"Hey! Where did this fiend come from, daring to impersonate Lord Yanlang? I call your name, do you dare answer?"
Hong Tianze casually tossed away the remaining bell handle, took out a dark bronze mirror from his pocket, and faced Xiang Wan directly at it.
This bronze mirror is covered with patterns on the back, and along the raised edges are depictions of ferocious demons with blue faces and fangs. The area in the center of the mirror that reflects a person is no more than the size of a palm. The surface appears smooth and even, but the person reflected is blurry, with only a rough outline.
As soon as the object appeared, a cold and awkward feeling swept over Wan's entire body, as if she were being secretly targeted by a wild beast, ready to devour her at any moment.
The surrounding villagers had somehow surrounded Xiang Wan, whose empty eyes held no life, making him look like a walking corpse.
Xiang Wan knew something was wrong and quickly closed her eyes, using her spiritual sense to explore her surroundings. The exorcising sword in her hand emitted a series of hums, but she showed no fear whatsoever.
“Your grandpa is standing right here. If you dare to call out, I dare to answer. Grandson, call me grandpa first.”
Hong Tianze's already small eyes narrowed further, making his expression even more unreadable. He pointed the mirror directly at Xiang Wan, sneered, and shouted, "Stranger, heed the decree! Soul, enter the mirror! Soul, enter the mirror!"
As he summoned, a pulling force struck from above. Xiang Wan felt as if something was pulling at the top of her head, a familiar sensation of her soul about to leave her body spreading throughout her entire being.
"Hong Tianze, obey the imperial decree! Your soul, enter the mirror! Your soul, enter the mirror!"
Xiang Wan suppressed the discomfort and used the Soul-Stabilizing Spell to stabilize her soul. Then, mimicking Hong Tianze's tone, she returned all the Soul-Collecting Spells.
Hong Tianze was taken aback, then immediately took a few steps forward and came to Xiang Wan, where he read even more enthusiastically.
Xiang Wan leaned forward slightly, following the pulling force, and approached the bronze mirror. Taking advantage of Hong Tianze's attention being on her face, she moved with lightning speed, grabbing his wrist with one hand and snatching the bronze mirror away with the other, turning it over so that the mirror faced him.
Hong Tianze's expression changed drastically. He disregarded everything and lunged forward to snatch the bronze mirror.
Having already obtained something, why would Xiang Wan easily let it be taken back?
As soon as Hong Tianze's short, fat body came over, Xiang Wan turned around and pushed him aside, then kicked him again, sending him sprawling to the ground.
The back of the mirror was very uncomfortable to touch. When Xiang Wan turned it over, she saw that the blood in the mouth of a demon in the middle was still fresh.
This is Hong Tianze's secret to using mirrors!
Using blood as a medium, the evil spirit is fed, allowing it to devour the souls of the living to grow stronger. However, Xiang Wan doesn't quite understand why, once an evil spirit has consumed enough souls, it no longer needs an object as a medium. Why is the evil spirit still attached to this bronze mirror?
These villagers have had part of their souls absorbed by the bronze mirror, yet they walk as usual and live their lives as before. Is this all just to deceive outsiders?
Xiang Wan twirled the bronze mirror in her hand a few times, but still couldn't figure it out. She asked the system, which said that the thing was strange and not worth studying.
So, Xiang Wan raised the exorcising sword, intending to split it in two.
Xiang Wan has never liked to keep such evil things around to harm others.
"Wait! If you chop it down, all these villagers will die!"
Upon seeing Xiang Wan's actions, Hong Tianze panicked. Ignoring the possibility of being kicked by Xiang Wan again, he crawled over and tried to grab her robe, but she kicked him three meters away.
Xiang Wan was skeptical, so she put down the exorcism sword, took a sealing talisman from her bundle, and stuck it on the mirror.
The moment the talisman was applied, he felt much lighter. However, the surrounding villagers all collapsed to the ground and fell into a deep sleep.
Xiang Wan's eyes turned cold. She stepped on Hong Tianze's fat hand and ground it back and forth until he cried and begged for mercy. Only then did she loosen her grip slightly, her voice icy and chilling: "Tell me everything you know!"
Hong Tianze grimaced in pain. He had been a wealthy man who had bullied the village for over a decade. When had he ever suffered like this? But seeing Xiang Wan's expression and his own bloodied and mangled hand that was still pinned down and unable to move, Hong Tianze became somewhat timid.
Compared to those empty promises, staying alive is the most important thing. At least he's still a human being now, and he doesn't want to become a ghost too soon.
"Great hero, spare my life! I... I had no choice... Look, the villagers are still alive and well, they haven't had any serious illnesses in over ten years, everything in Xihong Village is fine, and I haven't done anything heinous... Great hero, please have mercy and let me go, great hero..."
With a "smack," Xiang Wan slapped Hong Tianze hard across the face, making his cheek swell up high.
"You didn't do anything heinous? What about that pregnant woman? What about these villagers? If you offer another excuse, you might as well forget about going to the underworld and just vanish into nothingness."
As she spoke, Xiang Wan took out a Soul-Burning Talisman and pretended to stick it on his forehead.
Hong Tianze then calmed down. "Master, I really didn't mean it. More than ten years ago, I was out doing business and accidentally found this mirror. That night, a man who called himself Yanlang Shenjun entered my dream. He told me that as long as I did what he said, I could become very rich."
“I used to do some buying and selling business, and I didn’t believe in it at first. But then I found that Yanlang Shenjun always told me in advance and I could get a good price for the goods. After a while, I started to regard him as a god of wealth. When I had made enough money, he told me to go back to Xihong Village and said that he had a way to make me the village chief, as long as I helped the villagers.”
“He always told me to keep this mirror close to my body. Anyone who needs something from him can get what they want as long as they believe in him. I know about the changes in the villagers, but what can I do? If I show the slightest unwillingness, he will give me a splitting headache. This time, it was Zhang’s own choice to use her child as a sacrifice. I didn’t force her.”
