Wan had only seen before.
"Mother, how could you be so foolish! He brought disaster upon us and even killed you. I will avenge you!"
The fisherman named A Niu, wielding a kitchen knife, angrily swung it towards the evening. Surprisingly, everyone around him remained unmoved.
Xiang Wan frowned, then kicked Ah Niu unconscious.
"You villain, why did you kill the old lady? You were trying to set fire to the pillar, and now you've been caught red-handed killing her. Surrender now, or we'll give you a quick death!"
Leng Qingxue stepped forward, her face filled with righteous indignation.
"Kill him!"
"Kill him!"
The crowd waved their fists and, with red eyes, gathered around Xiang Wan.
Clearly, these people had been bewitched. Leng Qingxue was also in the crowd, and Xiang Wan couldn't help but try to find Feng Wuyan, but she couldn't.
"Kill him! Avenge my aunt!"
"murderer!"
"You villain!"
"A life for a life!"
As the crowd drew closer, Xiang Wan kept her eyes fixed on Leng Qingxue. Just as the crowd raised their knives, she leaped up and flew above them.
She had hoped to use this opportunity to escape the encirclement, but unexpectedly, countless flying needles suddenly shot out from the mist, forcing Xiang Wan to temporarily return to her original position.
With her feet on the ground, the person closest to her brought down a blade.
"Put down the butcher's knife and become a Buddha on the spot!"
The words, interspersed with the mermaid's song, spread outwards from the center, and everyone's movements came to an abrupt halt. Only Leng Qingxue seemed unaffected, continuing to swing her sword towards Xiang Wan.
Xiang Wan snorted coldly and quickly stopped her.
This is quite interesting. Feng Wuyan can even use her closest people, resorting to such petty tricks to deal with her.
Xiang Wan stood in the crowd, her body slowly turning around.
"You want to use me, to use the blood of the residents of Shuiyao Town as a sacrifice, to lure out the evil spirits in Blackwater Lake, don't you?"
The surroundings were silent, with the fog churning from time to time.
"If the bait isn't big enough, the evil spirit won't come out. How about we cooperate? I presume you already know about my constitution. I'll lure it out for you, and you'll be responsible for killing the evil spirit. What do you say?"
"Hmph, killing you will achieve the same goal." Feng Wuyan's voice came from all directions.
“You can’t kill me! If we fight, we’ll both be severely injured. In that case, the evil spirits will kill everyone here. It will only increase the bloodshed, which is not the work of righteous people.”
"I don't believe you."
"Perfect, I don't trust you either! So, your junior sister must stay with me. If anything happens to me, she will pay with her life."
"……good!"
With the agreement reached, Feng Wuyan slowly emerged from the mist.
Leng Qingxue's neck had already been grabbed by Xiang Wan.
"Hide all these people in the nearby rooms. You do the ritual, and I'll be the bait."
Feng Wuyan didn't speak, but took out a small bell and shook it gently. The residents woke up as if they had forgotten what had just happened, and they all walked into the house on one side.
The area was cleared. Feng Wuyan took out several black flags and planted them in eight different locations. Then she took out a roll of silver thread and connected the flags together in a certain pattern.
Having done all this, Feng Wuyan held the seals in both hands and waved them at the black flags. A white light flashed, and the silver threads and black flags disappeared without a trace, replaced by the same mist as the surroundings.
Feng Wuyan retreated ten feet and disappeared into the thick fog behind her. Xiang Wan laid Leng Qingxue down on the ground, used her blood as a medium to draw talismans on the exorcising sword, then extinguished the two lamps on her shoulders again and sat cross-legged on the ground to meditate.
