Back in the north, Leng Yue was in much better condition than before. However, Qian Chen's situation was not good. He rushed over to report on the base's affairs, but there were still no results.
Contrary to their expectations, the president didn't seem to take it seriously. Qian Chen and Leng Yue waited at the presidential palace for several days, but seeing no results, they politely took their leave.
Despite the president's repeated attempts to persuade her to stay, Qianchen declined his offer.
As they left the city, Leng Yue suggested visiting Aunt Qian and the others in Tianjin, so Qian Chen took her there. When the caravan reached the city gate, Qian Chen kept looking out the window. Curious, Leng Yue followed his gaze and saw a familiar face.
"Do you know that person?" Leng Yue saw Qian Chen staring at Bai Yanlang and assumed that he knew him too.
Qian Chen nodded. "We met at the banquet before; she's the Vice President's daughter. But what's she doing here? And who's that man?"
"Ge Xinyue? I didn't notice her just now." Leng Yue couldn't help but look again. "It really is her! How come she's with Bai Yanlang?"
"Who is Bai Yanlang? That guy? How do you know him?" Qian Chen asked in rapid succession, clearly jealous.
"It's not me, it's the original owner." Leng Yue explained, and wanted to continue, but seeing Yang Liu's curious ears, she wrote on Qian Chen's palm.
Qianchen's brows furrowed more and more deeply, and finally he said, "My Yueyue is still the smartest!"
"Of course! Look how handsome my husband is!" Leng Yue said this with great pride.
Yang Liu was incredibly curious. She had clearly sensed that the young marshal and his wife were about to get angry, so why did they suddenly become so cheerful? What was going on with this couple?
"However, should we tell the Vice President's family about this?" Leng Yue didn't know how Bai Yanlang and Ge Xinyue knew each other, but she knew that Bai Yanlang was definitely lying to her.
Qianchen didn't really want to get involved, but it was an opportunity to build connections. So he wrote a letter and secretly sent it to the Vice President.
"That's all we can do. I can't control what they do or what choices they make." After handing over the letter, Qianchen decided not to pay any more attention to it.
"What did you write?" Leng Yue asked curiously.
"It's a secret." Qian Chen had no intention of telling her.
Leng Yue didn't dwell on it. "I could guess even if you didn't tell me. It's just the same old stuff, what's so new about it?"
"Yes, yes, you're smart." Qianchen pinched Lengyue's nose. "Who can be smarter than my wife!"
"Get lost, stop flattering me." Leng Yue slapped Qian Chen's hand away and said irritably.
The two joked and laughed, and didn't feel tired at all. Later, Leng Yue bought many gifts, intending to take them to Aunt Qian and the others.
When Leng Yue and the others arrived, Aunt Qian was having lunch. Suddenly, they saw a row of cars stop at the entrance of the alley, and dozens of people got out, each holding a Q. They were all terrified.
Curious, people gathered around and found everyone discussing what they were doing, or whether they were there to catch some bad guys. In the end, no one could come to a conclusion.
Just as everyone was wondering what was going on, the door of the middle car opened, and a beautiful young woman stepped out. Beside her was a tall, handsome man with sharp eyes.
Leng Yue watched as everyone laughed, then went straight to Aunt Qian and asked, "Aunt Qian, don't you recognize me?"
Aunt Qian looked at Leng Yue, then at Qian Chen. It took her a while to remember, "It's you, that girl!"
Leng Yue nodded. "It's me, it's me. I've come to see you."
Aunt Qian was so excited that she pulled the people next to her to look at Leng Yue, "Aunt Li, look, this is that little girl, come and see."
As soon as Aunt Qian spoke, a group of older women followed her out. They tentatively surrounded Leng Yue, looking her over from left to right, and finally nodded in agreement, "Yes, yes, yes, it's that little girl."
"Why are you here? This is..." Aunt Qian looked at Leng Yue, wanting to take her hand but hesitant.
Leng Yue grabbed Aunt Qian's hand. "This is my husband, Qian Chen. We just happened to be passing by here and thought we'd come and see you and all the other ladies."
When Aunt Qian saw that Leng Yue was still the same as before, she was overjoyed. "Come on in, come on in and sit down. Don't just stand here."
Leng Yue smiled at Qian Chen, who nodded and followed behind her without saying a word. Turning to Yang Liu, she beckoned, and Yang Liu, understanding, led the group, carrying gifts, towards Aunt Qian's house.
When Leng Yue arrived at Aunt Qian's house, she had all the gifts placed down. "Aunties, this is a small token of my appreciation. You didn't accept it before, but you must accept it this time."
Aunt Qian smiled and said, "Alright, I'll take them all!"
A group of people gathered around Leng Yue, chatting about everyday things. They chimed in and out, making Aunt Qian's courtyard quite lively.
"We almost didn't recognize you, you look so beautiful now." Aunt Li looked at Leng Yue's exquisite cheongsam with envy in her eyes.
"What do you know? The young lady is just happy because she married the right person. Look at the joy on her face; you can feel it even from a distance." Aunt Qian didn't think Leng Yue's change was in her clothes; she thought it was in her demeanor.
"That's right, the young girl has become a wealthy lady. If we walked face to face on the street, I wouldn't recognize her!" The old lady behind them joked, and everyone burst into laughter.
Later, when Leng Yue was about to leave, Aunt Qian held her hand and whispered something to her for a while. She mainly talked about Bai Yanlang's faults and told Leng Yue to cherish the man she had now.
Leng Yue smiled and nodded, agreeing to everything. When they got into the car and left, Aunt Qian and the other aunties saw them off for a long time, while Leng Yue kept waving to them from the car.
Leng Yue knew that she would probably never see him again in this lifetime.
"What were you whispering about?" Qianchen asked with a smile.
"It's a secret," Leng Yue replied in kind.
Qianchen shook his head with amusement, not caring at all. "I was just asking, it's not necessarily because I really want to know."
Leng Yue gave a soft snort and turned to look out the window. Tianjin was a port city, and the streets were bustling. Last time she came, Leng Yue hadn't really had a chance to see it properly. This time, revisiting the place, she finally witnessed its prosperity firsthand.
Aunt Qian wasn't saying that Leng Yue didn't want to talk to Qian Chen, but rather that it was unnecessary. Someone like Bai Yanlang wasn't worth their gossip. It was pointless and would lower their standards.
As for Bai Yanlang's fate, Leng Yue knew without even thinking that he would meet a tragic end. Unable to fool young girls in Tianjin, he actually went to the Vice President's house to swindle his daughter. Ha, did he really think these people were fools?
Qianchen sent a letter to the Vice President's family, assuring them that they would not allow a white-collar worker to roam freely under their noses.
Leng Yue also knew that the white-collar gangs were rampant in this era, committing all sorts of heinous acts. Therefore, regardless of whether Ge Xinyue was deceived or harmed, Bai Yanlang could not possibly return to Heyuan alive.
The harbor was filled with towering masts, and many ships were ready to set sail at any moment. Just like her and Qianchen's future, it was full of hope.
Her fingers were pinched, Leng Yue turned around, and smiled at Qian Chen.
