Chapter 117 Three's Company (The End)

Mrs. Lu took out a lighter: "I've already poured oil here. Xinwan, you can go out now. Tonight, Mom will clear all obstacles for you. From now on, you'll have to walk your own path."

While struggling to break free of the ropes, Mr. Lu shouted urgently, "Xinwan, don't listen to her nonsense, save me! I'm your father!"

Seeing that Mrs. Lu was clearly determined to take both herself and Mr. Lu down with her, Luo Yujia struggled to break free and tried to lift her body to see if she could walk while holding onto the chair.

But she soon discovered that the chair and the marble dining table legs were tied together and couldn't be lifted at all. After trying several times, she finally looked at Lu Xinwan for help.

If Lu Xinwan could just pick up the knife on the dining table and cut the rope connecting the chair leg and the table leg, she and Mr. Lu could at least run out of this "dangerous house" while holding the chair up.

But Lu Xinwan watched them back away.

Mr. Lu could hardly believe it. Lu Xinwan clearly had a chance to save him, but because of Mrs. Lu's words...

He could only continue struggling and shouting, "Xinwan, I really don't have a son, believe me, you're my only flesh and blood, please save me! Save me!"

"No! I don't believe it!" Lu Xinwan said, then turned and ran outside.

She had just run out of the villa when flames suddenly shot up behind her.

She turned to look at the engulfed Lu family villa, when suddenly she heard police sirens blaring, growing louder and louder. In the blink of an eye, police cars appeared in her sight and stopped in front of the villa. She was stunned again: Why were the police here? And so quickly?

The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire, discovering three bodies. The Lu family elders rushed back upon hearing of the fire at the villa, only to find Lu Xinwan in a state of panic, being taken into police custody.

According to the police, the villa was likely set on fire by Lu Xinwan, and there were three people inside who were tied up and were probably covered in oil before the fire started...

Lu Xinwan was completely bewildered: Mrs. Lu wasn't tied up, and there was no oil poured on her body, so how could this be?

The two elders of the Lu family looked at Lu Xinwan in disbelief.

Lu Xinwan said urgently, "No, it wasn't me, it was my mom, it was my mom who kidnapped Dad and Luo Yujia..."

The police, however, said, "When the firefighters rushed in, they clearly found three people tied to three chairs in front of the dining table. Several firefighters in charge of the rescue saw it."

Fingerprints were found on the rope, the not-yet-completely-burned lighter, and other items. The police said that once the fingerprint analysis results were available, the truth would be revealed. However, they still took Lu Xinwan away; she was too much of a suspect.

The Lu family elders were devastated. Their son had died in the fire, and their only granddaughter was the murderer—how could they possibly bear this?

The original owner was sent to the trending topics and became the target of trolls, mainly due to Luo Yujia's help, and secondly due to Mr. Lu's initial post that dragged the original owner down with him. Therefore, the two of them were the ones the original owner hated the most.

However, the two elders of the Lu family were not involved in this matter. They were not within the scope of the original owner's hatred. Since they escaped this calamity because they disliked Luo Yujia, Chu Nian had no need to hold a grudge against them.

To be honest, Chu Nian never expected Mrs. Lu to orchestrate such a grand spectacle. The Lu family was actually on the verge of collapse, so the fire was irrelevant.

Mrs. Lu's last move was truly brilliant; Lu Xinwan is now in a situation she can't clear her name even if she falls into the Yellow River. Even Chu Nian, who always boasts of being a legend, has begun to admire Mrs. Lu.

The fingerprint identification results came out quickly. As Chu Nian expected, although parts of the rope, chair, lighter, oil can, etc., had been burned, many of Lu Xinwan's fingerprints remained on the remaining parts.

Lu Xinwan was sentenced to death for arson and murder. No matter how shocked she was when she learned of the fingerprint test results, and no matter how much she protested her innocence and desperately tried to tell the police that Mrs. Lu had started the fire, no one believed her.

Because the physical evidence found did not contain Mrs. Lu's fingerprints, only Lu Xinwan's fingerprints.

Lu Xinwan finally realized she had been tricked by Mrs. Lu just before her execution. Mrs. Lu not only wanted her dead, but also wanted her to die with a guilty conscience, unable to recover her life.

Not long after Lu Xinwan was executed, the original owner's brothers, who were lazy and looked down upon by the villagers because their parents sold their daughter and went to jail, could not survive in the village and came to S City with their families.

They probably wanted to seek refuge with Chu Nian, but Chu Nian was indifferent to them. Moreover, the original owner's eventual suicide was also related to the exclusion by these brothers. Chu Nian simply chose to flee far away, renting a villa in a tourist resort for a proper vacation.

As for the Chen brothers, they had only been in S City for a short time when the second brother heard some news.

The story about their parents selling their younger sister was spread by a troll on a certain website, and the fact that the Chen family could no longer stay in the village was also related to these trolls spreading rumors all day long.

So, the brothers discussed it and realized that if they couldn't find Chu Nian and the others and couldn't get any money, how would they live in S City? They might as well extort some money from these trolls to get by and at least wait until they found Chu Nian.

But these trolls must have some connections to dare to spew nonsense. They're either confident that the people they're attacking can't find them, or they're confident that they can ensure their own safety if the people they're attacking come after them.

The three brothers found the first two trolls, which was fine; they were just keyboard warriors with impressive skills, able to bypass firewalls and other security measures that most people couldn't, which is why they dared to criticize. They even took jobs criticizing, making money from it. Luo Yujia had once paid them to criticize Chen Nian until she had nowhere to run.

However, while Luo Yujia gave them money, someone else gave them even more, instructing them to attack the rest of the Chen family, avoiding Chen Nian. So, they initially attacked Chen Nian, but later shifted their focus to the Chen family members.

They were badly beaten by the three brothers, so they had no choice but to obediently give them a large sum of money to buy peace: this made several of their business deals go to waste.

But the third troll, who had some triad connections, was caught off guard when the three men approached him and nearly got beaten to death. He quickly pulled out a large sum of money, which made the three men leave. They said they would come back for him…

But before the three Chen brothers could look for him again, he led his men to find them.

The three brothers were beaten so badly they couldn't get up and begged for mercy before the group finally left, satisfied. Before leaving, they took all the money the three brothers had.

The three Chen brothers were originally cowards who preyed on the weak and dared not call the police.

But the police quickly found these trolls. They were prosecuted for their indiscriminate spiel. The one who sued them was Chen Nian.

Chu Nian was on vacation at the beach when the trial began, so she didn't attend. However, she had hired a lawyer to represent her in the case well in advance. Trolls who are paid to spew insults are completely different from those who simply attack someone out of righteous indignation.
