Chapter 721 A Different Life (Part 1)

"Wan'er, you're finally awake? You scared your mother to death! I thought... I thought..."

Towards the end, he broke down in tears.

When Xiang Wan opened her eyes, she was in a hospital, and the faint smell of disinfectant filled the entire room.

My head hurts a little, and my throat is so dry it feels like it's on fire.

“Daughter, never do anything foolish again. If anything happens to you, how will your father and I live? My silly daughter…”

Turning my head, I saw a familiar face, its eyes red and swollen from crying.

Xiang Wan tried to open her mouth wide, but it was as if her mouth was glued shut, and she couldn't make a sound.

He raised his hand; an IV drip was attached to the back of his left hand, while the instrument was held between his right fingertips.

"007, what's going on?"

Unable to ask her mother, Xiang Wan decided to ask the system.

To my surprise, the system didn't answer even after I asked it several times.

Just as I was wondering, the ward door was pushed open.

A middle-aged woman dressed in elegant attire walked in, wearing high heels. She wore sunglasses, her hair was styled in a bun, and she had dazzling gemstone earrings dangling from her ears. Her well-maintained wrist wore a jade bracelet, and she carried an exquisite handbag. Judging from the brand name on the bag, it appeared to be a limited edition from a luxury brand.

The woman walked to Xiang Wan's bedside, and without saying a word, took out a check from her bag, wrote a few words on it, and handed it to Xiang Wan.

"Here's a million, enough for you to live on for the rest of your life. From now on, don't bother my son again."

Xiang Wan frowned. When she opened her eyes, she saw someone giving her money, and she couldn't help but feel that they had ill intentions.

"What are you doing? My daughter is perfectly fine and doesn't need your money. Take it away, take it away." The mother was somewhat displeased.

The woman frowned, took back the invoice, and issued another one.

"Three million, are you satisfied now?"

"I already said no. If there's nothing else, please leave. My daughter needs some peace and quiet." The mother stood up, issuing an order to leave.

The woman slammed the check on the bedside table, her tone forceful and domineering. "Don't push your luck. How could my son possibly have anything to do with a family like yours? I don't intend to pursue what happened before. Consider this money a breakup fee. If you think you can still have anything to do with my son, you're wrong. He's going to marry a daughter from a well-to-do family, and I don't want any negative rumors to damage his reputation. Considering how long you've protected my son, let's part amicably. Don't force me to use any means necessary, or the consequences will be unpredictable."

"You...you..."

Xiang's mother was so angry that she trembled all over.

Xiang Wan reached out and grabbed her mother's clothes.

"mom……"

The sound squeezed out of his throat was hoarse and dry.

"Wan'er, how are you?"

Xiang's mother focused her attention on Xiang Wan, feeling both heartache and self-reproach.

If she were capable, she would never allow an outsider to humiliate her daughter like that.

"Mom, don't be angry."

After struggling for a few moments, she tried to sit up. Her mother quickly rocked the hospital bed up, helped her lie down at an angle, and placed a pillow behind her back.

Once seated, Xiang Wan reached for the water. Only then did her mother belatedly realize what was happening and quickly poured some warm water, helping Xiang Wan drink it.

After drinking a glass of water, her parched throat was relieved, and Xiang Wan finally recovered and carefully examined the woman standing in front of her.

Sunglasses obscured most of her face, her lips were adorned with exquisitely applied bright red lipstick, and her clothes were impeccably tailored and exuded an air of wealth. Her hands were fair and well-maintained; without close inspection, one might mistake her for a woman in her early thirties. However, the fine lines that inadvertently appeared on her neck betrayed her age. Moreover, her overall aura and assertive demeanor suggested that only a middle-aged person could act in such a manner.

Her son?

Now that she's back, who else could be involved with Xiang Wan besides Qiu Rui?

However, it was not the person who initiated the breakup, but this middle-aged woman who kept mentioning her son, that brought up the matter. There is probably more to the story.

"Excuse my intrusion, but who is your son?"

Xiang Wan's words infuriated the woman.

It seems she was using both threats and money to coerce the other party, who didn't even know who her son was.

However, seeing Xiang Wan's calm expression, the woman was unsure whether Xiang Wan truly didn't recognize her son or was saying it on purpose.

"Qiu Rui, I am his mother." The woman suppressed her displeasure and observed Xiang Wan through her sunglasses, wanting to see how she would react to these words.

To everyone's surprise, Xiang Wan seemed to know nothing and asked in confusion, "Qiu Rui, who is he?"

This time, not only was the woman dumbfounded, but even Xiang's mother was stunned.

"You really don't know who Qiu Rui is?"

Xiang Wan silently shook her head. The woman's expression was somewhat complicated. She opened and closed her lips, but in the end, she said nothing. She took back the check, said "Sorry to bother you," turned around, pushed open the door, and left.

The room was quiet. Xiang's mother looked at Xiang Wan, hesitant to speak.

"Mom, where's my phone?"

"Here."

Where's Dad?

"Your dad went out to buy food, he'll be back in a bit."

"Mom, I want to drink porridge."

"Hey, wait here, I'll go downstairs and buy it for you."

When Xiang Mu turned to leave, she took the thermos with her.

The ward was empty. Xiang Wan opened her hand and checked the time.

Sure enough, three years had passed.

This system is such a rip-off!

After calling out in her mind for a long time, 007 still didn't respond, so Xiang Wan stopped worrying about it.

She desperately wanted everything she had experienced to be a dream, but the memories in her mind constantly reminded her that it wasn't.
