Chapter Thirty-One: The Little Beggar's Rise to Become a Tycoon (5)

While Suiyi was explaining to a few young beggars how to eat pine nuts, Lao Ba, who had gone up the mountain to gather herbs, returned. As soon as he entered the dilapidated temple, he saw the group sitting together, chatting and laughing as they ate.

"Old Eight is back? Good haul today, time for a treat." The eldest brother saw Old Eight, stood up and took the medicine and game from his hands. Old Eight, however, walked towards Sui Yi, sat down beside her, turned to look at her, and seeing that she looked healthy, he felt relieved.

As soon as Lao Ba sat down, Lao Liu grabbed a handful of pine nuts and put them in his hand. "Lao Ba, eat up. Jiu Mei discovered these, they're delicious." Lao Ba observed how they ate them and copied them. When he tasted them, he found a natural pine flavor. But he was very puzzled. When did Jiu Mei become so good at this? It seemed he would have to find some time to ask the others.

"Second brother, go kill the pheasant you hunted today and make some soup for Ninth Sister to nourish her," said Eighth brother.

"Alright." After saying that, he picked up the pheasant that was flapping on the ground and walked towards the river.

"Ninth Sister, how are you feeling now? If you're not feeling well, go and rest more. Your brothers will take care of the rest."

"Brother Ba, I'm fine. Is there anything I can help you with?" Sui Yi knew that although the group called the oldest person "boss," the one who actually held a leadership position was Brother Ba. Moreover, in such a short time, Brother Ba seemed to be more than he appeared.

“Then Ninth Sister, come with me. I taught you how to write your name a few days ago. Let me test you to see if you remember it.” After saying that, she picked up two tree branches from the ground and stood on the ground in the courtyard of the dilapidated temple.

Sui Yi knew what he wanted to do; it was nothing more than a test. She took the branch from Lao Ba and wrote the words "Begging for Ninth Sister" on the ground. Lao Ba's pupils dilated when he saw the way Sui Yi held the branch and wrote the words. He knew that Ninth Sister was no longer the same person she used to be.

"Who are you? Why are you inhabiting my Ninth Sister's body? Where did she go?" the Eighth Brother asked urgently in a low voice.

"Please accept my condolences. The real Qi Jiu died the moment she fell into the pond, and I only entered her body by chance, but I found that I could not leave her body."

"Alright, I don't care who you are or what your purpose is. I only have one request: to be a good Ninth Sister."

“Of course, now that I’m inside her body, I will live well in her place, care about what she cares about, and love what she loves,” Sui Yi said, looking into his eyes.

"You'd better remember what you just said, or I will never let you off the hook," Lao Ba threatened.

"I never expected you to be so remarkable, Brother Ba. We're both beggars, yet you can read and recognize herbs," Sui Yi said curiously.

"It's best not to inquire about things you shouldn't know." With that, he left. Sui Yi watched his retreating figure and stuck out her tongue. She hadn't expected that the Eighth Prince was so unassuming, and his relationship with the original owner of the body wasn't necessarily that close. Sui Yi shrugged and followed him into the temple.

More than an hour later, Suiyi returned with a relatively intact bowl filled with soup and plenty of meat. Looking at the meager portions of meat in her brothers' bowls, she felt a surge of emotion. "Brothers," she said, "I've only just recovered from a serious illness and shouldn't be indulging in meat. Please share this meat with me. Eighth Brother, you've worked so hard; please give him some." With that, Suiyi distributed all the meat in her bowl to her brothers. They were so moved they almost cried, while the eighth brother remained silent.
