Nangong Chen glanced at Xiang Wan, then got up and walked to the side.
"Hello?"
"Um, something came up."
"Come on over, we're at the hospital."
"good!"
After saying a few simple words, Nangong Chen sat down by Xiang Wan's bedside again.
"Is something wrong? You can go ahead, you don't need to stay with me."
Xiang Wan spoke softly, turning her face to the side and gently rubbing against the pillow.
"It's alright, Zixi just came to see you."
After saying this, Nangong Chen probably felt it wasn't very good and looked a little embarrassed.
"Oh." A hint of surprise flashed in Xiang Wan's eyes, followed by disappointment. "I didn't expect that my younger brother, whom I raised since he was little, would be closer to you. As his older sister, I'm going to be jealous."
"We just... get along well."
"Yes, you men always find it easy to have common topics. When Zixi was little, he was very well-behaved and pretty. Once, I tricked him by saying that if he wanted to be a prince, he had to learn how to wear a princess dress first. I didn't expect him to actually believe it and beg my mom to buy him a dress, hahaha!"
Xiang Wan laughed for a while, then tears welled up in her eyes. Nangong Chen handed her a tissue, saying, "He's just that trusting."
"Do you want to know if he ended up wearing a skirt or not?"
Xiang Wan lay on her back, staring at the ceiling, as if reminiscing about the past.
In Nangong Chen's eyes, Xiang Wan was gentle and vulnerable, as if only memories could bring her any comfort—completely different from what Liu Zixi had described to him. Nangong Chen couldn't help but recall the moments they had shared. Although he had always been the one guiding the conversation, he now realized that he seemed to have never truly understood Xiang Wan. At this moment, she was finally showing her true self, making him want to explore her further.
"I bet he ended up wearing it, and you laughed at him for it."
Nangong Chen's casual response surprised Xiang Wan for a moment, then she chuckled and said, "My brother is no fool."
Xiang Wan looked at Nangong Chen with a smile in her eyes and said, "Later, he wore my favorite dress, and even ruined it. He didn't dare tell me, so he secretly sewed it back up with thread."
"You discovered it?"
"Yes, if only I had never discovered it!"
Xiang Wan's voice grew softer, and her eyelids drooped, as if she were extremely tired.
The unspoken words left much to the imagination. Nangong Chen seemed to understand Xiang Wan's implied meaning, yet also seemed not to; his expression remained calm, his lips slightly pursed.
"Go to sleep!"
Nangong Chen left the ward, but Xiang Wan couldn't sleep either, lying in bed lost in thought. She didn't know if Nangong Chen was born gay or developed it later in life. Judging from his attitude towards Liu Zixi and towards her, it seemed that he simply didn't have romantic feelings for women due to psychological reasons. Liu Zixi must have some quality that attracted his attention. What could it be? Xiang Wan thought and thought, and the only characteristic she could think of was that of a "white lotus."
Yes, Liu Zixi was pampered by her since childhood, and was well-behaved, sensible, and understanding. Although Nangong Chen was used to a life of luxury and domineering, it was actually because he lacked maternal love; his outward strength could not hide his fragile heart. Ordinary people would often assume that such a strong person must lack nothing, creating a sense of distance and never paying attention to his inner feelings. Even after the original owner became his wife, she still felt somewhat inferior and only wanted to express her love in her own way, which is why he placed her in a humble corner and hurt her at will.
Liu Zixi's identity was perfect; she could get close to Nangong Chen without being afraid of him, treating him as a friend. Eventually, both of them fell for each other. Once Nangong Chen set his mind on someone, he wouldn't easily change his mind. What Xiang Wan needed to do now was to find topics to talk about with people who interested him, and then attract his attention.
Seeing the change in Nangong Chen's attitude towards her over the past two days, Xiang Wan knew she had won her gamble. Showing appropriate weakness wasn't about fear or retreat; it was simply about getting revenge on that gay couple. This wasn't enough, but it was enough to make Liu Zixi nervous and worried.
"Sister, how are you?" Liu Zixi rushed to the bedside as soon as she entered the room, her eyes filled with worry. "I've been busy with my graduation project these past two days and didn't know you were sick in time. I'm so sorry!"
"It's just a minor illness, nothing serious, and it shouldn't interfere with your work."
"Sister, you're always like this. You raised me, how can you not tell me when I'm sick? Do you want people to say that I, as your younger brother, am ungrateful and don't care about my sister?"
Liu Zixi's tears came so easily that Xiang Wan couldn't help but feel a bit of a headache.
"Don't cry, I'm perfectly fine, aren't I?"
"You always bully me. If I hadn't happened to call my brother-in-law, would my sister have even told me? You're sick, and I was the last to know. What will people think of me?"
"It's fine."
"No, my sister doesn't care about me anymore. Before, I was always the first to know what happened. How come she's changed now that she's married? Sister, you weren't like this before. You used to love me so much..."
Liu Zixi kept talking, and Xiang Wan got a headache from the noise and frowned slightly.
Nangong Chen followed behind Liu Zixi and noticed that Xiang Wan seemed slightly unwell. For the first time, he felt that Liu Zixi was talking too much.
"Zixi, your sister needs to rest."
Liu Zixi looked up at Xiang Wan, then turned to stare at Nangong Chen, and said with a wronged expression, "Brother-in-law, do you also think I'm wrong?"
That's not what I meant.
"My sister was sick, and it was my fault for not rushing over immediately. But when she woke up, she didn't tell me right away. Does she think I'm an outsider? I'm her own brother, and it's my fault for showing concern for her a few words?"
