Chapter 667 The True Story of Ghost Detection (Part 3)

The demise of an evil spirit is often accompanied by the release of a benevolent soul.

All resentment, evil, and dark energy that cannot be seen in the light slowly disappeared into the air, and faint specks of light gradually appeared and slowly flew upwards.

These are all souls devoured by evil spirits, their consciousness obliterated, their memories lost, leaving only a last bit of residual energy, drifting in the world, and finally disappearing into the heavens and earth.

"Hurry up, they're about to disappear, let's collect them all quickly."

"Never mind, let them rest in peace."

Xiang Wan ignored the system's shouts and sat cross-legged on the ground to meditate and regulate her breathing.

Although she appeared to have won the battle gloriously, she had actually exhausted herself. If another evil spirit were to appear now, she probably wouldn't even be able to withstand a single blow.

Fortunately, it's still daytime, so even deep inside a cave where the sun never shines, no ghost would dare to wander around during the day.

Xiang Wan had directly entered the evil spirit's lair, forcing it to fight. If it were nighttime, the evil spirit might have seized the opportunity to escape if things went wrong, and the few talismans at the entrance might not have been enough to stop it. Or it might have simply absorbed all the surrounding yin energy to increase its power. In that case, Xiang Wan herself would likely be in dire straits.

After meditating for an hour, Xiang Wan's internal energy had recovered to about 70-80%. She stood up, took out a corpse-dissolving talisman, and turned the ancient corpse into ashes. With everything ready, Xiang Wan planned to leave.

"master!"

A soft, melodious female voice seemed to come from a distant place, drifting and ethereal, making it impossible to discern its direction.

Xiang Wan stood still, not moving.

"Master, please help me!"

The sound became clearer and clearer. Xiang Wan turned her head and saw a white figure appearing and disappearing in the corner.

The cave was pitch black, but the evening's spiritual energy gathered in his eyes, making it as bright as day, even when traveling at night. Without this ability, one could not become a ghost appraiser.

It was a female ghost with disheveled hair, no feet, and a face as deathly pale as her clothes, with completely black eyes and lips. Black blood dripped from her nostrils, disappearing as it hit the ground.

She didn't have any black aura, but she wasn't a benevolent ghost either. She probably still had unfulfilled wishes, and the resentment that had accumulated over the years made her soul tend to solidify.

"Young lady, aren't you afraid that showing yourself in broad daylight will scatter your spirit?" Xiang Wan asked, frowning.

"I can't wait any longer!"

As the woman spoke, blood began to seep from her seven orifices, showing signs of transforming into a malevolent spirit.

"Stop!"

Xiang Wan's sharp shout, imbued with spiritual power, instantly stunned the woman.

The blood receded at a visible speed, and in the blink of an eye, the female ghost returned to her previous appearance.

"Tell me your grievances truthfully. Perhaps I can help you put aside your worldly desires."

Xiang Wan is always willing to take extra care of souls who have never done evil.

The female ghost slowly nodded and said, "My name is Du Juan, and I am from Wuming Village. Twenty years ago, I was passing through this place on my way to buy medicine for my parents when a wicked man dragged me into the woods, where I was subjected to all kinds of humiliation. Afterward, I was dismembered and thrown into a ravine. My parents were old, and after learning of my disappearance, they cried until they went blind and passed away not long after. But that burly man actually became the village chief of Wuming Village. I hate him so much, I wish I could become a vengeful ghost and strangle him. But for some reason, ever since I was sucked into this cave, I have never been able to get out."

"The evil spirit that the master just slew came here a month ago and devoured all the souls that couldn't escape. My daughter was able to survive by hiding in a pearl in the corner."

"Now, the evil spirit has been vanquished, but my feet are slowly melting away. I fear that before I can avenge myself, I, Dujuan, will cease to exist in this world. Master, please help me!"

As she spoke, the female ghost knelt down on the ground, her sobbing echoing through the cave, sending chills down one's spine.

"Dujuan, get up and talk first." Xiang Wan stepped aside.

The female ghost didn't move, she just kept kowtowing.

Xiang Wan sighed and asked, "You should know that humans and ghosts are on different paths. If I help you kill someone, it will only increase your sins, and you will not be able to escape the punishment of the underworld. Why force it?"

Upon hearing this, the female ghost raised her head and stared straight at Xiang Wan, saying, "Master, I will not kill him. I only beg you to take me away from this place. I want to enter that beast's dream. Because of him, my family was destroyed and my loved ones died. How can he sleep soundly without worry?"

"If you scare someone to death, it'll be blamed on you too," Xiang Wan warned.

"Master, I will know my limits. I only wish that he is haunted by nightmares for the rest of his life. Death would be too good for him!"

As the female ghost spoke, her body surged with yin energy, perhaps her evil thoughts had resurfaced.

Xiang Wan felt both sympathy and a headache regarding this kind of ghost. She hadn't done anything evil or harmed anyone, but in the process of seeking revenge, she often failed due to momentary excitement. Of course, Xiang Wan would stop it in time, but she couldn't predict the consequences.

She had previously encountered a vengeful ghost, obsessed with revenge. Even after Xiang Wan finally persuaded him, his revenge was solely focused on mutual destruction. He didn't realize that even when his enemy died, their soul went directly to the underworld, becoming a wrongfully deceased ghost. This vengeful ghost, however, could only watch helplessly as his enemy was taken away and imprisoned; his own punishment was far greater than that of his enemy.

Therefore, in Xiang Wan's view, such revenge is not worth the effort.

However, this female ghost is somewhat intelligent and doesn't blindly seek to kill her enemies.

Before helping her, Xiang Wan needed to do one more thing.

"Relax and don't resist. I need to access your memories and examine your past. If you dare to deceive me, that evil spirit will serve as a warning to you!"
