"None of these matchmakers are reliable," Ning Hao said dejectedly.
Where did all these unsuitable men come from? His son is getting old, and he was originally thinking of finding him a wife. But matchmakers are unreliable, and he's not sure what to do with them.
"These matchmakers are all the same; they say one thing to one person and another to another. How can they be trusted?"
He has experienced so many worlds, yet it seems he has never actually used a matchmaker.
"I don't know who did it. Why are all these matchmakers suddenly coming to our house?"
Although matchmakers usually come to their door, there have never been so many. It's likely that someone has offered them some kind of benefit, and these matchmakers are deliberately trying to annoy them.
"I think so too. Look at the beauties in their paintings, what kind of girls are they?"
Not only are they ugly, but they're all also dishonest.
He had seen the women he mentioned earlier taking other men out on the street more than once.
There was even a widow among them.
Of course, he wasn't discriminating against widows; his father was a widower. Widows and widowers are not inherently superior to each other. However, this widow secretly ran a clandestine business.
It's really going too far for these people to want to introduce a woman like that to her father.
To put it bluntly, his father is only thirty-eight years old this year. He is handsome and wealthy. If he wanted, marrying a beautiful young woman wouldn't be a problem for him.
Just as the two were feeling frustrated, someone else came to their door.
This was an official matchmaker, and she had a dignified and elegant appearance, exuding a unique aura that set her apart from other matchmakers.
"Is Master Ning overjoyed?"
As soon as the matchmaker saw Ning Hao, she bowed respectfully.
Ning Hao returned the greeting.
Seeing how polite Ning Hao was, the matchmaker's smile deepened.
"What's there to be happy about?"
“It is naturally a joyous occasion, a great joyous occasion, for me, Matchmaker Yang, to come to your door.”
"I will not marry."
Ning Hong refused decisively.
“I won’t marry either,” Ning Hao added.
As soon as the two men opened their mouths, Yang the matchmaker's smile froze on her face.
"You two are really joking. Men should marry when they come of age, and women should marry when they come of age. How can you not get a wife?"
"I don't want to get married for the time being, and as for my son, I can't control him." Ning Hao shrugged helplessly.
"This...this was originally meant for Master Ning, wasn't it? Perhaps Master Ning could listen to me before making any decisions?" Seeing that Ning Hao didn't object, Matchmaker Yang hurriedly added, "I wonder if Master Ning knows Grand Tutor Liu?"
"Matchmaker Yang, please don't be angry if I tell you the truth."
"Please speak."
"Isn't your question obvious? In this day and age, who doesn't know Grand Tutor Liu?"
"Hehe, it's good that you know him." Matchmaker Yang's smile was a little awkward. "Since Master Ning knows Grand Tutor Liu, that's even better. This great joy comes from Grand Tutor Liu's family."
Neither the Ning father nor his son spoke.
Seeing the two men's cold expressions, Yang, the matchmaker, smiled even more faintly and could only grit her teeth and continue, "Grand Tutor Liu has a younger sister who is two years older than Master Ning. She married at sixteen and gave birth to a daughter at eighteen. However, her husband was unlucky; not long after their daughter was born, he went out drinking and accidentally fell into a lotus pond and died. After her husband's death, she took her daughter back to the Grand Tutor's mansion. Grand Tutor Liu only has this one sister, so naturally he dotes on her. I've heard that this Grand Tutor Liu sister has a good relationship with that person in the palace."
"So what?"
"Well, now that Grand Tutor Liu's nephew is getting old, a while ago, Grand Tutor Liu found him a marriage partner, the eldest daughter of the Imperial Censor. But the eldest daughter dislikes her widowed mother and is unwilling to support her. Grand Tutor Liu originally wanted to cancel the marriage, but he couldn't resist his nephew's affection for her and even suggested that his mother remarry."
The most terrifying thing is that Lady Liu agreed.
It turns out that Lady Liu had met Ning Hao once before and had a good impression of him.
She especially admired Ning Hao for remaining celibate for his deceased wife for many years. These days, people often demand that widows remain chaste for their deceased husbands, but never expect men to do the same. Generally speaking, being able to remain celibate for a year or two is already considered touching.
From all perspectives, Ning Hao was a perfect match. Liu shyly voiced her thoughts, only to find that her brother's expression was quite strange.
"Does my brother not want me to marry him? Or is there some kind of physical defect in him?"
Lady Liu looked at Grand Tutor Liu with a hint of doubt.
"Sister, perhaps we should choose someone else," said Grand Tutor Liu awkwardly.
Why?
"What do you think of the bird's nest you've been eating these past few days, little sister?" Grand Tutor Liu suddenly changed the subject.
"It is of the highest quality."
Although the Liu family had a rich heritage and a distinguished reputation, in truth, their wealth was not as great as that of the Ning family, a royal merchant family.
This father and son are practically reincarnations of the God of Wealth. Whatever business they set their sights on, they always manage to make a fortune, bringing in huge sums of money.
"Why did you suddenly bring up bird's nest, brother? But my sister-in-law—" doesn't want her to stay here.
Liu felt uneasy. She had a dowry to rely on, and to be honest, she didn't lack these bird's nests. Back then, it was her sister-in-law who took her hand and invited her to live at home. For this, she even handed over half of her dowry.
She just didn't want to hear people say that she and her son were freeloaders.
Of course, her dowry also included many shops and estates.
Every month, her estate would send over a lot of things.
