Chapter Ninety-One: The Case-Solving Diary of a Cannon Fodder Prisoner (6)

Inside the police station, in the interrogation room, as always, Leng Tianyi and Jiang Ling were conducting the interrogation. Liu Hai sat opposite them in a chair, his hands cuffed and gleaming. Perhaps understanding that life had reached a point where there was no light or hope left, the man lowered his head, remaining silent, an endless silence. Neither of them spoke first. Five minutes, ten minutes passed. The silence was the hardest to bear. Liu Hai raised his head, his gaze calm and composed, his face ashen.

Liu Hai's voice rang out slowly, so bright and ironic in the empty interrogation room: "Do you know? My father was a painting artist. Influenced by him from a young age, I also fell in love with art. His favorite figure paintings, with all kinds of poses and shapes, different emotional expressions, whenever I saw those paintings, I had an extreme desire to turn the paintings into reality before my eyes. Perhaps that would be more real, more beautiful, more moving. I always carried this ideal with me. When I entered the art department in university, I became madly obsessed with plaster sculptures. I brought my father's paintings and made them according to the figures in them." At this point, Liu Hai stopped, his eyes widened, and his body trembled violently, overflowing with boundless excitement.

Outside the interrogation room, Sui Yi and Li Hao stood watching the interrogation. Sui Yi felt a deep ache in her heart. There were so many madmen in this world, all created from her own writing. The initial written descriptions and imaginations had become living realities, and how could they face the loss of life with a clear conscience?

Li Hao: "He's about to confess to the crime!"

Sui Yi didn't speak, but stared straight at the people inside who were shouting that art was above everything, even life itself.

"...That woman should actually be happy, because she has contributed her meager efforts to the noble art."

Leng Tianyi said righteously, "Your crazy thoughts have controlled your mind, suppressed your reason, and led you to commit illegal acts. You should know what the consequences will be."

"I'm not afraid." Liu Hai stood up abruptly, clenched his fist, and said excitedly.

Li Hao: "They're like a dead pig that's not afraid of boiling water."

"You're not afraid, but your mother is. What have you done to your mother?" Liu Hai's words enraged Leng Tianyi, who stood up and said sternly.

Liu Hai: "My mom, hahahaha!" Liu Hai suddenly shuddered, slumped weakly into a chair, his lips trembling, filled with regret, and lowered his head to sob.

Leng Tianyi calmed down as well, took a deep breath, and composed himself: "I'll go out for a bit, you continue the interrogation."

Jiang Ling: "Okay, boss."

Leng Tianyi came out and saw Sui Yi and Li Hao standing in front of the screen. A heavy, sorrowful atmosphere filled the air, and no one spoke. The world is full of madmen; desire overrides reason and morality. After the madness comes guilt, regret, and the pain of loved ones—their own pain, and the pain of others.

Sui Yi closed her eyes and took a breath. When she opened them, her mind was calm and her thoughts were a jumble of emotions: "Some people say that the best education is learned in kindergarten. They teach children to share good things, not to lie, not to take what they shouldn't take, and to distinguish between good and bad... But later, under the misguided guidance of their growing desires and understanding of reality, their reason collapsed, and they persisted in wrong ideas, leading to the tragedy of their lives. Right and wrong are often just a matter of a moment, and there is no way to avoid it."

Just then, with a creak, the door opened.

Jiang Ling: "They're all here! Boss, Liu Hai has already given everything away."

Leng Tianyi composed himself and said, "Okay, I'll go write the case report." He then picked up the notebook and walked past the group with heavy steps.

Jiang Ling sighed, "The hardest thing for people to control is their emotions; there are successes and failures. Let's go, we've finally solved the case."

Everyone in the office was there except for the team leader. Setting aside heavy topics, everyone seemed to come alive, chatting and joking together.

Jiang Ling's tone was high: "Xiao Bai, we really owe you a lot this time, otherwise it would probably have taken us several more days to solve the case. But speaking of which, the gun you pulled out at the end...?"

Sui Yi understood what he was trying to say: in China, it is not permissible to carry firearms without a gun license.

"It's fake, just a toy gun. Here, take a look." Sui Yi pulled the black thing out of her pocket and threw it on Jiang Ling's table. As soon as Jiang Ling picked it up, he knew it was real or fake; the weight was obviously not right.

"Not bad, scaring the enemy with a toy gun. You really came up with something." Li Hao raised an eyebrow and smiled at Sui Yi.

Jiang Ling put down his things, looked at Sui Yi, and suddenly became serious: "But judging from the boss's temper, you'll probably get scolded later, Xiao Bai."

Li Hao: "That's right. Threatening with guns and hacking are not allowed in the team."

Suiyi, looking adorable, said, "I'm just handling this as a special case!"

Chenchen looked up at everyone with an innocent expression, her fair face full of speechlessness. She sighed, looking utterly hopeless: "Just watch, the boss will approve everyone's reprimands."

Sure enough, ten minutes later, Leng Tianyi, with a stern face as if someone owed him millions, walked to the table, looked at the group with an arrogant air, and spoke in a cold voice.

"Summarize what each of you did in this case and the problems that arose. You have one minute."

After he finished speaking, there was an unusual silence. Leng Tianyi frowned unhappily and looked up at the group of people, only to find them all staring at him with blank expressions.

"Didn't you hear me clearly, or did I not explain myself? Bai Youyou, you tell me." The tone was calm, but like his surname, it was as cold as thousand-year-old ice. Sui Yi, whose name was called, shuddered and stood up abruptly. This startled everyone around her. Sui Yi looked at them, and whoever her gaze met lowered their heads like a quail, refusing to accept her plea for help.
