Chapter 747 The Altar (Part 8)

"I'm so hungry, I need to eat something!"

Xiang Wan led the two on a journey that lasted several days, during which the most frequent sound she heard was Red Ball asking for food.

Having spent so long in the Crimson World without ever seeing it eat anything, it cried out for food as soon as it came out, but Xiang Wan ignored it.

As soon as the sound of the red ball asking for food echoed in her mind, Xiang Wan would take out the little cloud dream beast and stroke its fur gently, as tenderly as she could be.

Without comparison, you won't know how good your previous situation was.

At first, Red Ball didn't react. It wasn't until Xiang Wan stroked the little Cloud Dream Beast and made it purr comfortably in its sleep that it became somewhat aware of the danger. However, it refused to admit it and just shook its short fur, trying to tempt Xiang Wan to stroke it.

No matter how big the forest is, there will always be a time when you finish walking through it.

Whether it was the Cloud Dream Beast on her body or not, Xiang Wan did not encounter any animals along the way. When she walked out of the forest, she happened to arrive at a canyon.

The mountain is steep and the rocks are jagged. A narrow path, only wide enough for three people to walk, leads into the depths of the canyon. Looking up, only a sliver of sky is visible in the air.

“It looks desolate! There are various animal tracks along the path, but why do they disappear when we get to that rock?” Xiang Wan stood at the entrance of the canyon, her brows furrowed. “The two sides are so clearly separated; it seems we can’t go in.”

After thinking it over, Xiang Wan put the two in her pocket and turned to walk back.

Just kidding, knowing something's wrong inside and still going in, that's not how you throw your life away.

Anyway, she doesn't have any particular goal right now, so taking a detour won't make a difference.

Red Ball was disdainful, but because it was still attached to someone else, it didn't dare let Xiang Wan know.

Just a few steps away from returning to the forest, a gentle breeze blew by, causing Xiang Wan's nostrils to twitch, and an unusual smell entered her nostrils.

Damn it, it's like a ghost that won't leave you alone!

Xiang Wan paused for a second or two, then turned and ran into the canyon.

Damn it, whatever's in the canyon, could it be more terrifying than thousands upon thousands of black worms?

She just didn't understand. How could they catch up after she had already left? Did she have a tracking device on her?

Without time to think, as she passed the clearly defined large rock, Xiang Wan glanced back and was so startled that she leaped onto a rock protruding from the steep mountainside.

These insects seemed to be somewhat afraid of light, and their movements were not as agile as they were in the cave, but they were even more ferocious than before, with their mouths wide open, biting whatever they could catch.

They paused briefly as they entered the canyon, then rushed towards evening in the blink of an eye.

Xiang Wan didn't dare to land at all, and kept jumping on the rocks on the mountainside.

Fortunately, the black insects couldn't catch up with her for a while, and many of the stones in the valley were gnawed apart by them.

The deeper they went, the more intense the chilling aura became, and the more agile the black insects became.

The stones she had walked on were now covered by black insects that had climbed over them, and there was no way back. She had no choice but to grit her teeth and push her way in.

The air was getting more and more humid, and a thin layer of frost gradually covered the rocks underfoot, making them easy to slip if you weren't careful.

Xiang Wan slowed down, but her body seemed to like it here. Every cell on her body surface became active, desperately absorbing the chill in the air.

At the same time, a cold current seemed to be circulating within my body along a specific trajectory. Wherever it passed, the chill was absorbed, and a gentle warmth spread throughout my limbs and bones, feeling incredibly comfortable.

Further ahead, the moisture in the air condenses into a tangible substance, and the visible distance is less than five meters.

Xiang Wan slowed down completely, cautiously and tentatively moving forward.

She was in mid-air, not knowing what was beneath her feet, and could not afford to be careless.

The rustling sounds behind her seemed to have subsided considerably, which gave Xiang Wan a temporary sense of relief.

If there had been a place to stand on the top of the rock face, Xiang Wan would definitely have jumped up already; she still prefers to walk in the sunlight.

"Knock knock!"

A faint sound, like a heartbeat, suddenly came from ahead, accompanied by a faint smell of blood and an indescribable odor that sent shivers down one's spine.

"This smell is very unpleasant at first, but after smelling it for a while, it seems quite familiar." Xiang Wan glanced behind her, and a black insect had just crawled onto the rock where she had been standing. "Never mind, whatever is in front of me is easier to deal with than these insects."

Xiang Wan tightened the tattered cloth wrapping around the little Yunmeng Beast, then raised her hand and threw the red ball out.

"Ahhh, you won't even let this beast catch its breath, are you even human?"

With a "thud," the red ball hit something and bounced back.

I calculated the distance, and it was exactly ten meters away, which I could jump over.

Xiang Wan reached out and caught the red ball that kept protesting in her mind, then bent down and leaped into the thick fog.

The foothold was less than half a square meter; luckily, I didn't fall.

The red ball stopped making a sound, because Xiang Wan pretended to throw it forward again.

"Don't throw it away! There's no space ahead. If you do it again, you'll lose me!"

It was rare for the red ball to speak to her so seriously, so Xiang Wan decided to believe it this time.

“We have no way out. If we stay here, we’ll be eaten by those strange insects sooner or later. Come to think of it, this is all your fault for being greedy. I’ve already done more than enough by not abandoning you. Now, it’s your turn to step up your game.”

The red ball, realizing it was in the wrong, said dryly, "This beast needs to grow. How can it survive without eating something good? There's a barrier down here; we can go in and hide."

Xiang Wan raised an eyebrow. It seemed that this little thing still had some conscience. If she didn't push it a bit, it would probably still be sleeping soundly in her arms right now.

As a little animal that gets petted, it has no self-awareness at all. If you insist on making it squeeze toothpaste, what else is it but asking for a beating?

Since they've said we can go in, what are we waiting for?

Xiang Wan held the red ball in both hands, stroked the not-at-all-soft red hair a couple more times, sighed, and with a burst of strength, the red ball flew downwards with linear acceleration.

Less than three seconds later, a "pop" sound rang out, and the exclamation from the red ball in my mind came to an abrupt halt.

"I should trust my little friend a bit more; it's probably about to get angry." Xiang Wan thought to herself, then looked up and glanced back. A golden figure was rapidly approaching amidst a buzzing sound.

Damn it, if Xiang Wan hadn't known that this golden worm wasn't from the canyon, she would have thought it was a spirit deliberately forcing her to break into the barrier!

With a push of her legs, Xiang Wan covered her head with her hands and leaped down, just as the golden insect opened its mouth to bite her toes, she entered the barrier.

With a "snap," the golden insect stuck to the thin membrane of the barrier, its entire body squeezed into a thin sheet.

Xiang Wan did not look back. After entering the barrier membrane, her whole body was covered with a layer of blood mist, which slowed her descent. Everything in sight was dark red.

I kept track of the time in my mind, and it wasn't until fifteen minutes later that I slowly landed.

The ground was sticky and slippery, much like the scene in the blood-red world, except that the smell of blood here was far too strong, making one want to vomit.

"Red ball, where are you?"

Xiang Wan stood still and issued a summons, causing the surrounding blood mist to surge and churn, as if a large hand were stirring up the thick fog.

"Come back! Come back! I've been waiting for you, for thousands of years, I've been waiting for you!"
