Chapter 87 What a pair of lovebirds (Twenty-seven)

On the way back, Xiang Wan kept thinking about what Xia Zhi had told her. If Nangong Jue truly loved his wife that much, he wouldn't have started having affairs after marriage. Moreover, judging from Nangong Jue's attitude towards Nangong Chen, which was even less caring than towards Old Master Nangong, there must be some unknown secret behind it.

Nangong Yu acted swiftly, and that evening, his press conference was broadcast on television. The current president of the Nangong Group was temporarily stepping down, with Nangong Yu assuming all his duties. To outsiders, it appeared that Nangong Chen's chaotic private life had led to his being disqualified as heir by the old patriarch. However, Nangong Yu, adept at diplomacy, simply stated that Nangong Chen was going on his honeymoon with his wife, and the delay after the wedding was to ensure a smooth handover. As for the videos and pictures online, he claimed they were malicious fabrications.

The truth behind his words was mixed, and most people were skeptical, but this did not hinder the Nangong Group's subsequent actions. Nangong Yu went on to do charity work and improve employee benefits, and eliminated corrupt elements within the group, managing the Nangong Group even better than when Nangong Chen was in charge.

Of course, that's a story for later. While Nangong Yu was focused on his career, Xiang Wan took the opportunity to secretly have someone investigate the Nangong family, including Nangong Chen's mother.

Liu Zixi had secretly sought out Xiang Wan. He was still angry about being misunderstood by Nangong Chen, and he only went to Xiang Wan because he was being pointed at and talked about everywhere at school. As a student who had not yet graduated, he was thin-skinned and couldn't stand it. He didn't want to go home, so he hoped that Xiang Wan could find him a place to stay.

Xiang Wan did not refuse. She did not want Liu Zixi to hide somewhere she could not see him. Compared to the suffering the original owner had endured, his grievances were far from enough.

Xiang Wan asked around and found a rather interesting apartment for Liu Zixi to stay in. Don't expect Xiang Wan to think about him; she's just providing an opportunity. If Liu Zixi can control himself, then he'll be lucky.

Nangong Chen tried to make his presence known to Xiang Wan every day, wanting to talk to her and return to their previous life. Xiang Wan simply looked at him indifferently, which made him afraid to speak. Perhaps he truly wanted to win her back, but what was the use? Things had changed; the person he had hurt was gone. What was the point of doing all this now?

A month passed in the blink of an eye. During that time, Xia Zhi looked for her several times, but Xiang Wan simply reassured her not to wander around and to wait patiently.

Aside from the few times she went looking for people, Xiang Wan rarely left the house, spending her time painting in the garden. Yes, she was waiting, waiting for all of this to come to an end.

Nangong Chen sat quietly in a corner of the courtyard, watching her pick up her brush and tidy up her painting tools back and forth, without disturbing her, as if this would preserve these images forever.

The phone in the bag vibrated. Xiang Wan picked it up, glanced at it, turned around, packed her things, and prepared to leave.

Where are you going?

Nangong Chen suddenly stood in front of her, his face gloomy.

Xiang Wan didn't want to say anything more to him and tried to walk away, but he grabbed her wrist.

"Are you going out again?"

Xiang Wan tried hard to break free, but the grip tightened, so she gave up.

"Let go!"

"You are my wife. Shouldn't you tell me before you go out?"

"If you agree, I don't have to be."

"Now that you've married into the Nangong family, you'll always be my wife, Nangong Chen's wife. If I don't let go, you can't leave!"

Xiang Wan looked up and calmly replied, "Don't you know whether I'm your wife or not?"

"Fine, fine." A storm was brewing in Nangong Chen's eyes as he slowly approached Xiang Wan, cornering her against the wall.

"Today, I will make you my wife!"

Nangong Chen's words didn't sound like a joke. His lowered head drew closer and closer to Xiang Wan, and a sense of oppression emanated from all directions.

"Nangong Chen, is this how you raise your children? Forcing women, are you even a man?"

"You'll soon find out whether I'm a man or not."

For some unknown reason, Nangong Chen tried to lean in and kiss Xiang Wan. Xiang Wan turned her head away and pushed his chest away forcefully with her other hand.

Are you trying to force me to my death?

Xiang Wan's angry words made Nangong Chen pause. Seeing that her words had worked, Xiang Wan pressed on: "Nangong Chen, people can make mistakes, but they can't be shameless!"

When we got married, we made such beautiful vows, but you forgot them all the moment you turned around. Maybe you never cared about me from the beginning, or maybe marrying me was just a pretense.

I gave you so many chances, did you ever turn back? You wore my heart down piece by piece, you pushed me away little by little. What? Now you want to get back together? But I feel disgusted!

Disgusting, you know? I hate your smell, I hate your voice, I hate your touch, and even breathing under the same roof as you makes me feel suffocated.

For the sake of the Nangong family, I've reluctantly endured living here, but you keep getting closer. What do you want from me? Do you want me to die in front of you before you're satisfied?

I don't want you anymore, so please stop coming near me and stop being so pathetic.

Listen to me, I, Liu Xiangwan, don't want you anymore!

The last sentence was so powerful that it immediately deflated Nangong Chen's momentum.

Why should it be up to you, Nangong Chen? You can say you want to be together, and you can say you don't want to be, and then just throw her away? How can people be so selfish? You want to get back what you've already lost. Where were you before? Liu Xiangwan isn't someone Nangong Chen can do whatever he wants with.

Taking advantage of the original owner's love for Nangong Chen, he could trample on her and treat her with contempt, not even as a human being. These are just a few words; is it really that unacceptable?

Watching Nangong Chen clutch his chest and back away, seeing his heavy breathing and reddened eyes, Xiang Wan felt no pity whatsoever.

He doesn't cherish what he loves when he's deeply in love, but clings to it when he's no longer in love. Is this Nangong Chen's style?

Xiang Wan stopped looking at him and turned to leave the courtyard.

The message she just received was from the detective agency she had previously contacted, saying they had something to show her. Xiang Wan disguised herself again at the department store before going there.

"Miss, this is all the information we've gathered. Would you like to take it back and review it further?"

The detective agency members looked at her, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back, and then placed a paper bag in Xiang Wan's hand.

"In addition, we unexpectedly discovered some extra items, which we'll consider a complimentary gift. After all, it's rare to find such a generous customer as you. We hope these items will satisfy you."

Xiang Wan nodded, packed the things into her bag, and left the detective agency.

It was still early, so Xiang Wan didn't plan to go back to the Nangong family's old house. Instead, she went to Liu's parents' house. After locking the door and drawing all the curtains, Xiang Wan had just torn open a bag when a photograph fell out, catching her attention.
