She didn't notice at all that the child from before, clutching the compressed biscuits and water, had a slightly darkened look in his eyes.
"Child, have you gotten your food?"
"I'm almost there."
The child said coldly, "It's a pity that she's such a heartless older sister; she has no intention of taking us with her."
"Don't say that. They're already a very kind person to give us so much food!"
The child's mother was quite grateful. "We've met many people along the way, but not a single one of them was willing to share food or water with us."
“Some of them even hit us? Compared to them, this girl is already quite good,” the child’s mother comforted him. “Child, you can’t just think about how bad this girl is, how she’s unwilling to share more food with us. You should think about her good points; at least she shared some with us.”
"I understand, Mom. I'm just feeling a little down."
Before the apocalypse came, so many people fawned over their family, but once the apocalypse arrived, all of them disappeared completely.
Along the way, he took his mother to visit many of his father's friends' homes, but they were all turned away.
He could understand why these people didn't want to take him in; food was scarce, and neither he nor his mother had any special abilities, so they were of little use.
What he couldn't understand was why those who called him their nephew or niece would choose to kick him when he was down.
Some even wanted to lock them up.
The boy led his mother toward the town.
They only have this much, so they must use it sparingly and find their brother as soon as possible.
