Sui Yi and her group did not follow the road, but instead ventured into the jungle. Half an hour later, they finally reached a spacious area. Looking up, they could see a village at the foot of the mountain, surrounded by mountains on all sides. Anyone who didn't know the area would never find it.
"Little Bai, you're really something! You managed to find this place. But this family is quite good at hiding; this is truly a paradise." All that could be seen were green hills and clear waters, vibrant red flowers in bloom, a gift from nature, the air so fresh it invigorated the spirit.
"Go, get down."
The group went down the path and arrived at the village, where they heard roosters crowing, dogs barking, and people chatting and laughing.
Suiyi walked to the door of a house and knocked on it.
Is anyone home?
"Yes," came a voice from inside the house, and the door opened a moment later. It was a man with a white beard, graying hair, and wearing a very old white shirt that had turned yellow from washing!
The old man stood inside the house looking at the group of people outside; they seemed to be from out of town.
Who are you looking for?
"Excuse me, is this the He family's residence?"
"Yes, this is the He family's residence," the old man replied, looking at the group.
"We're looking for He Rongfa. Is he home?"
"Oh! You're looking for him? He's home, he just got back yesterday. Are you his friends?"
"Hmm! I guess so." Sui Yi hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Please come in." The old man, his body hunched over, walked forward.
Stepping inside, the group was somewhat surprised. The house looked old and worn from the outside, but the interior was beautifully decorated. Appearances can be deceiving!
"Dad, who's here?" The person who asked the question was Rongfa, He Yue's father. After seeing Leng Tianyi, he sighed, said nothing, and walked inside.
"Rongfa, who's here?" He Yue's mother also came over. When she saw the police, her mouth moved, her eyes filled with tears, and she turned her back.
"Go ahead, my friend! You all know I've come from afar, right?" The man opened his mouth, then sighed.
"Yes, we already know. Please cooperate." Leng Tianyi was also in a bad mood and said slowly.
"Dad, didn't you say you were going to play chess? Go on, these are my friends, Juan and I will take care of them." The man suddenly looked at the old man and said with a smile.
"Alright! You all take good care of him! I'm going to find Old Li!" The old man's speech was not very clear because he had lost his teeth. He walked away with a trembling, hunched body.
"Could you grant me a few more days? My father's 80th birthday is in three days. We'll go back and turn ourselves in after the birthday celebration. Officer, please have mercy on us," He Rongfa said after the old man left.
“Okay! But can we meet He Yue?” The person who answered was Sui Yi.
"Okay! Xiaoyue, come down here for a moment." He Rongfa called upstairs after saying that.
"She's here!" A young girl came downstairs; it was indeed He Yue.
After He Yue came down, she sat down in front of the group.
"Good morning, officer!"
"You know why we're here, right?"
"I know, I really didn't mean to," He Yue said, and then suddenly burst into tears.
"Then tell me the process," Ye Zixi demanded.
"That day we rode the Ferris wheel together. When we reached the top, he gave me a pair of earrings. Couples in love are naturally very affectionate. Everyone has heard that kissing at the highest point of a Ferris wheel brings lifelong happiness. I was holding the earrings and we were doing *that* when I suddenly felt a jolt, and a feeling of weightlessness came over me. I nervously grabbed his hair, unaware that the earring needle had pierced his heart on the top of his head. It wasn't until we were about to fall that I realized he was dead. I was terrified, but I didn't want to die, so I kept the earrings on. When you came to check later, you didn't find the problem."
"Why didn't you tell the truth that day?" Leng Tianyi asked.
“I was terrified at the time and couldn’t accept the fact that I had killed my lover, so I thought about running away. But I realized that I loved him and I wanted to be with him because it was my grandfather’s birthday in three days, and I wanted to do my best to fulfill my filial duty.” The girl cried so hard she could barely breathe. Her mother covered her face with her hands, her shoulders trembling with suppressed sobs as she cried with great sadness. The man, however, turned his head to the other side and looked up at the sky.
"I'll give you three days, Jiangling. Stay here for these three days. If anything comes up, lend a hand." Leng Tianyi understood what he wanted and knew he couldn't stay any longer. He stood up and bid farewell to the He family.
"This is also a tragedy. A life that should have been happy was cut short by an accident. And He Yue is so young. Even if she wasn't sentenced to death, by the time she got out of prison, the world would have changed a lot!" Ye Zixi sighed, looking at the blue sky and white clouds, and suddenly said with emotion.
“Sister Zixi, we’ve seen plenty of these kinds of things in our line of work. Every murder case is a tragedy, it’s just that the grieving survivors are in different roles.”
"Back to the police station, submit the case report." This time, Leng Tianyi led the way out, and he was also the one driving. As soon as they got to the car, Li Hao quickly climbed into the driver's seat, afraid that Sui Yi would get in first. He glared at him, and Sui Yi opened the back door and got in.
After Leng Tianyi arrived, Li Hao got out and sat in the passenger seat.
"Boss, are we just going to leave Lao Jiang here like this?"
"I was originally going to throw you away, but I was afraid your unreliable nature would cause trouble for others." Ye Zixi covered her mouth and laughed.
"Who's unreliable? He's clearly very reliable, okay?" Li Hao retorted.
"Fine, I can't be bothered with you."
When we arrived, it took Suiyi three hours to drive here, so the road is really long. And since Yi was driving in the cold weather, it took even longer.
