"What are you doing here?" Xiang Wan asked bluntly.
What she disliked most was encountering people from the underworld while catching ghosts, especially the person in front of her.
"I've come to help you, aren't you welcome?"
The man turned around, and even though he had a handsome face and wore a brocade robe, Xiang Wan had no good feelings towards him, especially his purple-gold crown. If she had the ability, she would have liked to take a sword and chop it down immediately.
"Your Majesty the King of the Underworld, instead of wasting your time on the affairs of a mere mortal, you should go back to the Underworld and properly manage your subordinates. Stop letting evil spirits run rampant all day long while only eyeing the innocent and weak."
"You mean Old Bai? That old man's lifespan has ended. Capturing him is his duty. How come in your mouth, we in the underworld have all become accomplices of evil spirits? Master Jiang, it's better to be reasonable in everything," Hades said lightly.
"Since you don't want to get involved, I will! I've saved him, so what are you going to do about it?"
Xiang Wan's eyes were piercing, as if she were ready to start a fight at the slightest provocation.
She had endured enough. If it weren't for her physical body preventing her from going to the underworld, she would have already taken up her sword and wreaked havoc in the netherworld.
"You are no match for me. I'm in a good mood today, so I won't bother with you."
With a wave of his hand, Hades unleashed an overwhelming aura of power.
Xiang Wan instantly thrust her sword into the ground, standing there, struggling to stay upright, unwilling to fall down, and even more unwilling to show weakness in front of him.
While the coldness could be absorbed with the Frost Technique, the invisible pressure was something no ordinary body could withstand. Even using the Vampire Hunter Technique, it was only enough to barely keep the body from bleeding.
Fine beads of sweat gradually appeared on Xiang Wan's forehead, but the oppressive aura of Hades did not diminish in the slightest. Watching him slowly walk up to her and touch her forehead with his fingertips, Xiang Wan struggled to turn her head, only to have her chin grabbed by his hand.
"I'll leave you alone and see how long you can hold out! One day, you'll be begging me for mercy!"
Xiang Wan lowered her eyes, blocking his view, and let him threaten her.
A moment later, the air distorted, the oppressive aura disappeared, and Xiang Wan knelt on the ground, panting heavily.
"no way!"
The two words that Xiang Wan spat out between her teeth exhausted the last of her strength after resisting the oppressive force.
She gripped the exorcism sword tightly with her fingers, slowly stood up, and her astonishing willpower made her look like a sword drawn from its sheath, its sharpness fully revealed.
The old man was right; the coffin was still lying across the cave entrance, but the body was gone. There were no traces of wild animals around, but there were two human footprints.
It's very likely that the body was possessed by an evil spirit, which then took possession of the body and found a place to hide temporarily.
It's midday now; the evil spirit can't have gone far. The most likely hiding place is...
Xiang Wan looked at the cave in front of her, reached into her bundle and took out some dry rations to fill her stomach and rest for a while. When she had recovered her strength, she took out a few talismans and pasted them directly above the cave entrance. Then she took out some yellow wine, took a sip, and sprayed it on the exorcising sword.
Just in case, Xiang Wan took out cinnabar and drew a talisman on her chest to ward off evil spirits. After gathering her spiritual power in her eyes, she stepped into the cave.
After the rain, a lot of rainwater gathered at the cave entrance, and the sound of dripping water came from inside the cave.
The ground is covered with uneven stones, and there are sharp rocks protruding from the cave walls. If you are not careful, you will be scratched on the head by the rocks.
After walking several dozen feet inside, the cave entrance began to slope downwards, and the space became much larger. There were many stone slabs around that had been smoothed by human hands, with colorless murals carved on them, covered by dust and cobwebs.
After walking for about fifteen minutes, we found a natural stone cave with many dried stalactites on both sides. A dozen or so coffins were scattered around a huge coffin in the middle of the cave.
Some of the outer coffins were badly damaged, revealing the white bones inside; others were so decayed that a light touch could easily poke a large hole in them. Only the middle coffin had minimal damage to its outer layer, and the inner coffin remained intact. However, the lid showed signs of having been opened.
Xiang Wan held her breath, slowly walked over, kicked the coffin lid over, and then thrust the exorcism sword into the coffin.
With a clang, the exorcising sword was blocked by a hard object and was violently bounced away. A black figure jumped out of the coffin and reached out to grab Wan.
It was an ancient corpse. The color of its clothes was indistinguishable, its fingernails were long and sharp, its appearance was withered, its eyes rolled back, its cheeks were sunken, and it had no trace of deathly aura. Instead, a black aura lingered around it, and its yin energy and resentment were extremely heavy. With Xiang Wan's keen eyesight, this evil spirit had definitely been lurking in the human world for hundreds of years, but it had only been in this body for a short time, so its movements were still somewhat stiff.
The corpse had incredible jumping ability. Xiang Wan ducked to avoid his attack and turned to stab him with her sword. Unexpectedly, his body was like a forged wall of copper and iron, and the exorcising sword could not penetrate it.
With a "whoosh," the corpse leaped onto the cave wall, knocking off countless rocks, and then pounced towards the evening.
Xiang Wan pulled out a talisman, hung it on the exorcism sword, and swung the sword at the corpse, chanting, "All laws return to one, gods and ghosts manifest, slay ghosts and ward off evil, awe all directions. Stagnate!"
The Evil-Repelling Sword flashed with a beam of light, and the Immobilization Talisman shot out, flying towards the corpse's face. A roar was heard, and a wisp of black mist rose from the top of the corpse's head, hovering above the cave ceiling, condensing and refusing to dissipate.
The corpse, after being immobilized by the immobilization talisman, fell straight down, landing face down on the ground.
